Does anyone know if we will be given the option to install directly from the disc instead of downloading through Origin?

If you purchase a PC disc copy of the game then the game installs from the disc.

Had the same with Mass Effect 3.Bought a physical copy of the game but I still had to download the full game through origin. The disc was a complete waste.

I am not sure what happened there, but that was not the design, nor have I ever heard that reported as a bug. This could certainly happen if you ran the Origin client and simply redeemed your game code from the PC box in the client instead of running the game installer from the disc directly.

My disc had all the files of the game on it.I copied all of the files from the disc to the game instalation folder so i didnt had to download the game.

Even when you install from the disc, the Origin client says you're "downloading" files. It doesn't actually mean you're really downloading anything, unless your client is glitching or you made a mistake.

All I want to know is if they'll add extra DRM to the disc version because if they don't, I'm going with the disc because I prefer to have physical media in my hands. If it's going to drop all kinds of extra disc check DRMs or something like that then I'll just dled it on Origin.

Just wanted to confirm and not take anything for granted, just in case.

ETA: I could have sworn that I've bought discs for games that make you download them from a game client, but I can't recall which they were right now. -_-

Can confirm this was the case with Defiance. Day 1, had to download the 5gb patch.

But not common behaviour this

Hope this is the case. I believe ME3, XCOM, and even Skyrim all were turned into DL, though someone on the forums here posted a walkaround for the latter one. And having to wait hrs while the disks are in hand is rather annoying.

In my experience with disc purchases (like ME3) is that it installed from the disc. Although origin will say it is downloading, its simply getting it from disc and not downloading from the net. I know this because I was getting ridiculous speeds of 31 MB/s, prior to getting the NBN (yay for Australian sucky net speeds) which would have capped out at around 200-300kb/s.

I don't know what "turned into DL" means. As I said above, ME3 and DA Inquisition PC installation treat the discs as local copies of the digital download. If you run the setup from disc, you install from disc. Anything else is a bug and should be reported, if it can be duplicated.

Our last 2 PC games (ME3 and DA2) both used the same EA activation system that is being used for DA Inquisition. There is no difference between the disc and the downloaded versions.

It has been some time since ME3 installation for me, but XCOM was not that long ago, and again it had me posting/ begging on this very subject recently. Going by the posted instructions leads to a download lasting for several hours; not an installation from the disks.

It may not be the disks at all; perhaps the flaw is on Origin, Steam, etc. But it does and has occurred.

Thank you for the clarification. If I remember right the only thing it did in ME3/DA2 was do a one time online verification check and then it tied itself to your Origin account. I'm fine by this.

Of course it's going to be installable through the disc if you have bought a disc. Why would physical discs be available for purchase if that wasn't the case? O.o

Starcraft 2 did it for "Heart of the Swarm". The disc version contained the "based game" and the expansion content had to be downloaded as a "patch". Granted it also had an "always online" component to it and therefore you had to log into the client anyway. Still the disc for "Heart of Swarm" did not contain the data for "Heart of Swarm" only the data for "Wings of Liberty" (base game) as Blizzard wanted to help so people did not have to download the whole package (base game + exp pack) if they were new to SC2 or if they couldn't find the install discs for Wings of Liberty. Also would guess that the "install" on the exp pack disc gave a cleaner version than the original base game + lots of patches.

However that is the only example I'm aware.

Also when I was back in Germany around Christmas one shop had a note that said something like "Per EA policy, defective discs can no longer be exchanged as Origin is available" (ore something like that)

It's interesting that some of the previous BioWare games had less DRM with the disc version, because if you registered your copy on Origin, you could download it, and then launch it without the disc or Origin even. This is the case for ME2 and DAO at least.

Mass Effect 3 was inconsistent with how it worked, for some people reported that they needed to be online to authenticate DLC each time you play the game and I hope that is not the case with Dragon Age: Inquisition, for I would think that is what Origin is designed to handle,. It would be nice to set Origin in offline mode if my internet is acting up and be able to play the game with everything like I can with other Origin titles.

That's Steam you talking about. I remember BordeLands 2 disc that only had 112 mb on disc and Batman Akham Origins with 560 mb. Annoying as hell. I have a simillar problem with internet connection - my speed got limited by 256 kb once i reach 10 gb per month. Thankfully Origin doesn't have such problems.

It's kinda obvious that if you bought disc version of the game then you actually wan't install it that way.

Not really. As stated above, there are a few games out there that simply have the installer on the disc and nothing else. I've learned to take nothing for granted when it comes to video game installation.

Ah, I never ran into that problem. When I'm on Origin I'm online anyway so that's not an issue for me personally.
