This kind of stuff was never meant to make players forgive him for his actions. Just for us to sympathize with his character and see he is not entirely evil.


That's an ignorant thing to say, each person can take what they want from this scene. And while it is likely you are right, you can't know what the writer of this scene intended for people to "feel" when seeing this. That is, unless s/he told you in person.

Loghain seemed to betray because he was protecting his daughter and he feared that the Orlaisian's would use the chaos of the blight to take back a weakened Ferelden. His hatred for Orlais is pretty strong, no.

What do you mean "protecting his daughter?" There were plans to have Loghain intentionally betray Cailan because he knew about Cailan's plans to divorce Anora (though that's less "protecting his daughter" than "protecting his son-in-law's subjects from the subjects of the woman his son-in-law intends to marry") but Return To Ostagar makes pretty clear that he didn't know that in the game as sold.
