B.  Nathaniel vs Shale       Nathaniel barely scrapes by, his experience in combat and ability to use multiple weapons gives him a slight edge over shale

 

C.  Sigrun vs Cullen          Sigrun hands down, Cullen doesnt seem to be able to handle women very well, or anything else for that matter

 

D.  Aveline vs Anders (awakening)    Aveline by a slight margin, Avelines more dry sense of humor shields her from Anders' jokes

 

E.  Morrigan vs Sten          Morrigan comes out unscathed, the epic trolling stops as Morrigan uses her arcane knowledge to take down the qunari

 

F.  Merrill vs Oghren          Oghren, as much as i love the cuteness of Merrill, dwarves are resistant to magic, including the blood kind

 

G.  Anders (da2) vs Loghain     Anders barely scrapes by, Loghain will push Anders to the brink... and Loghain pays dearly for it

C.  Sigrun vs Morrigan        Morrigan, even with her resistance, Morrigan finds a way to make a dent in the dwarf's defense

B.  Nathaniel vs Leliana      Nathaniel, clash of epic rogues, Leliana's experience is a major disadvantage for Nathaniel, but his tenacity and dedication give him the win

 

C.  Nathaniel vs Morrigan     Morrigan, shes way too smart for Nathaniel to out maneuver, Morrigan gets the victory

Fight A - Leliana. I love Varric but Leliana is more agile and could easily get/kill Varric.

Fight B - Isabela. i found Zevran to be kind of wimpy.

Fight C - Nathaniel. Sebastian is just too goody-goody.

Fight D - Tallis. She whooped a$$ in the opening scene of MOTA.

Fight E - Tie. I just can't pick one. I feel a little silly... Alistair because of his templar training and him being a grey warden. 

Fight F - Fenris. He bitched a lot but he could handle his sword well enough.

Fight G - Oghren. I would help Oghren win simply because I hate Carver.

Fight H - Loghain. Skilled fighter, years of experience, Cailan's general.

Fight I - Wynne. Both have spirits and are healers but after reading Asunder, I believe Wynne is more powerful.

Fight J - Velana. I never really used Merrill. I used Velana and she kicked butt.

Fight K - Morrigan. Powerful entropy spells. 

Fight L - Bethany. She took out a whole group of darkspawn with one spell.

Fight M - Cullen. He is a trained Templar.

Fight N - Shale. She is tough!

Fight O - Zathrian. He has powerful spells at his disposal.

Fight P - Howe. Much as I dislike him, he put up a tough fight.

My matches will be best of nine to show how close each match was.

 

A:  Leliana 5-2, bardic training, decades of experience, and a strong will to win easily outmatch Varric's talented amateur bored rich guy with nothing better to do shtick. 

 

B:  Zevren 5-4, they screw each other into exhaustion, but Zevren has slightly more stamina and knifes Isabella after she is so worn out she can't stand

 

C: Nathaniel Howe 5-0, desire to win and a willingness to fight dirty.  No contest.

 

D: Tallis 5-3, trained assassin, Sigrun never saw it coming.

 

E: Alistair 5-4, very close, it comes don to the line, but in the end Grey Warden+Templar experience pulls him through.

 

F: Sten 5-4, another very close one, but in the end Sten's strength and reach let him stary away from the hand of death and win the match.  There was much respect on both sides after the bought.

 

G:  Oghren, 5-2  Carver preaches condescendingly about stuff he know nothing about, Oghren hits him over the head with a bottle.  Match.

 

H:  Justice 5-3, being already dead makes him hard to kill.

 

I: Wynne 5-2, Faith>Justice, + 3x as much experience.

 

J: Velanna, 5-1, because like, she's older than 4 and can fight.

 

K:  Morrigan 5-0, She's one dangerous woman.  Evil, but powerful.

 

L: Anders 5-4, Close, but Anders's will to win is just so much greater than Bethany's.

 

M: Cailan 5-3, Short lived badass>longlived wimp

 

N: Shale 5-3, Ogre punches Shale, breaks hand.  Repeat.

 

O:  Zathrian 5-2, Immortal because of blood magic, and we all know Marethari can't convince a 4 year old to give up blood magic, how could she convince a 300 year old angry old man?

 

P:  Jarvia 5-1, A fading has-been is no match for someone who clawed her way to the top of the Carta.

Leliana is a bard, trained by the best and experienced in subterfuge and assassination and nowadays, the Left Hand of the Divine -and- a spymaster. As badass as Varric is, he is not Leliana.

Zevran by a landslide. He's an assassin and fights top class opponents. Isabela fights drunks.

