I wouldn't mind just a CC demo so I can spend hours molding my Inquisitor and anguish over how I can't play her for another 4 months.

Did Dragon Age:Origins have a CC demo on consoles?

demo of DA2 forced me to cancel preoder, and eventually i bought this game for 6$.
Same thing for me. Except that in my case I found out that DA2 was a lot better game than the demo led me to believe it was -- the Lothering level is probably the ugliest one in the game. So making a DA2 demo lost Bio at least $14 from me, and maybe more, depending on how close to full price I would have bought the game.

Demos are pretty much guaranteed to not help with sales so while I would like one, I can't begrudge BioWare/EA for not putting one out. Though I do think they should do one to help further win over fans who are still wary of another DA2, but I won't be holding my breath on that one any time soon.
I will be quite disappointed if they don't release a Character Creator. While I only have anecdotal evidence to support my beliefs I can't remember a game that put out a CC that didn't help garner some hype for the title. If the new CC is as good as they say it is, and we know the game already looks really good, I can't imagine releasing something like that wouldn't help the game out. I'm pretty sure it worked out great for Saints Row 3 and 4, though they're not exactly like DA, but still BioWare would know better than anyone since they did release a standalone CC for Origins.
Release something like that where we can create our character, choose our class and then choose from a basic set of clothing/armor and have them pose in a couple set backdrops and you'll have a lot of free promotions circulating all over the internet for days or weeks to come before the game releases. Win win.

Ok, not in Alpha but please in beta! Like Septmeber 7th drop the demo and let us play for like an hour in half. It let's the doubters/haters rethink their opinion of the game and buy it. It also allows newcomers to test it out. And it of course gives us core fans something to do while the real wait begins. Also, if not, a CC standalone will do just fine.

Journalists touting a E3 demo is chaulked up to PR bs to most mainstream people.

When was the last time a AAA game had a demo before the release of the game? Some put one out afterwards but I can't think of any big game that I have played in the last couple of years that has had a pre-release / release day demo. While I'm sure that there have been some, it has unfortunately become a rarity. It is why i try to get into as many betas as i can.

DA2,ME2,ME3. If there is no demo and in light of the state of DA2, people are going to wonder.

ME3 had an amazing demo. It's what made me preorder a xbox 360 copy in addition to my pc copy. That being sad this is the first time in years bio hasn't done a demo. All their games from the EA buyout have had one in some form. Really given peoples anger about da2 and me3s ending, no demo of some sort is shooting themselves in the foot.

This can't be overstated. The forums will always give a very skewed picture.

Hope they at least release a character creator before release. That wouldn't be too much work, would it?

Same here, alas. Industrywide, demos are dying out, but this is the first time BioWare joins this trend. It doesn't have to mean anything, but it does switch 'suspicion mode' on. ![]()
Twitch is something of an alternative, but personally there's nothing preferable to hands-on experience.
Having said that, demos can have a significant 'negative' impact. The ME3 and DA2 demos made me decide not to buy them, at least not straight away (I bought DA2 in the bargain bin later, still 10 euros too much
). On the other hand, I did buy Amalur because of the demo.
It's maybe as much a case of demo content matching gamer positive and negative expectations as the actual quality of the game and the demo itself.

In this case not having a demo is going to hurt sales. There is many people out there who have fully given up on bioware. No demo is just going to make these people think bioware has no faith in their product and are afraid to show it to actual players.
Journalists touting a E3 demo is chalked up to PR bs to most mainstream people.
Not having a demo doesn't hurt sales, because most people, A. already know if they will buy a game at launch, they care enough to have researcher it on their own, B. already wait for independent reviews and word of mouth on all games, or C. by games when they see them in store and are intrigued by the cover and back slash description or recognize the name.
And "many," people haven't got a clue who Bioware is let alone have, "Given up on them." A chunk of people might recognize the EA as a game company on the box for DA:I, but they wouldn't know Bioware from Obsidian or Bethesda. Heck, a lot of people who don't research games before they buy them (like a lot of parents and grandparents who are a big buying block, which is why crappy license games still sale copies, "A Superman game, my son loves Superman.") might see the box art and hear the word Dragon and assume DA:I is just the part two of that other dragon game... what's it called, Skyrim?
The majority of people who would try the demo are people who are going to buy, or are least thinking about buying, the game anyway. So a demo either confirms them as buying because it is what they expected, makes them think twice and hold off because it wasn't as good as they hoped, or makes them give up on the game because for whatever reason the demo is lame. Anyone who has given up on Bioware isn't even likely to try the demo - because they'll assume the demo is just marketing BS (Edit: the same way they see E3, and most people don't even know what E3 is), the best part of the game and the rest of the game probably blows; so they'll only be swayed by word of mouth. That is friends and family who've played the game and tell them it is worth the buy.
Just watch the video in my last post, there is proof, a demo almost never increases sales and more often then not, hurts sales even on strong games. DA:I isn't a special game snowflake that is different from every other game in what a demo would do for it just because you're a fan and want a demo.

How would a demo of a game with such big areas work? Would it be possible to just cut one explorable area out?
