Cassandra seems pretty unanimous here. I totally see why everyone says she'd be the one to remain. However, I see someone else staying for the whole journey, unconditionally...

Solas! I know many of you would read that and think "lol wut" but I actually have a feeling Solas is going to be pretty integral to the main questline. We know nothing of him really, except that he is a Fade Expert, and going to be an invaluable asset when dealing with Fade matters. As that seems to be the main conflict (the main one, not solely limited to). So I can see Solas being forced to stay, whether he wants to or not (or whether the Inquisitor likes it or not).

However that's just speculation. If not Solas, then yeah I agree with practically everyone else. Cassandra's a keeper.

Hmm that is a good point, given closing the fade tears is vital to the story.

I bet you it's Cassandra because she'll be your first companion and if this game follows it's predecessors, then you can't truly get rid of your first companion.

Well, I agree with the apparent majority here: Most likely Cassandra, because she (like Leliana) would stick with (the Divine's plan for) the Inquisition (and close the Tears) no matter what kind of person the Inquisitor is, or potentially Cole, since he's got the most malleable morals and nowhere else to go to.

Varric's likely also really hard to get rid off, but since he isn't the narrator this time, I don't see why he'd stick around no matter what you do at all. On the other hand, I expect Sera to be the one we'd be able to ****** off for good by far the easiest. Everyone else should fall somewhere inbetween, I presume.

Is it weird that everytime I read a comment from you I see the user name as "twincest"?  Too much Game of Thrones I guess....

On topic:  I'm pretty sure the character we can't get rid of is Varric.

I get such a comment about once per forum, so I'm used to it. *shrug*

Reading through the comments, I'll have to add that Cassandra is by far the most likely companion that sticks with you. She's been advertised in every trailer, probably the first companion announced, has a movie dedicated to her...I doubt the writers would want the option of having her killed off in Inquisition, probably because she'll appear in future material.

The others definitely seem expendable.

Varric had his heyday as Dragon Age 2's narrator, but in Inquisition he's definitely more of a standalone, companion type. And he doesn't seem like he'll be willing to tolerate everything.

Blackwall's theme is sacrifice, so I wouldn't be surprised if he even has some sort of quest tied with the chance of him dying.

Iron Bull is a mercenary. Mercenaries are often the ones that can get killed off easily. He also seems optional and could probably be skipped or refused in the party altogether.

When it comes to Sera...from what I've seen in the Qunari Mage gameplay video, it seems like her death is definitely a possibility. Judging by what's written about her character it also seems that she can leave quite easily, or even refuse to join your cause depending on your choices.

Vivienne...I think depending how you play the Grand Game and who you side with will ultimately decide where she stands. I'm thinking if you side with Morrigan, go against the Empress, or even establish an Anti-Circle position it's possible she leaves.

Don't know anything about Dorian, Cole, and Solas other than their existence, but from what little I've read about Dorian it seems like he's both optional and can be killed off (that scene with Alexius looks significant. Maybe its possible to betray Dorian for more power?). Can't provide insight about Cole/Solas  unfortunately except that I can see Cole being sort of like Zevran, in that he attacks you and you have the option to kill him. The Last Supper speculation also suggests he plays a Judas role, so maybe multiple opportunities of dispatching him?

Looking at this from a gameplay perspective as well as story its most likely going to be Cassandra, she seems to be set up by default as a sword and shield warrior and while it is supposedly going to be possible to change characters weapon spec I have a feeling that her starting skills and attributes are going to lean towards her being a tank. Which makes sense seeing as every party (unless you really know what you're doing) needs a damage sponge to draw threat and  protect the more squishy classes, that and the fact that warriors work well with every other class.

Long story short I have a feeling that Cassandra is going to be there just to ensure that any player of any class can complete the game with minimal difficulty and micromanagement regardless of what choices they make throughout the game.

You just made me remember that the previous game always gave us the default tank as 1st companion (Alistair/Aveline).

I'd hope that the game would have more than minimal difficulty with only half a party, even if one of them is a tank.

So would I, but given that Mass effect 3 was a complete joke even on insanity i'm not exactly hopeful.

I feel like it could be Cassandra, too. But you never know. That's actually something I'm worried about (but excited for as well): that it will be so hard to keep a full party of companions. I mean it would be awesome for them to leave, but what happens when slowly your party goes away and you're left with just you, the final companion, and the dog. Because let's face it, the dog will be in the game. I understand that could be difficult to do, to get everyone to leave but I wouldn't be surprised if it's easier than before based just on choices and not something like Feastday pranks.

Especially if it's a character I'm not too fond of. Just from what I've seen of Cassandra (I haven't looked into her much aside from DA2 and a little backstory, I haven't been able to focus on the transmedia of her too much), she's not my cup of tea. Maybe it's the accent or the way she treated Varric in DA2. Maybe it's the hair. Maybe it's the overly aggressive personality, because let's face it, that camp isn't big enough for her aggressive personality and my Inquisitor's violent rage that will surely come out.

They've said that you can get rid of all of them except one. This thread is speculating on which character is mandatory.

The dev said it was going to be difficult to get ride of everyone (minus one), that is if you recruit them of course, some will be optional again.

Guess so, but the crux is i did not like Anders As much anymore sort of avoided him , but not nearly As much As i did with Tali in ME
Just did not like her at all Right from the get go, if there had been an option in ME1 to leave her at the Citadel i am sure i would have done so
So basicly she was on board but never got off the schip and only talked to her when i had to thru the entire trilogy minus 1 playthrough when i romanced her and boy What a misstake it was, not fun at all, just plain weird
( sorry talimancers)
Anders on the other hand i took with me on Some quests during DA 2 tho hè wasn't As fun As in Awakenings hè was quite usefull in battle

Hmmm, i am guessing it Will be either. Cassandra or Varric but then again i have been proven wrong before
I am guessing there Will be Some companion(s) that havent been revealed or Will be revealed that you meet allong the way
Like you did with Morrigan Leliana or Sten in DA:O , and it might even be one of them
Guess we have to wait and see

Ah ok, I haven't followed much aside from trailers and names of companions. Thanks for that.

Only reason I tolerated Anders in DA2 was that he was my dedicated healer, although my canon run did save him. But agreed, Awakenings Anders was a little easier to handle.