Loghain is still a tactical genius and a worthy foe. He can be a Grey Warden and does decently in the duel.

Aveline beats every single other person. The woman is unstoppable, even Meredith stunning everyone to talk didn't make her stop attacking her.

 

She's a guard. A good guard, sure.

 

But there's a reason she was a soldier at Ostagar whereas Alistair becomes king, warden and nigh Templar.

 

Hawke's band is a group of strong people, but that's all they are- strong. Varric is a skilled dwarf, Aveline is a skilled guard.

 

But The Warden's group is made up of EXCEPTIONAL people.

 

Leliana is top tier spy/bard, Sten becomes Arishok, Alistair becomes King.

 

They're simply better.

Leliana: Really tough to choose. End of the day, I believe that Leliana has more skills at her disposal what with her extensive training being a Bard in Orlais.

Isabela. Really wanted to go Zevran here, but if it's just a straight up fight/duel, than Isabella is going to have the upperhand.

Nathaniel Howe.    No contest. Nathaniel Howe, like Leliana, has numerous skills at his disposal, and has a knack for surviving. Sebastian.... meh.

Fight D
 Sigrun. Legion of the Dead and Grey Warden. So much experience. Nothing is going to phase her, especially not someone like Tallis

 Aveline. Love Alistair, but Aveline is just way too much raw power.

Fight F
 Fenris.  Fenris and his powers, I believe, would eventually overcome Sten. He may be an Arishok now, as well as the innate strength a Qunari possesses, but Fenris would prevail eventually

Oghren.  Oghren questions Carvers manliness. Carver offended. Begin drinking contest. Oghren wins

 Justice. Benefit of animating a dead person

Wynne.  Faith beats Justice/Vengeance

 Merrill (DA2). Merrill and her blood magic wins every time. Plus she's significantly smarter than most people give her credit for

Anders (Awakening). Has the benefit of already learning everything at the Circle before Bethany, as well as escaping the templars on numerous occasions and eventually joining up with the Grey Wardens

A:

Varric wins in my Book. Crossbows are superior to Bows and Dwarves are superior to Humans. He is also savvy enough not to fall for her Tricks.

 

B:

This one goes to Zevran. As his Activities after Origins show, he actually is a Master Assassin, while Isabela might not take Things seriously, when they're serious.

 

C:

I think I'm with Nathaniel on that one. He has more Guts as well as Experience (I imagine it that way at least). Sebastian might hesitate when he better shouldn't.

 

D:

Tough one. For all my Like of the Character, I have to give it to Sigrun. She has more Sense than Tallis and doesn't strike me as that much of a Talker.

 

E:

Aveline. Experience and Single-Mindedness will win her the Battle, while Alistair might lack the ultimate Resolve.

 

F:

I hate you for pairing them, but I think Sten would win that one. His Qunari Discipline overrides Fenri's pure Rage, while they seem physically matched.

 

G:

Oghren. For all his Flaws, he IS a great Fighter that can step up to most People. Carver is just a Boy at heart.

 

H:

Justice. For all of Lghain's wits, an Undead is simply much more durable than any living Person.

 

I:

Wynne. Her benevolent Spirit is in the End much more of a Benefit than the Demon Anders has inside him.

 

J:

Velanna. She is not a nice Person at all, while Merill is deep down just a little Girl. She does not have the Guts, while Velanna can be cold blooded.

 

K:

As much as I hate her, Morrigan would win the Fight. I don't think much of Hawke's Siblings, while Morrigan had Flemeth to a Mother and knows her Secrets.

 

L:

Bethany still doesn't stand Chances. Anders is accomplished as an Apostate and repeatedly deceives the Templars by running away from the Circle.

 

M:

Oh, two Losers paired. Gotta give it to Cailan, as he stood his Ground, before failling in Battle. Cullen was captured and broken.

 

N:

Shale. Golems are at least as strong as some stupid Ogre and Shale is the Mother of Golems in my Eyes.

 

O:

Zathrian. He cursed People to be Werewolves for threehundred Years, for fork's Sake. And he was nigh immortal.

 

P:

Jarvia. There is a Difference between a backstabbing noble and a casteless Dwarf at the Head of a brutal Mafia, holding Orzammar in a Chokehold.

It's a list I made with a few friends of mine. Basically if you continue on through the next rounds you will eventually get the best rogue companion, the best warrior companion, the best mage companion and the best NPC out of the ones that are in there.

Most of my picks are based on either how strong they should have been in the lore, or how confident and sure of themselves they were. Actual combat abilities, mostly for companions, were based on how well you managed them and don't truly reflect how I think they would fight.

