I am just curious if there has been any news about getting a playable demo before the official game is released?

Yeah, it'd be nice to be able to benchmark somehow. My machine was a hotshot two and a half years ago when it was new but Inquisition looks like quite a big technological leap forward.

Demos are also only a slice of a game and first impressions are often negative, ie first impression of dragon gameplay at E3 and impressions being somewhat more positive after the longer gameplay was shown the day after.

Demos for RPGs are usually pretty bad idea, as they cannot show any advanced stages (spoilers), and it often takes some time to get the story rolling.

I thought the demo for DA2 was great. I must have played that thing like half a dozen times.

I do agree with you on some level, and of course demos do give us a taste for the mechanics of a game, but I think due to the narrow scope or lack of playable content it might skewer expectations.
And wasn't there a situations where some people managed to gleam spoilers and such from cracking the game files?

look. i need to know exact mechanics of this game, which includes combat, movement, character development and even this dialogue wheel.
demo of DA2 forced me to cancel preoder, and eventually i bought this game for 6$.
demo of ME3 on the other hand showed me what i wanted to see and as result i bought this game full price and all dlcs avaliable.
on a demo stage i care less for plot, characters, romances and all this crap. i want to know exactly what i am buying in it's core.
no demo, no purchase. i can't trust both developer and his publisher.

Devs lately don't bother with playable demos as much as they used to. I wouldn't hold my breath on a demo for this game, but I also wouldn't rule it out, either.

That's why they won't do a demo. DA2 is also the reason they need to do a demo and a good one.

There might be technical challenges in making a demo from a game that has one of those Skyrim sized worlds. The developers might not have a digital cookie cutter to cut out a segment of the game just for a demo and I don't think anyone wants to download a 15 GB demo.
With that said, a fun demo could convince people who aren't pre-ordering because they felt burned by DA2.

you can't make a good demo if the game itself is decent at very, very best.

DA:I is not open world. You can see that from the demo's. It's just larger areas than the other games.

Brutal Legend had an awesome demo. The game itself ended up being quite disappointing though (IMO) ![]()

i just have no idea how such a horrible product as Brutal Legend could actually have an awesome demo. are you from console guys? if you are - that explains it.

When the game is release just head over to Twitch. There will be plenty of people playing the game over there. It is the best place for you to decide whether you should get the game or not. You will see the game being played and even ask a caster how certain things feel.
I think with twitch becoming more prominent and so many gaming companies approving of it. The need for demos is getting really pointless to be quite honest. All you gotta do go over there and you will likely find someone streaming a game. Then you can review the game for yourself without relying on these big sites, trolls or agenda driven people positive or negative trying to sway you one way or another.

Yea, it was great up until it morphed into an awkward RTS.

As I understand it, demos are usually up to the publisher. They can pick and choose which games to release demos for, and what kind of demo that is (multiplayer beta, timed demo, platform-exclusive demo, etc.)
I don't really see EA doing that with DA:I. Would be neat, but it's not too likely.

Playable demos usually decrease sales. A game has to be perfect for a demo to increase sales and this hardly ever happens due to expectations of today's gamers. There is also good chance a demo gives gamers the feeling they have already sated their hunger for a game, so no need any longer to buy it.
Demos are also only a slice of a game and first impressions are often negative, ie first impression of dragon gameplay at E3 and impressions being somewhat more positive after the longer gameplay was shown the day after.
Good point.

I've not visited the Twitch site before, thank you for mentioning.

You won't get a demo. They have already said no.
This game owned all at E3. Nailed awards. Nailed reviews. It's already quite clear it's going to sell better than any other dragon age game so far
