I actually do the opposite on Rio. I go all the way to the other end, then with about 20 seconds I whip out my missile launcher and destroy anything in my way.

Also, I think Jade is the absolute worst map to camp the LZ

I agree, though Hydra gives Jade a run for its money.

Not the EZ there but that whole back end of the map.

My thoughts exactly.

Reactor is one that I've loled at many times, it should be a good one, what with the ammo box just where you need it but I think it's the one where I've gone down the most in the last few seconds the most with. I might try and cower in the tiny area to the rear of it and hope nothing notices me...

Giant actually sucks bad, it's usually the spawn right next to extraction that is being used. When something dies it's back in your face in ten seconds.

It's not as bad if one person sits at that spawn to block it, but I've never seen pugs think of that.

Sitting in that point cuts you from killing stuff and if you go to a RHA point i m pretty sure things will spawn right behind you

I only hold the Giant LZ with Cerb Plat cause with a good team you can hold it against the dragoon/hunter bum rush. The only thing that can really crash it is the double Atlas. As far as I am concerned, that's the only time I hold the LZ. Any other time it's pulling the enemies away from the LZ as best as possible. The top maps for having the worst LZ/EZ is Hydra, Jade, Rio, and Ghost. I mention ghost cause it's a freaking big dip and a classic case of high ground vs low ground. Also the cover is less than ideal as well. Hydra you're open to fire from all directions, jade I'm not even going to touch, and Rio is the same case as ghost. Besides running through everything is kinda thrilling for me. Except for primes anyway.

Right, I didn't think of that.

Rio is the same case as ghost.

The EZ itself is a nightmare, yeah, but the back wall is IMO pretty solid. There's decent cover/RHA, two ammo boxes, and the enemies have to spawn at the far end of the map. You can start picking them off once they cross the middle area, and when there's ten seconds left, just saunter over to the EZ.

Like others have mentioned..i think Dagger and Giant are the best maps to hold the line, but only with a good team...dragoons and phantoms can overrun you quickly if they aren't dealt with fast. Well just about any faction will overrun you without a good squad...praetorians will bum-rush, scions carpet grenades, Primes pulse cannon hitting you with pinpoint accuracy...multiple invisible rocket troopers...etc.

Long range casters and some heavy hard hitting weapons can keep most at bay though long enough for the team to destroy them before they become a threat at close range. For the most part, i really don't try to hold the line unless i know the team is able. I usually run to the back of the map and at the 20 second mark, i'll make a run for it.

Rio, Jade, and Hydra,...and Condor sucks trying to hold the line...just waaaay too open to get hit from multiple enemy fire.

I try to steer spawns away from the EZ but then comes the revive-fest as at least one goes there, dies, others go to revive, die, too, etc.  Multiple dilemmas for me: should I get on the mic to give 'advice'?  Should I let them die?  Of course, this happens mainly to noobs who join gold lobbies with no experience, no gear, no clue.

Not to mention that enemies on Rio usually spawn in the corner across from the LZ unless someone is standing there.

I almost always try to be within sight of that spot around the end of wave 10.That's where I go to keep spawns from happening on the EZ side of the map. However,it may cost me 1 missile to wipe a spawning crowd if I'm a little late. But from there it's easy to control enemies till extraction, even if I'm the only one there. But Rio is the only map I do this on.

The Glacier LZ can be held quite well by a good team.

2 guys at the top of the ramp and the other 2 at the bottom door.

I think Hydra and Jade are the worst, borderline impossible to hold. With an honorable mention for the pit of doom on Ghost.  :(

I join the pugs in the chaos if I have enough consumables as backup. Cause it's quite fun. But if I'm tapped out on gels, rockets and ops packs, I'm on the other side of the map hiding and running away from anyone nearing me until I killed enough time to sneak back to LZ.

What's the etiquette when 3 other players are camping the EZ and you're somewhere else drawing zero attention? Do you just chill out and wait until a few seconds left, then book it to the EZ? Do you rush in to help? Do you kind of go halfway and start shooting to draw to attact some enemies to yourself?

(I find this happening most often on Reactor. 3 guys at the EZ, I'm on the opposite size with the glowy blue control panel and the ammo box, and literally zero enemies even notice I'm there.)

Lately I don't even have to worry about unexperienced people trying to camp the LZ...they have adquired a habit of dying on Wave 11, then ragequitting.

