PC gameplay with a controller?

I am wondering if DA:I will support the use of a controller if someone opts to use one?

I understand that the combat system will be both like DA:O and DA2, depending on preference. That's a great idea, but I would also like to be able to use a controller. I don't like the feel of the game with a mouse and keyboard (personal preference, I'm not knocking it!).

Just curious, thank you.

I'm fairly certain they've stated there will be controller support for the PC version.

Every gameplay demo you've seen has been on a PC with a controller.

Yes, this is confirmed as of E3.

Indeed. The UI even changes based on your input device. It remains to be seen whether we can override this and play with a controller inside the KBM UI.

Unlikely at this point.

The first time I played a shooter, I had trouble wrapping my head around the traditional control scheme, so I ended playing with a combination of mouse and flightstick (with 8 direction hat switch and everything), so I'm partial to non-traditional inputs.

Luckily, you can usually map controller inputs to keys at the OS level, so I would still expect the controller-as-KBM thing to work (though I've never tried it in Win7 or Win8).

There are also third-party programs that can help with mapping KBM keys to a controller.  Like Pinnacle Profiler, XPadder, and sundry.

I'm just thrilled there will be native controller support for Inquisition from the start.  When games become more action-oriented or it is a shooter, I prefer a controller.

One of the rare few things good about games with console ports (or being the PC port) is to have native joystick support (360 one).

Well, at least with DA series, joysticks does not seem necessary to me, keyboard and mouse controls are almost perfect on DA:O and DA II.

For what do you need a joystick in a RPG? Do you want air combat with dragons and gryphons?

Joysticks offer a compact design, often with more available inputs than with a standard controller.

I have two primary complaints about console controllers. First, it takes two hands to operate them effectively. Second, there simply aren't enough buttons - especially given game developers' seeming unwillingness to require they be used in combination.

Idk.. With proper use of the trigger keys, on a console controller, you can have 12 spells/abilities mapped at one time (for most RPGs) - which for me I find to be easier to work with than a keyboard and mouse. Also, I don't see how a joystick could be more beneficial just because you can play 1 handed? I don't get it.

The original NWN interface had 48 hotbar slots, each of them with a hotkey - the 12 function keys, and then those again with Alt, Ctrl, or Shift depressed.

And that's with only 15 of the 101 keys on a standard keyboard.

As for the one-handed thing, my point was that having the stick require only one hand left the other hand available to use a different input device, like a mouse, or even another stick.

Controllers are remarkably limited in what they allow the player to do, to make no mention of how they exclude players who don't have the use of both hands.

This I like, but in reverse:

It means it has an interface tailored to mouse & keyboard when using them, unlike 95% of multiplatform games where you're stuck with a gamepad optimized inventory screen for example (Skyrim, Darksiders, even The Witcher II...)

Ahhh gotcha. As far as needing that many macros, I don't think that's necessary.

However, I didn't think about the idea of someone not having the ability to use both of their hands. That alone is a reason joysticks should be adapted into games these days.. touché.

Ya won me over!
