Saw this thread on Sherdog, thought it might make a good thread here too.

We've all been there, listening to the hype of the media, friends and what not and bought these games that were suppose to impress us, yet we never finished it, and we probably never will.

For me these games are the following: Allan Wake, Borderlands 2, Bioshock, any Final Fantasy game, L.A. Noire, Psychonauts, Jade Empire, Fallout 3, Baldur's Gate (before I get burned for this one I'll try to explain).

It's not that I tried, I have, but I end up getting bored so fast I just stop playing it.

About Baldur's Gate, I loved it initially, and have about 44 hours played. I actually had it when I was young, but my English was no where near good enough to understand it. The rules are fun, and the graphics still hold up. But it just lost me in the end, got too boring and felt like doing the same over and over again. I've heard good stuff about Baldur's Gate 2, though. Might try it out.

Strike Suit Zero. The Difficulty got way too ridiculous about halfway through. A fun game, but the lacking checkpoints and the twitch reflex required killed it for me. I tried about 10 times, no dice. Neverwinter Nights 2. The Original Campaign kinda bored me, and Mask of the Betrayer kicked my ass in terms of combat. Legend of Grimrock. Very fun game actually, but the levels got repetitive. Quit around level three. Hotline Miami, about the same reason as Legend of Grimrock but far more torturous. The Entire Divinity Game Series. It eventually got somewhere between tedious and bland. Darklands, but only because I couldn't find out how to start the main quest.

Dragon Age: Origins.

I finished it but not before a long hiatus at a certain point in the game, which was when I got my party (and me, essentially) to a ridiculous amount of power. From there, I could faceroll the majority of fights in game on Nightmare with a few difficulty spikes in the way, namely the Archdemon. Killing trash became so tedious that I had hoped for the actual story part of the game to come through.

Shin Megami Tensei 4 suffers from the same problem.

Lost Odyssey

I heard good things, but I just got bored.  I've played plenty of turn based combat games, but for some reason this game just didn't do it for me.

EDIT: Thank you Sleepy Somnus, I'd like to add the Witcher as well.  I most of the way through the first act, but I just couldn't maintain my interest.  Funnily enough, I enjoyed the sequel and plan to get the third.

The Witcher.

I just couldn't get into it and I didn't really care for Geralt.

Mark of the Ninja. Holy ****, that game got praised so much. It even made it to a bunch of top 10 games of the year lists when everyone was on the 'indie games are the future' bandwagon and platformers with distinctive art styles were sprouting out like mushrooms.

I got it with some humble bundle, weren't for the Steam trading cards, I wouldn't have played it at all. I guess the stealth mechanics are good for people who thought Splinter Cell started with Conviction and Metal Gear with Revengeance. :D

Alan Wake - While the story, characters, VA's and music were good I was put off by repetitive and clunky combat, copy/paste locations (basically sawmill, forest, town appear over and over again, with a bridge, tunnel or lighthouse thrown in here or there). Also, the characters' faces looked messed up and this game has some of the worst lipsynching I've ever seen (It's like the characters are constantly trying to yawn while talking).

Shadow Warrior (2013) - A decent shooter/hack'n'slash that's fun for like 5 chapters. But after that it gets extremely repetitive as same enemies appear over and over again, rushing in hordes every 10 steps you make. The boss fights look nice visually, but require the same tactic every time, which makes them more tedious than challenging. Eventually, it felt more like a chore to play and I just lost interest in it.

Witcher 1 - Awful combat and bad voice acting were terrible enough so I stopped playing after completing the prologue and arriving at some village. My friend said the game has a slow start, but gets much better after the first two chapters. I just couldn't carry on anymore, sadly.

RE 4 (PC) - Can't get used to tank controls and awkward aiming.

Metro 2033 - extremely broken stealth and very aggressive enemies, coupled with stupid companion AI made it near impossible to play. Quit at the part where I was supposed to escort some guy through an area full of suicidal slugs but he kept on running into them. Hopefully the upcoming Redux fixes theses issues.

Far Cry 3 - Really didn't like the protagonist and couldn't care less about his friends or the idiotic natives. The story pretty much shat itself the further it went. Vaas appeared too few times.

The Witcher - I adjusted to the combat but still did not like it, got into a patch where it was full of fetch quests.

Skyrim - Played the hell out of the game because of being a bit of a completionist and like is predecessor I suddenly stopped scratched my head and asked myself, now what was the main quest again?

