Good interview, I liked it. He also managed to pry loose some new info (20 dragons? Damn, I was thinking one per area or something :D ), so that's always good :P

About the hours... That's all very subjective to playstyle. They already mentioned you can do a rush-playthrough in 15 hours. But on the other hand, some players (like me) take their sweet, sweet time experiencing the full glory of bioware magic to all the finest details. My first playthrough of origins catapulted me well beyond 100 hours. DAII did not take that long, but it was a shorter game. Then again, there are so many hours you can spend on replayability in DA, that the main length of the quest isn't even a factor. I expect DAI to take me at least 100 hours to finish the first time around. And I'll lose at least 500 hours altogether on this. So that's a LOT of bang for my buck.

Where did you hear that you could rush through the game in 15 hours? When Mike Laidlaw was being interviewed by Eurogamer, he said that a "fast way" through Inquisition, focusing on just story to the exclusion of everything else, would run you at least 50 hours.

It was in the very first E3 interview (the one visible on twitter) that they said it, I think.

Could be that I misunderstood 15 for 50 though... I'll check it again later when I'm home.

EDIT: oh, you linked to it... I check, yeah, he said 50, my bad. :(

Having too many dragons risks devaluing them, I think.

Depends how different they are. 20 seems like too many for them to be anything like unique.

Yeah, the animosity between the Witcher and Dragon Age fan bases has really grown old. Bioware and CD Projekt are both excellent companies that make very  different style of games. Comparing the merits of both franchises is, in my opinion, an exercise in futility.

Can't we all just get along?

well apparently not I also like both games and visit both forums and dude let me tell you

they are not so fond of Dragon Age or its fans either they think their TW is mature and awesome while DA is childisch and shitty

They're just big lizards. How can you devalue them any further?

I'm already tired of people complaining that Inquisition "copied Skyrim" when all they have to go off of is a 20-some odd minute gameplay video. The fact that people are already comparing Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Dragon Age: Inquisition is especially baffling as neither game has been released

What ALOT of people seemed to have forgotten is that one of the head developers of The Witcher 3 has stated that they were also looking into Skyrim for inspiration for their open world game. In fact if I remember correctly, he took it a step further and stated they were going to surpass it.

If there is one other company TW fans hate and the fans as well more than Bioware, it's Bethesda, especially Skyrkm. I remember the flame wars a year back or so between the two, it was ridiculous.

Shows u the maturity of ppl when all the satisfaction they get out of life is to say one game is bad while there fav is awesome, never ceases to amaze me how ppl cant just enjoy more than one franchise, its like icecream, cause i love mint choc dont mean im gonnae exclude every other icecream out there, like hell i will limit myself like that, ok well maybe if it was coffee icecream (yuck)

Pretty solid interview asking the right sort of questions. Obviously twice referring to Morrigan as Morgana, even after being told her name docks some points.

Transistor is one of the finest RPG's (Games) ever made.. It only clocks in at eight hours.

A game is only supposed to be what it is intended to be, narrowing what defines a game or even a genre is like banning the color Blue from anything that also has Red.

Transistor was an indie game, not a AAA game like DAI,Skyrim

learning that we could get lost in the open world for one hundred hours or more made me weep with joy. :)

I feel like someone should point out that the two doctors (may their careers R.I.P.) claimed that Origins was an 80-100 game. Origins is one of my favourite games of all times, but it was not a 80-100 hour game. When it comes to claims about features during marketing periods for their games, BioWare has been less than reliable. (No offense, BioWare)

It took me 100 hours to finish DAO the first time.

Just because someone can rush through the game doesn't mean that devs are lying.

Yeah agree, game length is something that can very much vary person to person. Checking my file history my first completed game clocked in at close to 80hrs.

Later playthroughs shaved time off.

Origins for me was somewhere between 45 and 290 hours :P depending on the playthrough. I expect DA:I to be like that, but bigger and possibly better. It seems like the side content is going to be more relevant to how you play, too.

Only the opinion of this Ancient One, but I personally find that our own journalistic forumites make better and more enjoyable sources of information than many of these celebrated critics. I prefer the sound of genuine laughter, excitement, and fan curiosity over so many of these reviewers. And I would like to thank our fellows, and encourage the former to avoid morphing into the latter.

No offense intended, but if it took you 100 hours to finish a single playthrough of Origins, you must have suffered from terrible vertigo or something while playing. The dungeons in Origins are pretty linear and I don't see how you can get lost for 50-60 hours. The last time I played through Origins, I did every quest available and sitll finished in around 45 hours.

DAO was pre-vertigo days; also played for well over 100 hrs on my early playthroughs. And to this day, I can still find dialogue and locations not discovered earlier.

Same here, but with frequent breaks with the PC on and a fairly relaxed but thorough playing style. I think I could have shaved off 20 hours and still been pretty thorough. DA2 would have taken half that, I think.

I think it depends on how much you engage youself and what you read. I remember my first playthrough of Origin also took around the 40-45 hour mark, I read every quest and finished every quest, but I did not read a single codex entry, which combined with a bit more hardcore roleplaying attitude toward the game probably can double the games length. To be honest I think it's dangerous for the devs to talk about game length (not just Bioware), saying main quest is 50 hours + 100+ hours for exploration I suspect they calculate in that people really immerse themselves, and while that may be the case for most frequenting these forums, I doubt it's the case the mainstream consumer base. That said even if the game incl. exploration for a standard player was to e.g. 50-60 hours, that is more than enough in my opinion.

I have to agree with this Ancient One's opinion.

GamerMD83's boundless enthusiasm and big smiles are my bread and butter. There's a lot of vitriol in this community and the video game community at large, especially when it comes to people slinging mud over the Witcher versus Dragon Age as if they couldn't co-exist. It's just such a relief to see people be excited and happy for the sake of being excited and happy.

Perhaps it's just me, but this guy's interview felt combative and rude. Maybe that's his thing? Because he's angry? I don't know. I didn't like it.

No, I don't have vertigo and it wasn't my first game either. I just talk to everyone (all the investigate options) and never skip conversations and the first time I also read all the codex entries.

Frankly I don't get how you can finish in 45 without hitting escape all the time and missing half the content.
