Supposedly awesome games you stopped playing halfway through.

Baldur's Gate - between coming from REAL turn-based D&D combat (SSI's games) and this game's rather extensive exploration and slow initial pace, I kept losing interest shortly after leaving Candlekeep. Finally got around to finishing it a few times after Tales of the Sword Coast was released.

KOTOR II - I love KOTOR and was looking forward to playing this game, but it starts with a lot of negativity; nothing goes right for my character. I stopped playing because it was not making me feel better after a long day at work. I might try again someday, when I have a week off.

Dragon Age II - there was a distinct lack of motivation somewhere toward the middle of the game where I had to force myself to finish. The convincing argument was "there is still new content I haven't seen, so I gotta finish it at least once." I haven't replayed it since but plan to eventually.

That's it so far. Have been fortunate to not have this problem with most games in my library.

Far Cry 3 - Fun at first but I gave up on it pretty quick.

The Witcher - Didn't really enjoy it.

Skyrim - Even with mods it felt like there was nothing to do.

Resident Evil 5 - Stopped after about 6 hours.

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines...

I don't know... it just wasn-

BAHAHAH Yeah, f*cking right I'd stop playing that piece of genius half way through, what am I? A imbecile!? xD

I stopped playing this game as well.

Not that I dislike it or anything, but about 3/4 of the way into the story my computer crashed and I lost all of my saves. I have wanted to play it again, but I just can't seem to get myself motivated to run through all of the previous story again.

Maybe when the Antitribu Mod comes out.

Grand Theft Auto 5, and Fable are the only games that come to mind.

Borderlands 2 - Combat just seemed really tedious; you'd be surrounded by a lot of enemies, and it would always take forever to kill just one of them. Inventory management was a pain in the butt, and the game's 'zany' humor just never clicked for me at all.

Arcanum - It's pretty easy to design a character that will have no way to progress out of the first town; you can lose the game on the character creation screen without knowing it. With an incredibly clunky interface, a horrific map system and fast travel being available at only the most seemingly random points, I just decided it wasn't worth it to go on.

The Witcher - The combat system wasn't so great, the voice acting was pretty bad, and Geralt just seemed like a rather cliched hero.

The first Deus Ex. I recognize its good qualities, but it reached a point where I just got tired of getting lost and/or dying ten times in the same place because of the huge difficulty curve for the stealth approach.

I enjoyed Vampire, but I gave up on it too. About halfway through, even with a major bug-fixing mod, it was still really, really glitchy, and crashed a lot.

This makes me sad. Although it is very true that Arcanum is easily one of the easiest games to lose at CC screen, if also allows some of the highest levels of character customization in a game to date. I found it extremely rewarding to get a "broken" character to work, through all the extra tasks and support you need to find along the way. While you can certainly face roll the game with the right build, eeking by on a sub-par one makes you feel like a god amongst gamers.

Thought I had to smite you there for a sec by including Xenoblade and Persona 3.

Ha, casualties of the development/consumer paradigm established this past gen, sadly. I used to be a huge JRPG buff, too.

Deus Ex - Human Revolution. While enjoyed the first two games, this one just wasn't for me.

What a shame. Is there a reason why you didn't end up liking it?

Elder Scrolls and Demon/Dark Souls: Any game that centers on open world without much going in the narrative department gets about 20 hours from me before I decide I've seen all I need to see.

That was the other issue for me: Finding stuff. Sometimes, I would locate a quest item, and then when I would try to perform the seemingly trivial task of getting back to the person who initiated the quest, I'd get so badly lost that I had to reload. I'll be the first to admit that I have a terrible sense of direction, but that experience just wasn't for me. Different strokes, I guess; I love Alpha Protocol dearly, even though in a lot of ways, it's as busted as Arcanum.

I kinda agree with this. When you're as light on characterization as the Elder Scrolls is, it becomes increasingly obvious that the only functions of NPC's are to either sell stuff, give exposition, or initiate quests. At that point, I start to lose the illusion that the game world doesn't just exist for the sake of the player; as big as it is, it starts to seem like a bit of a toy world.

The original Bayonetta on 360. I didn't think I'd ever pick up the game so I watched the whole thing played on Youtube, then one day ended up getting it. I didn't get very far before I had to drop it, which was entirely my fault, tho I never did believe I'd ever pick it up.

Final Fantasy XIII. Beautiful game, but the turn based combat wasn't for me, so I didn't get very far before I dropped it entirely.

I loves that Arcanum threw you into the plot to start out, completely let to of the reins, and then had a ton of little things sprinkled throughout the world that, once the player made it closer to the end game, caused a ton of things to "click." A random journal found in a cave tucked under a box turned out to be a huge clue towards the person pulling the strings the entire game. Likewise to some of the religious texts, etc. The game succeeded at being equally a huge open world while also telling compelling stories... but I agree, it is insanely difficult to get right without dying a ton and getting lost isn't just likely, it's practically unavoidable.

Still, I liked it. In fact, his conversation may push me to check its price on Steam (or, possibly, GOG).

I stopped playing both The Witcher 2 and Planescape Torment.

I recognized both as brilliant games, and they were fresh experiences. But TW2 wasn't the kind of game I wanted to play. Twitch action and fixed, readymade protagonist. And PST? Well, at some point I couldn't get anywhere with my style of role-play. It became too much 'guessing-game'. Again not what I was interested in.

Similar experience with ME2. I soon realized the ME franchised had changed.

I could easily play all three games, and enjoy them. The only problem is that there are other things to do with the time that I find more rewarding.

Purposely done with Dark Souls. The universe has a huge very extensive and depressing lore, but it's hidden in dialogue, item descriptions, areas and plain speculation. You have a task to complete, that's your only goal and you need to complete it no matter how often you die, but you don't know why.

Half my game library.

Off the top of my head:

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - I ****** hate the wii mote and motion controls.

Xenoblade - It's a chore to go near my Wii U.

Darksiders 2 - preferred the gameplay and story of the first game and got tired of the fetch quests.

Diablo 3 PS3 - Waiting for the PS4 version.

The Last of Us - I'm too old and no longer have patience for resource management and sneaking around.

Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag - Got distracted. Game to long, to much to do.

Infamous Second Son - Like all open world games, story not strong enough, to much to do, got distracted.

Watch Dogs - Don't really give a **** about it.

There are a lot more game but I don't want to bore you all.

No shame in playing on an easier difficulty, especially considering The Last of Us.

On topic:

The Last of Us: I didn't like the protagonist at all and just was bored of another zombie game(or infected whatever, it's all the same).

Red Dead Redemption: Didn't like the save/load mechanism, the protagonsit or the slow gameplay

Oblivion: Played for a few days, got bored

God of War.

Why does anyone like that series?

It plays like an overly glued Ball joint.

Stiff, clunky, and ruins your transformers figures.
