Hey guys. I bought the mass effect trilogy a few weeks back and I've been straight up addicted to it. I've already beat the first couple of games and done all the sidequests and dlc for them, but before I start the third game I've got a few questions
Please don't spoil anything for me though!
1. I've heard you can basically kill off all of your old squadmates. I've been mostly renegade the first two games, but is it satisfying at all to do that? and is it possible for all of your squadmates to survive?
2. What's the best way to pace out the dialogue with your crew? I was used to talking to squadmates after every mission in the first game, so on me2 by the end of the game most of my squadmates had ran out of things to stay on the normandy.
3. Can you continue playing the game after the ending? And when is the best time to download the citadel dlc?
4. There's been so much talk about the ending of the game. I've even heard one person say it's so bad that you should stop playing before you get to some beacon and just imagine your own ending. Is it truly that bad?
5. Should I ditch ashley for liara? That scene at the end of LoTSB where shepard says "come back soon" was easily the most depressing scene so far. Only time I've seen shepard look sad.
6. How do you cope with series ending? Hahaha
1. I think you'd have to do almost everything "wrong" - i.e. skip a lot of missions and/or make choices that result in the fewest War Assets (you'll learn what these are) possible - to get *everyone* killed. Without giving away a whole lot, two ME1 squadmates can die if you make decisions that they're going to hate (you'll know these when you see them), one can die in the middle of the game if you pick certain non-optimal dialogue choices and/or your Paragon/Renegade meter is low, and two others - if they made it to ME3 alive - can only die in a certain scene near the end if your War Assets are very low.
2. It varies, but most of them have some new dialogue after a major mission is completed, and sometimes they'll be talking to each other when Shepard walks by. I'd say just make the rounds after each mission if you don't want to miss anything, as certain conversations are mission-specific and will no longer be available if you wait too long. If they don't have anything to say, they'll just give you a generic "Hi, Shepard" or something like that.
3. No, the end is the end. IMO, the Citadel DLC is best played as a sort of alternate reality by loading one of your most recent saves from just before the ending - I find it a little too goofy and self-indulgent to be taken as part of the "canon" universe - but I may be in the minority on that. If you want it to be part of the main game, I'd recommend either right after it becomes available or right before the end.
4. With the Extended Cut, I'd say no, it's not *that* bad, and IMO it should be a little easier to swallow for Renegades. It's weak, and it's especially frustrating for Shepards with certain viewpoints, but it's at least worth seeing what happens even if you want to imagine your own ending instead. There are some mods out there, I think, and a fair amount is open to interpretation either way. Definitely make sure you play the Leviathan DLC missions, though.
5.
6. By getting in endless arguments about it on these forums.
