Somebody remind me why american football is called "football"?
well it sure beats 'handegg' as a name doesn't it. Also, i may be mistaken, but many, many, many years ago, you could score a rouge for 2 points by kicking the ball on the run thru the uprights .. someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong ...
@Nightslasher - there are thousands of sports not mentioned here .. I'll guess one of yours is Cricket?

American football and soccer both suck.

EDIT: Golf and baseball are even worse. Ugh.

Cricket and field hockey.
Could include tennis too, although it's been a long while since I played tennis.

Having played soccer for about 4 years on a travel team in the states during my youth and advancing to play football in college, I can appreciate aspects of both sports. Flopping isn't solely isolated to soccer, though it does hold a more significant place in the sport than in many others. I detest it whenever it happens, whether it be a striker or a punter flopping to gain an undue advantage for their team. I can enjoy watching high level soccer games, but it isn't anything I would go out of my way to watch.
I am happy that soccer continues to gain popularity in the states and I hope it is a trend that follows for many years. I doubt it will ever surpass football as the US sport of choosing, but I wouldn't mind seeing it overtake the boring spectator sport of baseball or golf as a strong contender for american viewership.
As one said one day, "rugby is a thug's sport played by gentlemen, soccer is a gentleman's sport played by thugs". Cheating, taking advantage of his opponents and of the referee is deeply anchored into the culture of this sport. I understand that it can be irritating and frustrating but it doesn't nullify all the good aspects of soccer.
Actually your national team is pretty good. Not enough to win the World Cup, but enough to be hard to defeat.

I suggest you go watch some Champion's League matches from ~1998 era. I guarantee you blatant flopping, diving and other forms of cheating are virtually nonexistent.
This stuff really got rampant only recently (after 2000).

Lol, yeah I noticed. The lead lasted for about 2 minutes. Still a great performance from the Aussies so far.

There's paintball, and also paintball, and even better there's more paintball. If that's not enough, paintball is awesome too.

Bescause soccer is the proper term shorthand term. It was the dirty proletariat that started using the term 'football' when they really meant soccer.
Spoiler alert: language is a living thing and it doesn't matter too much what it should've been called initially when it's now called football by pretty much everyone except the Americans.
While this is an argument that favours both "football" and "American football", it carriest a lot more weight than why this used to be called whatever it was called 100 years ago.
Maybe in the next 100 years, people will actually call them "flopball" and "American Rugby".

Sadly its a dying sport, no more elite heavyweights, I boxed Golden Gloves in NYC as a kid and loved it. the last true individual sports left. If I'm an athletic 190-200+ pound kid,, why would I want to box. there are so many other sports that pay more and are easier to get into. with the advent of UFC boxing is on the wayside unfortunately, masses like the UFC better now.. pretty soon we will be talking anecdotally about boxing to our children...

I'm still waiting on some truly great heavy weights making an appearance again. It's been a long time.

**** the heavyweights. I haven't paid attention to them in quite a while. Light heavyweight and below is still pretty interesting, but I guess the general public don't care for them. I don't also buy into the whole UFC thing. Seems to have lost some steam imo.
