Hello!

I recently (as in the past couple of years) put over countless hours into this great game inbetween work and full-time college to get a complete, 100% Complete (or at least the Completionist Achievement) and the remaining achievements in this game. Now, before I ask my question, I need to elaborate on why I'm explaining what I did.

My Save Games were Damaged in a Recent upgrade to Windows 7.

While installing Windows 7, my computer suffered a system error and I was forced to restart with factory defaults on the Windows 7 Operating system. With no back up to turn to (even though everything should have backed up into a seperate partitiion - but didn't) my saves are gone.

I can't express enough the grief I'm feeling for putting all this work into the game 3 days from release to have EVERYTHING erased. Every single hour of painstaking gameplay/codex collecting/achievement earning hour on my lovely, unique character is gone. While I managed to reinstall Mass Effect and even recreate the same (or at least similar) character again, I am... just out of energy. I don't think I can play through several more times to get all the achievements.

So this is when I brought up cheats. Someone told me I could get help with this, that to solve my problem, I would only need cheats and a single playthrough (maybe two to keep the bonus talent at the end of the new game+). Now, I hate using cheats for great games (Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect, Bioshock, etc etc etc, the list goes on) But I feel I have no choice in the matter now.

However, I have also heard rumors (nothing official despite my searches) that the game takes into effect a lot of things you have done, and could also possibly punish you for using cheats in Mass Effect.

To get to the point, I'm scared of this. I don't want to do two more playthroughs with cheats just to find out none of it counts. If that's the case, then I don't want to play through again at all. It's too tiring.

So here's the major question: Will playing with cheats affect my ME2 Save Imports? Will my Achievements unlocked through cheats still count? Is there ANY way to recover my old saves otherwise via STEAM or... some other means?

Please help, and I stress, please read everything above so this makes sense. Or at least tries to.

Thanks for the time and any help, and if the DEVs (or community managers) could e-mail me, that would even be better (to avoid spoilers incase a list is given or something else). Please!

Still read around, doesn't seem to be very much change from what I've found- confusing reports and such of what Cheats could do. I don't want to cheat if it's going to screw up my game, even if I have to play several times over. Again.

items, money, and skills have no effect on imported characters. as far as i know bioware isn't actively punishing people for cheating. so as long as you're not messing around inside the save file itself, then you're probably good to go.

also

you can d/l saves from here

Thanks for the reply. I hope this is the case -

I activated the following cheats -

All Achievements Unlocked,

Weapons and Armor,

Leveled up to 50 (so I can earn the rest on my playthrough as I try to complete all the missions/Easter Eggs)

And money of course.

- I hate to even say that I've used any of them, if only because I've beaten the game legit on both Xbox and PC... I just hope this works and nothing gets corrupted.

I think you should be fine. A Bioware programmer said they aren't actively trying to persecute use of cheats, so it sounds like the main thing is to avoid doing things you couldn't have otherwise done given the time.

Okay, thank you very much for the replies! You've put me at ease. I'm still doing my best to go through the game thoroughly (exploring everything, all side-quests, all easter-eggs, etc) so I can have the best experience with Mass Effect 2 like I would have with my old saves, and now without having to redo all the achievements again. Whew.

One more question with this - Easy yes or No...

...When using the savegames provided (Since I'm starting to wonder if playing the game twice through, first on a speed run, second on a detailed scan to get to 60 and unlock all the hidden objectives) is it possible to change the appearance when using an existing save to start a new game? Probably not?

Nope, sorry. :(
