No, purely because being slow is really really terrible. In a shooter unless you're a super tank of some sort or you camp 100% of the time, slow means death. To note, slow here means in relativity to the others. If everyone moves like a juggernaut, then no one is slow and long range combat or camping in small areas will predominate. if every one moves like a drell, then no one is fast and close range combat will predominate (mainly due to aiming issues with a high speed target)

Maybe, but there should be a gear to boost speed too, giving people more choice.

I don't think folks should be slowed unless it's a really heavy weapon.. like negative recharge speed heavy.

The real issue is the +200% recharge speed weapons being some of the best in the game.. namely Arc Pistol, Talon and Hurricane. The heavier weapons are really well balanced overall. I don't think anyone thinks the Javelin, Typhoon, Widows, Claymore, etc. have balancing issues.. and really, the player shouldn't be punished any further with a movement speed penalty for using them. They're not the balance issue.. the lightweight end of the spectrum is where the retardedly OP weapons are.

No thanks. The game is already slow enough (unless you use a Drell or AM3).

Only heavy weapons, like the mortar and the AA gun. Artillery and the comm facility to call in aerial bombardment, too. Everything that needs to be deployed before firing. They sell those pets that carry equipment, though, but you still need to deploy the stuff to make it work.

No, because in the future everybody and his grandma' would be wearing a full suit of power armour, so weight really isn't going to be an issue.

Of course, that power armour would also have built in night vision, geth scanner, tactical scanner, hawk missile launcher, automatic medigel applicator, and electric stun for any enemy who tries to sneak up on you. They might even have a radio link that allows you to communicate with your squad and know their status in more detail than just up or down. Not to mention that guns will have progressed a little past th 20th century by then.

Putting all this stuff in would have made the game more believable and complicated and less fun to play, probably.

Yes we should all move like overencumbered characters from a Bethesda game, what fun we could have!

YES, I love the challenge of being slow, but being a badass at the same time.I think the Javelin, Typhoon, Widow, and Black Widow should have weight penalties too.

Spitfire all things. It's even more fun when you pick up a pizza. You move like a slug.

I think the whole weapon weight and how it affects cooldown and speed was just a ripoff of other games.

In a way it makes sense, *cough* COD where you cannot just go grab 10,000 rounds of ammo and 5 crates full of guns and lumber off.  Bioware tried to make it affect cooldown too - for some strange and as of yet unknown reason.  The fact that my arms and legs have extra weight to bear slows down my brain?  Pitiful logic.

In ME1 you could carry a truckload of stuffs.  In ME2, Shepard could carry a heck of a lot of firepower.  in ME3, they went backwards, stole a mechanic from another game, and rolled it out.  Meanwhile, the fans are trying to figure out how this all works, cause to be honest its perplexing.  Even the title of the game is the principle by which massive things can be made lighter by applying direct current to an eezo core and vice versa.

The very principle and foundation of the game was betrayed by the people that made it.  Sadly, this happened in more ways than one in this game.

Yes, but weapons platform kits should have a way of off-setting this.

No. Every ME character save for vorcha carries some armor. It is safe to assume that this armor somehow enhances character's strength, and besides MASS EFFECT FIELDS.

Weight is not a problem in ME setting, nor should it be

Destiny is friggin awesome. Would have been so great to do that Strike Mission with a Vanguard. Wait, what was the question?

I hope they give enemies full slow cryo blast in the next ME to really screw with our movement speed.

You think it would be bad if it were spammed by enemies, just imagine how outraged BSN if they were spammed in PvP.

So do combat classes get more weight capacity?

Yes, but weapons platform kits should have a way of off-setting this.

Did the OP ever post in this thread again with some more details on the re-imagined mechanics?
