Go to the Tapestry, click on the Hero tile, click on the tile with the character's name on in it (which is right next to the Warden dead/alive tile for DAO or the personality tile for DA2), select uploaded hero you want, and click choose this hero. If the characters aren't uploaded....well that is a different kettle of fish.

My current playthrough: Granaze Aeducan - Tyrone Hawke - Valkyr Adaar

Granaze Aeducan

Granaze of House Aeducan, favored second child of King Endrin Aeducan, popular with the dwarves of Orzammar. After being charged by younger brother Bhelen for the murder of their older brother and heir, she was exiled to the Deep Roads. Her lover, Gorim, told her to find Grey Warden Commander Duncan, who recruited her into the order.

 

Unlike the naïve, sweet Alistair, she was not surprised by Loghain’s betrayal. She did surprise herself by falling in love with him and did not want to see his compassion destroyed by the burden of kingship. He loved her and wanted to remain a Grey Warden at her side. They opted to keep Anora on the throne, to Eamon’s disgruntlement. Possibly the only non-pragmatic decision she made was to let him execute Loghain instead of forcing the man to help them. This practicality and her survival instincts led her to adopt Morrigan’s plan, even if it meant letting the witch conceive a child with Alistair and later, entering into an iffy alliance with the Architect.

Tyrone Hawke

Tyrone, son of a mage, Malcolm & older brother of another, Bethany, sympathized with the templars’ difficult task even as he felt they sometimes went too far. He was patient with Carver, Bethany’s twin brother; a difficult task at times. He grieved deeply when Carver was killed by an ogre during their flight out of Denerim, which is why he didn’t take Bethany with him to the Deep Roads. He regretted that decision when the templars took her.

 

In order not to bring trouble to her, he strove always to be diplomatic rather than confrontational. Often he worked with his friend Aveline, now a city guard. He wanted a connection like his parents. Fenris’ rejection after one night & Isabela’s subsequent refusal to consider anything hurt more than he let on. Finally he realized the person with whom he could share his life was none other than Merrill, sweet child of the Dales.

 

She stayed by his side when he fought Kirkwall’s templars at the beginning of the mage-templar war.

Valkyr Adaar

You don’t trust the Qunari, who appeared like a tidal wave to the north of Thedas 300 years ago. You are Tal-Vashoth, a Qunari who has rejected the strict religious philosophy of the Qun and never even lived in Qunari lands because “I will be nobody’s pet slave”. You have earned a place within the Valo-kas mercenary company as its mage, ignoring the fearful looks you receive from those around you. Most recently the company was sent to the Chantry conclave, hired swords meant to keep the peace—a task that has gone horribly wrong.

 

You are angry that your group’s efforts were for nought and at first seek vengeance against those who slipped past you. You side with the mages because you don’t trust the Chantry either. In fact, you have spent your whole life in a cloud of distrust. Gods are for the weak and you are not weak. You also understand wanting to make a new life for yourself and find a kinship with the Grey Warden in your party.

Those were some fairly well written backstories/ descriptions of your playthroughs. I enjoyed reading them. Tyrone Hawke got around though. He sided with the mages then? Makes sense since sister and lover are mages.

I have to admit, I've had a lot of fun planning what Inquisitor I should use for each world-state and then what their personal history is like. Summing up the previous characters was fun, making sure I gave them my own spin, but building on the bare bones of what Bioware gave us for the Inquisitor is even better.  It's probably a good thing we only have limited space in the Keep to create our own story for each hero,  .
