12 are featured in the picture above yet only 9 are companions? Correct me if I am wrong but this is what I had heard and am just checking my facts here. Leliana is supposed to be your spymaster and I doubt Scribbles will have a combat role however I am just wondering where Cullen comes into play? Cullen not a companion after all or a secret 10th? Of course this is assuming the guy currently assumed to be Cole is going to be your 3rd rogue making for an even 3/3/3 split is class among available companions.

Cullen takes care of the military as far as I know.

And Scribbles the politics + trade.

9 companions and 3 advisors

I would like to note that the dev called them specialists and not advisors.

Perhaps there are 10 companions, and only 9 are known because the last is important to the plot and comes later (like Loghain). Maybe, when the 9 are present a spark will cause the 10th companion to be revealed.

It's really disappointing to think that Cullen's sick ass armor isn't for a character we have as a companion.

While we'll have 3 specialists, (Cullen, Leliana and Scribe Girl), I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't become temporary companions at some point or at least come out in the field with us.

In the E3 gameplay demo it showed Inquisitor out & about with Leliana (presumably rescuing her), we don't know at what point in the story this is so it could be the first time the Inquisitor meets her or she gets kidnapped at a later date.

We also saw Leliana at camp in one of the trailers (don't remember which one, I'm afraid.) I guess it's possible that this is right after we rescue her, but the specialists/advisors might also be able to come out into the open world with us to some extent even if they don't go with us into combat.

Same with Morrigan. In one of the E3 trailers she was revealed travelling with the Inquisitor but they have said she is NOT a companion but a temporary squad mate. I bet that's what's up with the specialists. They'll be in our party when we first find them but when we get the to a Keep they'll leave and only appear for certain missions and such.

Where did a dev say that Morrigan was a temporary party member? Seeing someone in a trailer beside the Inquisitor doesn't make someone a party member.

And Leliana do not join the party once in the E3 demo, she is simply around at a critical point of a quest because she was sent there earlier.

They described them as both specialists and advisors, so either works.

So Cullen is an advisor on military stuff on behalf of the Templars? Is Leliana an advisor for the Chantry, or just handling spies and agents for the Inquisition? "Scribbles" the scribe girl represents who or what political affiliation exactly; has there been and indication?

I think it's entirely possible that Cullen, Leliana, and Scribbles will go on quests with you, but I think they won't be controllable like the nine companions will be.

On the topic of the nine companions, I got some of the races and genders wrong, but I just wanna say... Called it!   :D

I'm guessing they each have at least one questline  (that's probably the one where you recruit them) where you have to drag 'em along.

Cullen and Leliana pretty much drop their old ties and work for the Inquisition.

As the trailer line says, "Whatever we were before, we are now the Inquisition."

That was eerily accurate.