Red Dead Redemption - Hated the save/restart after death dynamic.  Game was good for the most part but I simply don't like games in which you can't save when you want and load when you want.

Dark Souls - The game was simply too tough for me.  I am past the point of beating my head against the all 100 times and replaying whole sections because I have not figured out how to beat a boss blocking advancements.

Bioshock Infinite-Got boring very fast plus the combat was underwhelming, stopped at playing at 13 hours

Borderlands (both games)-booooooring ^, couldn't manage more than 14 hours

Civ V, liked IV better.

Far Cry 3, Awful story, most of the characters are just underwhelming and endings are well bad simply speaking.

Starcraft 2, usually blizz crap so not surprising but why does it even have single player anymore since multiplayer is the only somewhat entertaining part of it and it's only redeeming point form being utter sh!t.

Max Payne 3. Too much cutscenes to hide insanely long loading times, Max as a character was butchered and story was meh.

Ass Creed IV- better than 3 but couldn't keep me interested for more than a few hours, probably because of the same crappy combat that's been in far too may games already, tailing quests and and all such meaningless and boring sidequests.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. fun combat but too over the top, just flat out bad dialogues, characters and plain silly.

Witcher 2, everything in the game just didn't feel right playing. The combat was bad in my opinion, too clunky and cumbersome for my liking. Combined with some irritating glitches with my copy, it killed my will to play it.

AC4 - I think I didn't even complete a fourth of the game. I just felt bombarded by tutorial after tutorial for hours and there was no story that compelled me to keep playing.

Kingdoms of Amalur. I kept getting told how amazing of a game it was in its huge world, but it felt so generic and cheesy, I could barely get past the opening levels.

Also, any Final Fantasy game after 6 (barring 10).

Darksiders 2.  Its not that I didn't like it , it was because my mind was focused on other games at the time, I just traded in the game for store credit. I might try playing it again in the future.

Duke Nukem. After about 2 hours of playing I traded it in for something else. A waste of money and time.

Same here, although I do plan on getting back to it again at some point.

Others:

Torchlight - I saw so many posts/threads about how much fun it was when it first came out. I grabbed it on sale and played for a couple hours, then quit. Bored me to tears.

Hotline Miami - played for an hour or so, then though "Why am I playing this? I'm not having any fun", and left it at that.

VVVVV - just didn't like it.

Uncharted - *chuckle* I did research when deciding on this game, and I missed the mark completely. :pinched: Really should have looked more into the actual "gameplay" mechanics. **P.S. - I hate stealth.

Assassin's Creed 2 - Never played the first, and it was given as a gift. Not good at timed events, when I have no idea what the hell I am doing. Got frustrated and confused, so I quit.

Witcher 2 - Didn't play the first, but read that it would be fine to just play the second game. I didn't mind the characters, but I couldn't get past the game play. And I had a few weird glitches. Just gave up.

Oblivion - Actually played this game quite a bit, but apparently I was into unnecessary pain and suffering at the time. I can't play first person perspective games (never have been able to), and you just can't fight well enough in third person, in that game. Add to that, just like others have said, I forgot what the hell the main story was....

Final Fantasy 10 - Never played a FF game before (or since). I admit, I am not a huge turn-based fan, but that wasn't what "turned" me off. The damn 20 minute cutscenes every two minutes. :P yes, I exaggerate, but that is what it felt like. It seemed like I never really needed to "play". Game was too busy showing me a movie. I do admit, that I didn't play for very long, so the cutscene numbers may have decreased eventually. Just too bored to find out. *shrug*

Persona 3 - but I finished it recently. I can confirm that it was, after all, awesome.

Tales of Xillia - I'm maybe 20% through the main story. I don't stop playing games on purpose, it's just that something usually better comes up. It was a case of Xillia versus Killer Is Dead and Spelunky.

Pikmin 3 - I actually stopped playing because I lent it to a friend the same day I got SM3DW. I like it, I just haven't gotten back to it yet.

Xenoblade Chronicles - again, I didn't mean to stop, but I had to change the batteries for my Wii remote often. I bought a classic pro controller and made alot of progress. I'm probably 10-20 hours from the end now, but I had to change batteries again, and I just ended up putting off buying new batteries, so. I'm definitely gonna revisit and finish it before XCX comes out.

Thought I had to smite you there for a sec by including Xenoblade and Persona 3.
