@TheOneTrueBioticGod I might gave to rethink which class to use in that case. How exactly does the balancing work? Like if I use an assualt rife, my recharge on powers is longer than if I use a pistol, regardless of class?

Anyone else playing this on PS3 btw?

It's a weight system. A Widow sniper rifle weighs a lot, so your recharge time will be something like +20%, while if you carry something light like a pistol, the recharge time is -200%. I'm pretty sure different classes have different weight limits, so an Adept can carry a lot less than a Soldier, but can still use any assault rifle.

I'm on PS3, actually.

1. I've heard you can basically kill off all of your old squadmates. I've been mostly renegade the first two games, but is it satisfying at all to do that? and is it possible for all of your squadmates to survive?

You're importing, right? Loyalty will determine survival for many of the squadmates.

Hey guys. I bought the mass effect trilogy a few weeks back and I've been straight up addicted to it. I've already beat the first couple of games and done all the sidequests and dlc for them, but before I start the third game I've got a few questions

Please don't spoil anything for me though!

1. I've heard you can basically kill off all of your old squadmates. I've been mostly renegade the first two games, but is it satisfying at all to do that? and is it possible for all of your squadmates to survive?

2. What's the best way to pace out the dialogue with your crew? I was used to talking to squadmates after every mission in the first game, so on me2 by the end of the game most of my squadmates had ran out of things to stay on the normandy.

3. Can you continue playing the game after the ending? And when is the best time to download the citadel dlc?

4. There's been so much talk about the ending of the game. I've even heard one person say it's so bad that you should stop playing before you get to some beacon and just imagine your own ending. Is it truly that bad?

5. Should I ditch ashley for liara? That scene at the end of LoTSB where shepard says "come back soon" was easily the most depressing scene so far. Only time I've seen shepard look sad.

6. How do you cope with series ending? Hahaha

1) Yes it's possible for most of the old squad to die due to your actions.  Loyalty in the second game is a key factor for several of them.

2) You'll probably want to talk to your crew after every "Priority" mission, at least.  Though they may have a comment after certain side missions are completed as well.  Also, check the Citadel when you're there.  Your crew goes ashore now too.

3) No, the game shunts you back to a point before the endgame begins.  Citadel is best done at any point after you have locked in your romance.

4.  Yes.  It is truly that bad.

5 That's up to you.

Gotcha. This means that most of your squadmates will survive ME3. Others' fates depend on other ME2 or ME3 choices; describing them would be spoilery, of course.

In general, I found that the NPC death I've seen were satisfying if my Shepard intended them. Deaths that resulted from Shepard bring incompetent, not so much.

As for MEHEM, you should play unmodded first, if only to see what all the fuss was about.

6. How do you cope with series ending? Hahaha

1.  There are only a couple of squadmates that Shep can personally kill.  For the rest, it's some calculation like "if you did (or didn't do) X in ME1, and Y in ME2, and Z in ME3, then squadmate will live (or die)."  And of course it's possible to have a lot of squadmates who are already dead from the first two games.

2.  I just talk to everyone after every mission.  They usually have something to say, although it's also usually quite brief.

3.  Not like in ME2.  You can of course start a new game or play multiplayer.

4.  I just finished ME3 for the first time a couple of months ago, and I thought the ending was good.  Not great, by any means, it definitely has problems, but certainly not the abomination it was made out to be.  I did have the extended cut and Leviathan DLC to soften the blow.  Having watched the pre-EC endings on youtube, they were definitely worse.

5.  I've completed a trilogy romance with Ash but not yet Liara.  Ash's romance was ok.  I would have liked more content, but that's a fairly universal complaint about all the romance options.  Follow your Shepard's digital heart.

6.  I go back and play it again.  And play multiplayer.

Lmao @ "copious amounts of liquor." I don't know all the specifics of the geth decision, and I don't want to know. I do know, however, that I'm going to keep the geth on a short leash. I'll try to make a quarian-geth peace work, and if not, i'll blow the geth all to hell without hesitation because they tried to kill me way too many times in me1&2.

Without spoiling too much, who replaces mordin as a squadmate? I'd like to know that before i make a life or death choice lol.

You guys have all been more than helpful so far. I have a feeling I'm gonna hang around on this forum even after I beat mass effect 3.

Couple more questions for yall.

1. I played the last few side missions, as well as LoTSB and Arrival, on Insanity and did pretty well. How much hell will I be putting myself through if I make my first playthrough insanity?

2. I only have enough on psn right now to buy either the leviathan dlc or the prothean squadmate. Which dlc is better to have first?