 

ROUND 1

Varric - Assuming DA2 Varric vs DA:O Leliana? Varric knew himself and his abilities when you met him, Leliana was full of doubt.
Fight B
Zevran - Hard one, Zevran should be the better killer, but Isabela would seem the better fighter. Went with the Crow on reputation.
Fight C
Nathaniel Howe - Another one that mostly comes down to doubt for me. Sebastian can't figure himself out without Hawke.
Fight D
Tallis - Honestly I don't have much experience with Sigrun, Tallis seemed more acrobatic.
Fight E
Aveline - If you were to match Ostagar Aveline against Ostagar Alistair, then definitely Aveline. She was born for sword and shield.
Fight F
Sten - Sten of the Barasaad seems a no brainer, Fenris just has the glowing hands trick.
Fight G
Oghren - Oghren was a venerated, if drunk and disgusting, warrior caste Dwarf. Carver was a wet-behind-the-ears brat with a sword.
Fight H
Justice - I never used Loghain so I don't really know his fighting skills. On principle I vote for Justice over the conniving skills of Loghain.
Fight I
 Anders (DA2) - Wynne just isn't a fighter. Though they may both be healers, she actually embodies the spirit more than the skillset.

Velanna - Merrill just seems too naive.
Fight K
Morrigan - This one is obvious.
Fight L
Circle Bethany - Have to give her lots of credit for being an Amell.
Fight M
Cailan - Cullen was a whiny ******-ant of a templar in the first game.

Shale - Nothing could stop Shale in my playthroughs. She is a wrecking machine - of pigeons.

Keeper Zathrian - Far more ruthless.
Fight P
Jarvia - Another tough one, as I don't expect either to play fair. Jarvia is a less pretentious killer.

Nathaniel Howe vs Sebastian Vael:  Nat Howe: Two absolute featherweights both would rather talk than fight, Howe wins because his evil gene appears.

Tallis vs Sigrun:  Tallis, why?  BioWare would not allow Sigrun to kill her no matter what.

Alistair vs Aveline:  Are you serious?  Lady man hands could beat Alistair if she was still a baby in her cradle.

Sten vs Fenris:  Fenris, Sten talks a good game but in reality is a weak companion overall.  He's be saying 'No!' as Fenris grabbed his heart out of his chest.

Oghren vs Grey Warden Carver:  Oghren even if blind drunk but easily beat Derper.

Justice (Awakening) vs Loghain:  Loghain, he has cooler armour.

Wynne vs Anders (DA2) Anders:  Anders, Wynne would be killed along with another 500 people when the circle tower blows up.  Anders would say he knew he did wrong but there was no other choice.

Velanna vs Merrill (DA2) Merrill - Velanna is so dumb that Merrill would go "Oh! look at the rainbow Uweeekneeeecorn!"  When Velanna looked Merrill would sick a demon on her.

Morrigan vs Grey Warden Bethany:  Morrigan - Morrigan would tell Bethanny that her breasts were really not that big and she had skeletor hands and while Bethanny cried she would change into a dragon and eat her.

Anders (Awakening) vs Circle Bethany:  Anders:  Anders would tell Bethany that her breasts were nice and big and her hands were silky smooth and as bethany smiled Anders would Cone of cold her.

Cailan vs Cullen (DA:O) Cullen:  Calian would have a glorious battle plan but Cullen would assemble his templar gangsters and say "I was just going to arrest you but have decided to kill you instead."

Ogre (DA:O) vs Shale:  Shale, ogres are squishy and I would whisper into shales ear before the battle "ogres love pigeons!"

Keeper Marethari (non-possessed) vs Keeper Zathrian:  Marethari, she would bore Zathrain to death, even though he is almost immortal.  You would find Zathrian as a skeleton coverd in cobwebs with Marethri still droning on about the old ways and her 'first'

Jarvia vs Arl Rendon Howe:  Howe,   after howe penetrated Jarvias head quarters and killed 750 dwarven assasins and thieves Jarvia would tell him he's really going to pay now and not run away.  Also Howe is vocied by Tim Curry.

Fight H: Loghain. Lohgain has a better grasp of mortality and would fight harder. Plus his body isn't decaying.

Fight K: Morrigan. Entirely different levels imo.

Fight L: Anders.

Fight M: Cullen.

Fight N: Shale. I've seen her beat several Ogres already.

Fight O: Zathrian.

Fight P: Howe.

 

P.S. Though no one asked, my Warden would kick my Hawke's ass.
