Interesting.  It looks like I'm the only one who plays Hawke like they're a continuation of the Warden.  I'd assumed that was standard :P

That said, my five worldstates are very, very different from one another.  They're just very similar between games.  I have pro-chantry Templar and anti-chantry Elf Assassin, villainous Blood Mage and heroic Arcane Warrior/Force Mage, plus a chaotic good Robin Hood Duelist, and possibly a violent Reaver.  But my pro-chantry Cousland Templar led to a pro-chantry Hawke Templar, and my anti-chantry elf Assassin was followed by an anti-chantry human Assassin with Merrill as LI.  I actually thought that's what everybody did.

Now with the boost in maximum worldstates, I'm wondering if I shouldn't try opposite Wardens and Hawkes...?  I never did play Dwarven Commoner or City Elf origins to their conclusions.

It adds a level of depth especially if you do evil warden to a good hawke. Good hawke is trying to content with all the poor choices the warden made such as letting sophia go or seeing a drunk Alistair.

My PCs tend to be pretty close to eachother. Not exactly the same character but thematically they have similar values. It varies a little more with subsequent playthroughs but not a whole lot. The biggest difference I can think of within a single playthrough is that I had a Hawke that was "friends" with Merrill and she didn't want her to stop the Eluvian research in a world where I had a Dalish Elf that would have been horrified she was working on the very thing that ripped his world apart and killed his friend.

It might get a little more diverse with Inquisition though, as I have one planned out that will probably side with the templars where my Hawke and Warden sided with the mages.

I may do a good warden, evil Hawke, and pretend inquisitor is a reincarnation of warden. Then the warden could romanxe Alistar and inquisitor could be with Blackwall. (all of this if the story allows. Could explain why warden isn't shown and Hawke is.)

I have played both DAO and DAII for years, on multiple machines, and somehow on different BSN profiles. In each game, I probably have over 20 completed games and another 20 unfinished games. Strangely, I found my enjoyment of a game was influenced by how much I liked the way the Warden or Hawke looked. I know... that's a little strange.  That's why I have so many unfinished games -  I didn't like my avatar's appearance. At least in DAII, the Black Emporium allowed you to adjust Hawke's looks. In DAO, you had to start over. I did play with different states as far as romances or character attributes, but I always seem to side on the heroic, good guy side (or in my case, good girl side). And I did find that after a while, they all seemed to look alike and do the same things the same way. I still play each though, maybe with slight variations. It's like sitting down with an old friend, and its a pleasant way to spend some time. I think the keep definitely adds a new dimension with being able to track the states of each play through.

Don't worry about double-posting, the forums are hiccuping these past few days and making everyone double/triple post.

If you want to get rid of the double posts though, there's a "Hide" button beside the "Edit" one under your post. You can hide the posts from public view (put "double post" or something as justification), and only mods will see them in the thread.

I don't know about anyone else, but I find it psychologically impossible for me to make a fully-fledged "dark" universe with all of my "this is the worst option" options. When playing Origins, I tried doing a playthrough this way - got as far as Awakening before I dropped the playthrough out of disgust. I tried making one in the Keep, but even that is too distasteful for me to proceed with. I can handle a handful of individual picks in separate continuities, like a "Sacrifice" timeline with a sizable number of deaths or a "Demon" run with possessed people aplenty, but a full playthrough where everyone is left for dead, nobody has a happy ending, and villains are left alive? I can't bring myself to do it.

I like to differentiate my Wardens and Hawkes by class and gender, so for example if my Warden is a male two-handed warrior then my Hawke will be a female mage. But in terms of personality, they often wind up somewhat similar, if only because I'm the one choosing all their dialogue and always lean toward the choices that result in the best possible outcome. And my canon Warden is a human noble, so I play him and Hawke as reflections of each other: one started out living a life of privilege only to have his home and his family violently stripped away from him, then wound up living as a fugitive, constantly on the run and fighting to survive long enough to assemble an army and save his kingdom; the other started out in squalor only to have her home and (half of) her family violently stripped away from her, then wound up coming into a fortune and reclaiming her family's lost status, allowing her to defend the small group of friends and loved ones she'd formed from the wars raging around them.

I currently have four universes:

1. Canon (pre-sync) - The results of all my initial playthroughs and considered my main universe. Generally good guy" universe with strong but not strict pro-magic leanings. Loghain sacrifice with Alistair/Anora marriage

2. Pro-Mage - My more strictly pro-mage run. OGB Morriganmance with eluvian passage and Andersmance with anti-Qunari leanings. Probably my shadiest universe.

