The title says half of what I want to say. Depending on what direction the next Mass Effect game is taking, I think an appropriate nod to the original trilogy is to show something that has become part of the universe, such as the Normandy ship.

While this nod can be done via characters like Liara, Grunt (and maybe Wrex) I really do think the Normandy ship would have a much more universal impact. It also gives an opportunity for newcomers to get a glimpse into the Mass Effect lore.

As for how the ship is going to be presented, it should be entirely up to BioWare (obviously). But I will sprinkle out a few ideas regardless

It could be a wreckage you discover. Similar to the Normandy SR1 wreckage in ME2.

The ship can be parked in a museum/memorial located somewhere in the player hub for convenience. Clean and simple.

Despite my ramblings, I really would rather prefer BioWare to handle this themselves completely. Handling it the way they see best.

*Edit*

I am not suggesting a revival of the Normandy or using it as the hub ship again. It can come in a form of a broadcast, toy, location, anything really.

Seeing as how they said it's going to be completely separate/unconnected from the Shepard Trilogy, I'm thinking that applies to the Normandy as well. I'd prefer not to see it or any of Shepards squadmates. However, I wouldn't mind a few subtle Easter eggs....some winks to old fans of the series.

I rather doubt we'll see the Normandy, except maybe as a collectable model in the new PC's cabin, if they bring those back.

I agree, with the exception of the Normandy part.

I really do think if handled right, it can provide lore and insight for newcomers (and be potentially more interested) and provide some kind of nod for the fans. Maybe even making them nostalgic if they actually felt that deep.

Except then Bioware would have to connect the Shepard Trilogy to the new game, which they've said that they won't be doing that. People see the Normandy in the new game, they'll be wondering where it came from and where Shepard is etc etc....not such a great way to separate the new game from the old trilogy.

I doubt people would wonder where he/she is when the ship is a dead wreck or parked in a museum with NPCs yammering about how it all happened ages ago. But I can see where you are coming from with that.

There was a time when I hoped to see it in a museum or memorialized in the next game. But that was when I had dreams of having our major ME3 decisions imported into the next game (which is the only way I'd be happy with a sequel). But those dreams don't seem possible. So, if that's the case, I'd much rather it not even be touched. Let the Shepard/Reaper Saga stand on its own as the high level hero/villain narrative of the ME Universe... .and bring on something entirely 'different'.

I would always think of the SR2 Normandy crash landed without shepard pre ec so no I would not like to be reminded of that in a new series.

It was always a Cerberus ship to me anyway, a copy of the original and I could never understand the "it's good to be back on the normandy" from the old crew.

They never said that the original trilogy was going to have nothing to do with the next game. It just won't be connected or necessarily have any characters from it. I wouldn't call DAII to be connected to DAO, even if there's some similar stuff, characters, factions, and the protag came from Lothering.

I don't want the Normandy to turn info the Enterprise of ME. All I wantca big fat carrier with lots of guns and on board fighter bay. Something that say "Don't F-ck with Me"

Kinda like The Infinity from Halo 4 or an Imperial Cruiser from Star Wars

I hope you get that.

But I personally want my Enterprise.

Who knows - maybe like Dragon Age Inquisition's bases, we might be able to designate and design stuff of our own...

Maybe not the Normandy, but a Normandy-class ship? We know there was one other Normandy-class frigate at the time of ME2. It could look pretty much like the Normandy, probably upgraded visually and have a different name - but the layout of the ship would be familiar to the players of the original trilogy.

The frigate Normandy SR2 is sitting in a Museum somewhere on Earth. A well deserved retirement.

Visiting tourists particularly enjoy viewing the Captain's loft cabin.

The list of fallen servicemen/servicewomen found on deck 3 has been replaced with a list of all her captains, starting with the famous Commander Shepard.

They've said on multiple occasions it won't be connected to the Shepard/Reaper saga. (Most recently at E3 when asked about it being a sequel). Interpret it however you like. No one will know for sure until BW wants us to.

Yes. It won't be connected. I didn't say it was going to be a sequel.

If it is a sequel, I think seeing a glimpse of a parked Normandy when(if) you dock at an Alliance space station or at the Citadel would be cool.

If it is parked at a museum, there best be a TARDIS parked nearby.

While I don't think the Normandy should be a central element in the new game (it's Shepard's baby), a little visual reference would be nice to stylistically tie the new series to the old and remind players that Mass Effect is back (think the "Welcome Back" spray paint tag on Grove Street in GTA5).

I really don't see having the Normandy as a set piece somewhere is going to make everyone connect ME3 to ME4 not to mention you would think there is going to be a codec or two about what happened way back. I understand Bioware wanting to go a different direction but you can't completely separate it from the games that came before or just make it a new IP and be done with it.

It would be neat if we see the Normandy as a museum attraction.

Normandy is a powerful advanced warship i don´t see the Alliance puting it in a museum. It will still be in service in a alliance fleet.

I don't know if you're responding to my post (the way this one is worded, it looks like a response to what I said).

Anyway, I didn't say anything about tying ME3 into 4. It's about connecting the new trilogy (I'm assuming it'll be a trilogy) to the old one in style (as in, they have a similar spirit and feel) but leaving the Normandy inaccessible, because it's ingrained in the Shepard trilogy.

Like I said with my GTA5 example above, it would just be a little "welcome back"-style showing for returning players, similar to the Grove Street graffiti in GTA5 (which referenced GTA:SA). It's more about the sentiment and acknowledging franchise loyalty than anything. Relegating it to a simple codex entry sounds cheap.

It isn't going to be in service for ever, it'll most likely be out of commission after at least a century of use so making it a museum will be a fitting end for it.

Even the Normandy can be obsolesced, and humans love to replace old tech after just a few years.

I was talking based on a general theme I wasn't really replying to anyone. The Normandy in the new game as a nod to the original game would be fine to me but they would have to do something like a codex to explain it because more then likely there willbe a new fan base starting to play a new series of games.

Discovering the Normandy either crashed on a planet or forgotten in some ship yard somewhere would not have to mean that the Characters in the new game would know how important it is to us older gen players. It could just be like "wow look at all this junk" and their she would be reminding us all of the good times even though she would likely be in a sorry state. No need for a tie in with the new universe that Bioware are building because it would just be some ship to the new cast.