3. How's multiplayer? I'm pretty damn pumped about being able to play as other species.

1.  No idea.  After I finished ME1 on insanity I decided to never ever do that again, so I stick to veteran/normal in ME2/ME3.  If you're really worried about it, play multiplayer for a while and the single-player will seem ridiculously easy in comparison.  Also keep in mind that if you import a level 25 character from ME2, you start ME3 at level 25 as well.

2.  It's comparing apples and oranges.  Leviathan is a series of side-missions, fun to play, with a good amount of lore about the ME universe.  The From Ashes mission is just one side-mission, fun enough but nothing too exciting; however, then you get a prothean squadmate (for combat purposes he's an adept with an assault rifle) to take with you on any of all of the other missions and to converse with on the Normandy.  Which of those sounds more appealing to you?

3.  I'm enjoying multiplayer.  You can't play as a hanar or an elcor, but you can play as pretty much any other species.  Even a wee roly-poly volus.

1. Every squadmate can die, but I don't think it makes your experience in ME3 necessarily better. Garrus, Kasumi and Samara for example have no replacements in ME3 if you have killed them in ME2. Other characters (Grunt, Legion) are replaced by relatively generic figures. The only character I deliberately killed in ME2 was Tali (you get Admiral Xen as a replacement, who is rather entertaining). In ME3 you can only kill all squadmates if you're going to the final mission badly unprepared.

2. As others have already said, talk to everyone after each mission

3. No

4. The extended cut made the endings...tolerable, but just barely (imo). And the epilogues are not bad.

5. That's very subjective, of course. Personally, I think Liara's romance is the most fulfilling in the triology.

6. Some people like the endings, maybe you're lucky :)

Well, discussing what it is, and why it is, would by definition be a mass of spoilers.

Just make sure you get Javik. One of the best squadmates in the trilogy (easily). Download Extended Cut and Leviathan. Play it and make up your own mind on the ending.

Don't you think they should experience the Original Ending first? If only to see the game in its unspoiled form?

1) I've seen people complain that even Insanity is easy in ME3. I can't comment on what constitutes difficulty to you, it's best if you try it out yourself.

2) If you're into the lore, Leviathan answers all of your questions regarding the origin of the Reapers. Personally I find Leviathan boring as hell. Too much chatter, very little action. Same reason why I love Omega - no time for chit-chat, all action.

Javik is a priceless squadmate, and you can have him from pretty much the beginning of the game (after the Turian moon mission). The mission itself is average, but you get to see the Protheans against the Reapers and witness their last few minutes.

3) I hate all things multiplayer so I'm not qualified to answer that.

All my squadmates were loyal and survived.

Depending on what you do in ME3, all ME2 squadmates can die in ME3 whether they're loyal or not. I won't spoil it for you. Just know it can be done.

Yeah, while technically impressive for a mod, it (IMO) does nothing to actually fix the problems with the ending. Too much sugar, not enough substance.

Now, there's a MEEM out there which actually tries to change the substance of the ending, but it may or may not be abandoned at this point. Believe me, I was all over the "retake" thing, but I'm good enough with the extended cut. I'm not so distraught by the choice we have to make as to seek refuge in a saccharine non-canon fan ending.

Meaning the pre-EC version? I dunno... better to watch that on YouTube, I'd say.

6. How do you cope with series ending? Hahaha

1. There are some characters that can die but only if you're a total dick to them. But most of the time some of the deaths are avoidable. (Won't say much without spoiling too much.)

2. After every non-N7 mission they'll have something to say that plays into the central plot. The dialog is much more engaging and more well paced than in ME2 in my opinion.

3. It's over after the ending so the best way to download the DLC is right away. But I will say this, save the Citadel DLC until the second to last mission. (You'll know when that is)

4. It's fixed with the Extended cut. It's not happy entirely but if you play your cards right and get enough Effective Military strength, you'll feel like the journey was worth it. It's a bittersweet triumph just so you know. (And I will say that the Leviathan DLC prepares you for the ending and it has it make more sense so be sure to get it and play it.)

5. I've been a Liara fan from day one so I would personally say yes. But that's up to you. Some people like Ashley. Others just love Liara.

6. If you had the Extended cut, you'll feel like the ending was alright. It's bittersweet, but it fits the setting in most respects. Once it's over, go ahead and play through the trilogy again with some variations. (Perhaps a femshep walkthrough)

"Unspoiled" is an interesting description. It's like going out and traveling a long distance to buy a laptop and then skip the update that keeps it from malfunctioning just to see what it's like, when I could just see someone else suffer the malfunction through YouTube.

I don't hate anyone enough to tell them that.