3. Nobility - Relatively pro-Templar, but mostly a "good guy" universe with eyes on the throne. FemCousland Alistairmance and Sebastianmance.

4. Sacrifice - Probably as close as I'll get to a straight-up downer universe with a sizable number of deaths. Aeducan sacrifice with both dwarven and human kids left behind. All other Wardens alive, however (counting Alistair, Nathaniel, Anders, and Carver).

A fifth universe, Demon, was scrapped shortly after I mentioned it above since it would get the bad ending with Inquisition anyway. <_<

I honestly don't think you'll get a 'bad' ending with Inquisition based on your import. I doubt they'd hamstring people that way. Different, yes. A bit more or less dangerous, maybe. But I doubt they'd make a situation that would screw over your game before you even started playing.

I meant more "I made a universe where everyone is deliberately getting possessed. This universe is doomed with the direction I've chosen for it."

Also, it was too close to my initial attempt as a "Scumbag" universe for me to feel comfortable playing. (>_>)

This is the reason why I didn't make all of my Hawkes into clones of my Wardens. Imagine if all of history's heroes had the same first name, and made all the same choices, lol. So, I switch it up. Like this.

Belorfin Tabris --> Jeffrey Hawke (warrior)
Jeffrey Cousland --> Victoria Hawke (mage)
Victor Surana --> Anya Hawke (rogue)
Darren Brosca --> Belorfin Hawke (warrior)
Duran Aeducan (ultimate sacrifice) --> ??? Hawke (I'm not sure I want to import this one)

They do have similar names, looks, and personalities, but I purposely rearranged them.

I never thought about it like that. Hmm... I'll have to start making my Wardens and Hawke's different from each other. I always wanted to keep the world similar, but I guess I can do that without being lazy  making them identical.

When I actually played through both games, I ended up making Hawke just like the Warden. Pretty pumped I can change up the storyline without a ridiculous amount of hours of gameplay. Still will never kill off the Warden though... Just can't bring myself to do it.

Why not different versions? Since it's about the journey, not necessarily the outcome that makes a character. :)  have three variations of the 'bad' universe where one is all about making those suffer, one with the sole purpose of having the most deaths and one with a 'beat the game as quick as possible' mind set, which tends to end up with a negative character.

*sigh* I don't want to have a fully-fledged "bad" universe because it bothers me that much. I tried a "bad" playthrough, and I couldn't go through with it, and even creating such a playthrough in the Keep makes me uncomfortable. Stop trying to convince me to go through with it because IT WON'T HAPPEN.

I have three main complete playthrough:

Mage&Mage:

  • Good Mage Warden (male, no romance): Alistair & Anora rule; Loghain kills Archdemon; kill the Architect; friendly goodbye with Morrigan. Pony and butterflies everywhere.
  • Humorous Pro-templar (most of the time) mage Hawke (male, no romance): side with Templar, killed the Arishok. Rivalry with Anders (didn't help him, killed), Merril (clan alive, mirror is broken), Sebastian. Bethany is Circle Mage.

Pragmatic Elf & Pro-Mage Templar:

  • Mostly pro-elf, pragmatic (sometimes evil) dalish elf: romance and DR with Morrigan; keep Anvil; poisoned Urn; sided with templars, Loghain is alive; Anora & Alistair rule; Architect lives; followed Morrigan through Eluvian.
  • Diplomatic Pro-Mage templar (male, romance Merril): side with Mages; give Isabela to the Arishok. Rivalry with Varric (keep the shard), Fenris, Isabela. Bethany is GW.

US Common Dwarf & Greedy Rogue:

  • Golden Heart Female dwarf (romance Alistair): Anora rules; Alistair with GW; the Warden did US. OW: Architect killed, Morrigan killed.
  • Aggressive Pro-Money Rogue (male, romance Isabela): side with templars in the end (Viscount title for money!!!); killed the Arishok. Rivalry: Varric (keep the shard), Fenris (return to Danarius), Sebastian.

Planned:

Noble Human & FPro-templar Mage:

  • Chaotic-Good Noble Human (male, romance Leliana): Alistair rules; DR with Morrigan; Loghain is dead; kill the Architect, friendly goodbye with Morrigan.
  • Pro-templar Mage (female, rival romance Anders): side with Templar, killed the Arishok. Rivalry with Anders (didn't kill it); Merril (clan alive, mirror is broken), Sebastian (return to Starkhaven). Carver is GW.

