Final Fantasy 13(i know it may not count as awesome as the fanbase was kind of torn about it)

I got around 28 hours into it(so pretty far lol) but i just hit a wall and couldn't play anymore. I realized i wasn't playing because i was enjoying it, i was playing it because i just wanted to complete it and get it over with. I decided just to screw it and trade it in. I got it back a few months later to try to push through the last bit, but i had the same experience. So i just completely gave up on it.

Grand Theft Auto 4 and 5

Don't kill me lol. It's not that it was a bad game, far from it. Just not my cup of tea.

LA Noire

Same as GTA 4 and 5. Just didn't grab me.

Oblivion, Borderlands, Any FF game save X, Metro.

Oblivion I count only because I lost interest in the actual game, but I would always mod the game and add new mods. That said I loved Skyrim and Morrowind.

Borderlands: I only got it because I was in need to something to tie me over until Diablo 3 came out, and when my friend at gamestop heard I never played it he insisted I get it.  I found the story lacking and once I got past Sledge I stopped.

FF: I got half way through 4,7, and 8 put them down and never picked them up again.  I won't play turn based rpgs any more, with the exception of pokemon.  I don't know how I managed to finish 10 but I did.

And Metro I've tried I just couldn't get used to it, and I think I would be very confused since I haven't played it in like 2 years.

Edit: Almost forgot, Watch Dogs is a strange aversion.  I got one mission in and knew the game was going to be bad, but I forced myself to finish it.  It was like a trainwreck in slow motion, I couldn't turn away.

If I get half-way through odds are I'll finish it.

Most games end at the 10-30 minute mark for me.

And I mean most games so writing up a list would be superfluous.

You're:

Forgiven for your lack of interest in GTA 4 and 5.

Exiled to Madagascar for not liking L.A.Nore!

I never could finish Dragons Dogma. I know there's some people that loathe fast travel but that game could of really used it. Too much walking back and forth gets annoying in any game.

Yeah. The "innovative" gameplay quickly wore out its welcome for me. It's a shame because I really wanted to like it.

Skyrim. While engaging in regards to building your character. The storylines are pathetically shallow and largely unfulfiling. No amount of incoherent wandering or dungeon crawling can fix that. Mods help the experience, but by and large I consider the game overrated.

Indeed, but I lament it.

I remember not 5 years ago I used to like more things.

I like very few things and my eyes are prone to rolling.

Muscle through it and/or turn the difficulty down. If you're on PC, you can probably cheat by hacking the 2DAs (and the engine is descended from NWN/KotOR, so there may even be save editors and such).

It's one of BioWare's best narratives. A wondrous adventure. Worth playing any way that you can.

Will disagree that it is overrated, but can empathize where you are getting that opinion. Skyrim is my first TES title, and it is not story driven. However, what it does extremely well is allow the Player to RP and craft their own stories using the ones in the game.

My first character, I made the error (IMO) to do almost everything on the first campaign. That left me with little untold stories to see, but a whole lot of content left unexplored. So I crafted new DB's with new personalities and backstories, and played for 700+ hrs. Then I added mods to aid me in becoming more immersed into the world, from visuals, mechanical changes, etc. And now sit at 2800+ hrs later taking a break to discover more stories left untold within me.

For a good example, try this series. If you do not care for it after this first Chapter, leave it, but I think the humor and stories are somewhat addictive like popcorn:

I found this series earlier from Gopher's tutorials and Skyrim Mod Sanctuaries, and highly recommend the Beginner's Modding series for tips, instructions, and mod recommendations.

FWIW, I do believe if you allow yourself the opportunity, you will have a lot more stories to explore within your own imagination.

Mass Effect.

The first one.

I was playing Mass Effect on Xbox 360.  However, the console burned out before I could finish the game.  It was struck by the the infamous "Red Ring of Death".

After experiencing the most condescending, frustrating and insulting customer service from Microsoft, I promptly returned the Xbox 360 to Costco.  Thank goodness I had the foresight to buy the Xbox 360 from the member-only warehouse club.  Costco accepted any return of any merchandize bought within a year, sometimes two, unconditionally and with no question asked. (Of course, one would have to pay an annual membership fee for that privilege, but Costco's outstanding customer service was worth every cent.)

After getting a full refund for the Xbox 260, I was not done with Microsoft.  I was super ticked off at Microsoft.  I wanted vengeance.

So I called up American Express.  I reversed all the purchases I had just made on Xbox Live.  (Words of Wisdom: ALWAYS pay with AMEX.  AMEX has the best customer protection if you ever get into a dispute with any merchant.  Thank goodness I had the foresight to made payments with AMEX; the Force was strong in me.)   I fully anticipated what Microsoft's reaction would be: Microsoft would "perma-ban" my Xbox Live account.  Not that I cared.  I had already gotten rid of my Xbox 360.  I had already decided I was done with Xbox.  I would never buy another console from Microsoft again.  Ever.  So, calling up AMEX to reverse all those charges was the final and most satisfying F-YOU to Microsoft.

A couple years later, I tried to logged back into my Xbox Live account on Windows.  Of course I got the "perma ban".  Microsoft had also sent repeated emails to my registered email account, prompting me to contact them ASAP to resolve some, oh you know, payment issues over some transactions I had made on Xbox Live.  Yeah, sure, whatever.  How about this, Microsoft: **** YOU.  I was actually laughing psychotically while I was reading those Microsoft emails, and putting Microsoft on my block list.  I had NO interest in receiving any email from Microsoft, ever again.

So.  That's what happened with my Mass Effect experience.  I've never gone back to Mass Effect after that experience.  I had actually planned to go back to the game on the PC.  However, things happened: EA bought BioWare, and then BioWare started implemented a new business model, (i.e., spamming high-priced DLCs.)  I decided that I was not (and still am not) interested in participating in that, IMO, exploitative business model.  So that's that.

Borderlands - I love the cel-shaded look, the soundtrack is fantastic and, I suppose, it might be fun in multiplayer mode, but it was the most frustrating single player campaign I've ever attempted to play.

Final Fantasy XII - Every single aspect of the game was incredibly bland.

Final Fantasy XIII - Suddenly, FFXII's blandness doesn't seem that bad after all.

:D *chuckles* Well, I expected some disagreement and I certainly appreciate your suggestions, but with respect, "Been there. Done that." Over the years, I've seen many of Gopher's tutorials and various playthroughs, so I'm quite familiar with his content. In addition, I'm not unfamiliar with various "Creation Kits", which led to me creating a couple of followers and a player home (in Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas). Likewise, I've been through several characters... None of which finished the game (Skyrim).

I will agree with you, that Skyrim allows you the room to engage your imagination and create your own narrative. Unfortunately, this is precisely part of the reason why I think it should have been branded an Action-Adventure game as opposed to an RPG. From my perspective, it provides the illusion of being an RPG, but in the context of the storylines, the player has very little to say and only affects events that lead to the end of a particular questline. Once you're done with "that or the other" storyline, that's pretty much it. So, yes, "you" can continue along the lines of your narrative and play whatever role you built for yourself, but ultimately, that's all it is.

On a final note... Trust me... I have a very vivid and robust imagination so immersing myself in a role or a storyline isn't a challenge. In fact, I'm so "real" about it, that if my character dies, I'll start the game over again... From the beginning. After the requisite rant of course. ;)
