Is it really that long though? I never felt that it took particularily long to finish that level. Maybe people rather skip it because it is the only instance where you have to do all the fights alone without companions, which can be rather frustrating?

Myself, I like the Fade section in the Broken Circle.

Long sections with little or no availability to merchants (or save points) can be frustrating, though.

I liked the Fade portion, it was fun an innovative with all the shape-shifting.

The second time through, not so much

Seriously, get Dark Souls. Not only can every enemy kill you in a few hits, but every area is dark and huge. Sen's Fortress, the Catacombs and Blighttown are very hard to navigate.

Honestly the story doesn't make much sense anyway if you start to think about it.

4 random people killing a pride abomination, which lorewise is  able do destroy an entire city on its own. It will always be  quite ridiciulous, no matter how hard you make the gameplay. If your suspension of disbelief isn't broken at that point it shouldn't be broken by a big boss dying after a couple of sword swings either.

Yeah, if you start analyzing everything that happens it makes no sense at all. Companions "reviving" if they "die" in battle, getting chewed up by dragons and still living... it's all really silly tbh.

However things that are supposed to be super duper powerful according to the lore should indeed present a greater challenge than the rest of the standard gameplay. It may still not make complete sense when put up to scrutiny, but at least the acknowledgement of something stated in the lore makes things more palatable.

Also, on a less trollish reply to the OP, I love long and challenging dungeons too (love both the deep roads and the fade), but I acknowledge it's not the most popular thing, so making it optional would be for the best, with the best loot and hardest fights in the whole game in it.

The game is in Alpha now. What's going to be in it is already in it. You're gonna have to wait for the 4th installment.

Lol, seems like some people want an interactive movie instead of a videogame....

Lots of people seemed to dislike the longer dungeons in Origins.

Not me. I loved the Deep Roads, still my favorite part of the game.

And why not?

Movies are great. Surely being to interact with one would make them even better.

I'm a huge fan of Telltale's games for this very reason.

I apologize. I'm ever so sorry that I dare to have different tastes from you.

Seriously, does some people not liking the gameplay and preferring the story impact you in any way? You play the game how you want, they play the game how they want. It's not a ****** issue.

Luckily people like you are an extremely small minority, and no, the people on this forum do not in any way represent the majority of Biowares fanbase.

Good thing most game devs don't cater to people who want a movie instead of a game.

I never said they did? In fact, I was going to use "people like me" being a minority as an argument for why this shouldn't p*ss you off as much as it does. No need to be a d^ck, man.

Lol, even though I'm technically on your side (liking complex gameplay and high difficulty), you're also highly mistaken if you think you are part of the majority as far as what general tastes are.

Casual gamers (the ones that want "interactive movies" as you put it, which for what it's worth, is fine by me in some genres) are a much bigger population than hardcore ones.

Don't be elitist, yo. People having preferences doesn't rob you of anything. There's no need to look down on others.

The endlessly long dungeon could be an option.

It would reward us with epic loot, very interesting world lore, and maybe save a village or something.

Give us the biggest dungeons you can muster, and put us fans to the test. Send lots of hard nastiest in there and make our builds, equipment, and potions count. Break our nerves.

Make the level design the best, not repetitive, and boring like Skyrim. Make the content very interesting! With very cool, interesting bosses.

Dragon Age is not about endlessly long dungeons. Sceneries should represent more quality than quantity. The same with battles. If you want endlessly long dungeon then maybe Diablo or another hack & slash would be better option?

I won't lie, I don't play games for difficulty or complex tactics. I want an escape that is more morally challenging and engrossing, than tactically difficult. So if I enter a dungeon or a difficult fight, I want it to be compact, have a point tied into the plot, and move the story on. Random encounters I don't include in this-they're just tools to engage with the combat and tactics, and to level your character. They serve a purpose for me that I'm happy with.

But unnecessarily long dungeons and difficult encounters? They're not what I play the game for. For me, the dungeons and encounters are a means to an end- a means to further the story.

That being said, having them in the game as an optional part for dedicated explorers and hardcore tacticians? I'd have no objection to that, because that would be content I don't have to experience, but that would be there to enhance the game for those that wish it. I just wanted to put my views across, as I know RPG's attract a very diverse selection of gamers, and it's therefore difficult to accommodate everyone's tastes :)

I agree.  Although I really love story-driven RPGs, stumbling into or learning about a huge dungeon that doesn't necessarily have ties to the main storyline is always fun.  The first Baldur's Gate is full of random, large encounters (even if they're not dungeons per se) and Baldur's Gate II likewise had lots of these, including quite a few random houses/mansions with huge fights, great loot, and some additional lore (like the place you stumble into where you have to fight a group of some of the nastiest monsters including a lich, vampire, and eye tyrant to get the Staff of the Magi!).

I tend to prefer the less but larger dungeons approach that Origins had, than the multiple mini dungeons of DAII, even if they had been all different. It feels way more epic.

As a side quest, in the line of Durlag's Tower and Watcher's Keep it's fine as well. I think DAII's Legacy DLC is already supposed to be a version of that, it's just a multiple level dungeon with loot and a big boss at the end.