Blood Mages club (lulz):

  • Mad Mage 1 elf (male, no romance in the end): all evil decisions (muahaha), side with demons when possible (I think this warden is worse than the Blight itself :D). DR, Alistair on the throne, the Warden is Chancellor. Sided with Architect, killed Morrigan.
  • Mad Mage 2 (male, romance Merril). Support mages (blood mages) everywhere. Give Isabela to the Arishok. Sided with templars in the end to get Viscount title. Rivalry: Fenris, Sebastian.

Why does it matter if you were both chosen to be rulers of Ferelden if you don't actually become rulers?

Because the game flags Alistair as alive even if he dies when fighting the Archdemon.

Alistair came to visit me at Vigil's keep even though he made the ultimate sacrifice against the Archdemon.

As Jedi Master said, that's not in the Keep because it never actually happened. If Alister makes the US, then Anora rules at the end of the game. What Alister says at the Landsmeet amounts to a pinky swear that you'll be made Queen. You're also looking for them to add an option for an ending that wasn't present in DA:O. There isn't any ending where you rule as Queen alone because Alister made the US.

The problem is that the Keep forces me to choose "Alistair and the Warden were not lovers" or to choose "Anora was chosen at the Landsmeet" when she was not. I can not choose "Alistair was chosen at the Landsmeet," "Alistair and the Warden were lovers," and "Alistair made the US." There is no option for that, which is unfortunate because that's exactly what happened in my game.

The other problem from Awakenings and DA 2 is that the first flags Alistair if he was chosen at the Landsmeet (he's the King now) even if he makes the US. It's a bug I had to deal with in Awakenings and DA2 that is persisting in a different way in the Keep.

That's a flaw in the the game. It shouldn't happen in the keep. The Keep also doesn't actually say "Anora was chosen at the Landsmeet" it only says "Anora Mac Tir, daughter of Teryn Loghain Mac Tir, assumed the throne in earnest during the Fifth Blight."

Whoever was chosen at the Landsmeet is irrelevant. What matters is who rules Ferelden. If Alistair was chosen at the Landsmeet and then perishes before his coronation, it's a meaningless technically that does not need to be included. The Alistair and the Warden were lovers option is a little confusingly worded, but it still basically amounts to the question whether they were still lovers at the end of the game.

When I play I try to change the character but the decisions are still the same - realising they're meant to be helping out people but have an anti-Chantry stance.
My original canon was Dwarf Commoner but once I played Dwarf Noble I changed my mind. Duran's a warrior and diplomatic given his royal upbringing so I decided to keep all characters alive if possible, did the Dark Ritual with Morrigan and slept with Mardy. Canon Hawke is a female rogue who started off Diplomatic when Bethany was around, become more sarcastic when she left to join the Circle and became more aggressive in Act 3. She rivals Isabela, Sebastian and Fenris and is best mates with Varric, Aveline and Merrill then shacks up with Anders and is staunchly pro mage.

I created a couple of other timelines. The darkest timeline is a female rogue city elf that screws over everyone and gets Alistair to do the Dark Ritual even those she's romancing him. Dark timeline Hawke is a male Blood Mage who is heavily pro Templar and sends Fenris back to Tevinter and kills Anders.

The other timeline is called "Keeping it in the Family" having female mage Warden and female mage Hawke do everything by the book, pro-Chantry and Circle

No, you should report this as a bug with the Feedback tool.

edit: actually, I just attempted this, and the Warden was automatically changed to a Cousland. It takes a few seconds to set, but the logic checker is working on this one. Try going back to your Warden tile and seeing if he wasn't changed for you too.

I have my three main games that have been set up to compliment each other and offer variation, just incase there is ever a point where hero supergroup ever gets together. Therefore I have

Main: - Male Cousland Warrior Warden, dual wielding dervish of awesomeness (love this guy), Humourous Rogue Hawke (about my favourite Hawke playthrough), Female Mage Qunari who's going to be a bit aloof and grumpy as she's been persecuted most of her life for what she is.

Heroic: - Female Human Mage who US to save Ferelden and gave up her love Alistair so he could marry Anora, Pro Mage Warrior Hawke, who wanted to look after his little sister, Female Elven Rogue Inquisitor who will put her life on the line to save the humans despite their hatred of her people.

The Good, the Bad and the Elfy: - Female City Elf, played to not be keen on the humans, Evil Male Mage Hawke, pro mage, Will have a Knightly Saint Human Warrior Inquisitor.
