All this time, I hated Loghain's treachery.

That's a good point, though it's a better argument for not recruiting them than for recruiting Loghain.

Which is also true. I suppose what strikes me as odd is that some people have no problem inviting the assassin, the foreign murderer who is there on a secret mission from the Qunari or the memory impaired golem who killed its former master into the party but the idea of Loghain drives them up a wall and such.

The impression you gave was they were equally at fault when that is clearly not the case. Jowan is responsible for setting events in motion but Loghain is legally at blame. Jowan was literally the perfect person to manipulate because:

I'm sorry you got that impression. I thought I outright said that some people held more blame than others, but they all had a share of it.

Well I can't bring myself to point a finger at him and go how dare you. Like I said he was a gullible full with no hope that trusted the wrong person because they let him see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Loghain could have freed the Circle if it hadn't been for Wynne's interference.I sort of wondered what his end plan was-maybe send the Army against the Templars? That would have caused a brouhaha with the Chantry, for sure.

I don't remember anything about Loghain pressuring Jowan with threats to torture his family... in fact, didn't Jowan's parents believe he was an abomination and abandon him, when he was a very small child? My recollection is that Loghain told Jowan he'd smooth things over with the Circle as reward for his help, so Jowan could go back and not be executed. No pressure. Just two 'men' cutting a deal that was to both their advantages.

Yes but the point is it's something that could have happened if he refused Loghain's offer and totally something Howe would do.

Loghain seemed to promise both Uldred and Jowan more freedom from Chantry restrictions in general. He might've even been telling the truth. He was even working with Tevinter blood mage slavers. In one light, his ideas are radical. Too radical. He's so anti-Orlais that he'll side with the worst of Tevinter.

Zevran well, I think he was seriously fooked and needed the warden alive to help protect himself from the crows. So I think he would keep the warden alive.

The assurance he gives you that he is seriously fooked is born out by Ignacio's threat towards him when they meet. At the time, however, you have only his word to go on.

And even then, he'll turn on the Warden if his friendship isn't high enough near the end.

I wonder if Taliesin meant what he said about not wanting to fook Zevran over?

No idea. Zevran and Taliesin were buddies in the crows, but they both readily turned on Reena on that mission that went wrong, only for Zev to find out that Reena was later telling the truth and he felt really guilty over it, but I honestly don't know about Taliesin.

My assurance came from him being wide open with why he was after the warden and the crows. And I agree that its not personal because he does not have a choice. It seems like its kill or die from probably as early as 8 years old. Yes he is a murderer but the difference is he did not have a choice wether he likes killing or not. At the end of the day he was a gun not the gun holder pointing that gun on my head ( yes loghain). Does that make me gullible? Maybe or maybe not, unless personal opinion is overrated these days it does not matter. And I try to take people at face value till they fook me over. This is when I first met him without even knowing about ignacio. As I said I dont fully trust any of them except doggie. He sorts them out fast if they so much bats an eye.

And I never ever had zevran turn me over to talisein, nor any of my companions except for sten at haven. But I managed to smooth him over without fighting him. Im such a softie.

Don't feel too sorry for Loghain. Evil people can love dogs too.

If it was up to me, i would have paused if Hitler yielded too.

His complete inability to yield though was part of his problem. Not just the evil deeds.

As my Warden said to his daughter, "Aww, it almost makes me want to kill you less". Still hate his guts.

I wouldn't. My mother's father's entire large extensive family living in Germany (who tried and failed for years to get American work visas, btw) suddenly dropped off the face of the earth in 1943. I'd take advantage of Hitler's pause to go Bear Jew on his ass and bludgeon his face into a carpet stain with a baseball bat.

Y'all see why Howe purging and Loghain selling the City Elf Warden's alienage into slavery strikes such a strong chord in me, everyone?

Yup. And that's why I have little to no pity for him by the time he finally yields. Shoulda taken my offer to step down while you had the chance, Deserter, Traitor, Usurper, Butcher, and Slave-Trader Loghain.

I compared Loghain to Hitler on page 2 of this thread. People keep defending Loghain and it's annoying. Maybe it's easier because he's a fictional character. But poor Hitler was just trying to do what was best for Germany. And he was beat as a child; even put into a coma for 2 days from a beating once. He loved dogs too. And like Loghain's plausible deniability for Howe's actions, Hitler had very little knowledge of the concentration/extermination camps which were largely operated under people like Heinrich Himmler. If anyone in your family was a victim of either Loghain or Hitler's "greater good" mentality you wouldn't hesitate to kill them.

Gotta hearken back to the most ironic moment in the history of any video game ever...

Return to Ostagar DLC. Fighting the Risen Ogre that killed Cailan, my Dalish warden (while nearly dead) was grabbed by it. It was preparing to do that thing where it punches you over and over after picking you up.

I swear, I did not arrange this, and I had never seen the animation before so I didn't realize what was about to happen. After the Ogre picked my Warden up and before it could deliver the finishing blow, time slowed, and Loghain leapt up onto its chest, stabbing it with his sword and bringing it down to the ground (freeing my Warden in the process), where Loghain delivered a finishing stab directly between the eyes.

In the immortal words of Burt Gummer, what kind of supreme being would condone such irony?

Talk about a Redeemer arc...

And yet, that same character continues to disrespect his Regal charge and prefer to see his remains fed to the wolves. Not a fan of allowing Loghain to live very often at all.

I mean I spare him now for my golden ending but I'm certainly not happy about it.

My Dalish warden was down with that plan.

Not a big fan of Shemlen royalty.

I haven't done that myself, but I think what the point is that though he was the king, Cailan's body shouldn't be given a special funeral when there were hundreds of soldiers who are going to be left to the wolves and forgotten. Cailan wanted to play at war and I think Loghain wants his body to receive the treatment every other soldier will get.

But that's simply my take on it.