Happened to me 2 times straight already....it's a new fashion or something?

Sometimes I run around killing stuff, sometimes I just chill out, listening to the desperate cries of scrubs hopelessly fighting for their existence. No one who's camping the EZ is ever going to get any intentional help from me. If they want to make their own lives difficult, that's their prerogative - I just wish they had the decency to die where I'm not likely to stumble over their corpses.

I don't know, I can get really attached to my pugs, no matter how poor, if we somehow make it to the extraction wave as a team (and not me rambo'ing/soloing every wave, which I will never do, cause I've said I'd never solo more then one, maybe two, full budget waves). Yesterday I was trying my changed back to nades Destroyer on Hazard Dagger Geth, and the first objective wave last device totally brought me to like 1 gel & 2 ops, two rockets. Partly my fault for counting on the pugs and not using a rocket earlier, then the pugs' fault for not dieing fast enough so I can lure them all away, lol. Anyways, I had zero faith that we'd make it to extraction wave after that (and I just had enough time to finish that last device on wave 3, lol). But somehow the pugs starting caring more as if they've greatly appreciated all that pain I went through to keep things going? And they started geling and rocketing more, you know, doing their part whatever they can to help.

But when extraction wave came, I made the big mistake of keeping everybody at the LZ cause lame me thought it was the one further away from the Dagger Tower!! Well when I finally get rid of this fast closing in Prime (all enemies in Berserk mode for last wave? Seems like it), and as the smoke over that Prime's corpse clears only to be replaced with another Prime right there, like some cruel joke in a cartoon. I knew something was wrong? I take a closer look and see the LZ blue grid wire frame and go "OH NO. :o" ... Everybody drops.... I make a quick revive after some nade spamming and from hard cover, then turn off Devistator mode and run for the hills!!!! ... almost there... *stagger* .. almost there *stager* stagger* stagger* ... "how much health gates do I have? ... anyways, I can see the drop, just another step!! *stagger* dead.... ... "le sigh" ... "Maybe I should of left Devistator mode on for stagger protection?"

But I regret nothing! Easily my most fun game of the day by far playing as a Destroyer with Phaeston and lvl.1 consumables, in a day were I just felt worn out from playing all day. And with pugs no one would dare stick in that lobby with. But sometimes you just have to take these games for some real magic in this game... I then went to bed very satisfied that I at least enjoyed one game that day.

Most pugs head for the extraction zone because the Shuttle pilot or mission commander  tells them to .

Rio can still get messy unless you have rockets . I prefer to kill as much as possible and leave just enough time to get there - usually with a missile equipped for the run home just in case the EZ is crowded or I run into a wall of enemies.

To answer your question - I can't think of any map where it is safer to head straight for the EZ

maybe not safer, but a few maps are relatively safe, such as: giant, white, london, condor, goddess, and jade

edit: also one of the vancouver lz's.  the other one on that map is a pain tho.

I'd like to say Rio.  I really would.  In theory it would be perfect: one player suppresses the spawn next to the EZ, the other players slowly fall back from the tower (or hold the tower for 1:45 and then sprint?).  Or, all 4 hang out at that spawn and take advantage of long sight lines with little cover.

In practice, every time I've tried suppressing that spawn, they just spawn on top of me anyway, regardless of where the other players are standing.

These days I just leisurely bide my time at the far end of whatever map it is, wait for the pugs to die at the EZ, and then wander into the EZ just in time to meet the shuttle.

Sometimes I feel a twinge of guilt when one of the pugs fights their way clear to where I'm loitering, sees that I'm fine, and then runs back to rez the others.  Thanks for checking!  I appreciate the thought.  I'm fine though, really.  Stick around next time!

On Rio the LZ side is fairly easy to defend although i generally hide out in the box maze (I always seem to be there at the end of wave 10 even in silver)

Giant's probably the only map where camping the LZ works. Otherwise if the pugs don't understand why I'm running away from the LZ, they're on their own.

I usually tell the pugs to stay away from the landing zone and follow me. Then we die on the other end of the map ... :P No, j/k then we run back in the last 20-30 secs.

If I were going to camp an extraction zone it'd be Giant. Rio's always a tough one for me, which is why I prefer to sit on the other end of the map there and then break for the LZ at 25 sec's.
