I only buy games with manly male protagonists aged 20-40.

Lets not forget the strong female characters in A Song of Ice and Fire(and Game of Thrones the show by association), or the fact that this happened

Were it's totally arguable whether the protagonist of the series is a woman or not (depending on where you stand in the Daenerys plot importance camp).

Well, yeah that is debatable. What isn't debatable is that A Song of Ice and Fire's women and their strength is constantly brought up as one of its strongest pros.

Tomb Raider? Beyond Two Souls? TT: The Walking Dead?

I have all three, they don't sell and TWD was also Lee's story, so don't forget that and Tomb Raider didn't do "amazing" back in the day, but it wasn't anything special.  Beyond Two Souls did not sell well.

Mind you, I'm not arguing that they aren't compelling characters... I'm just stating from what I've viewed in regards to word of mouth, internet, etc - they don't "shine" in the sales department.

The Mirror's Edge reboot would sell more with a sexy man as Faith.

It would also bring more equality to a series blatantly dominated by asian young women.

Honestly, they just need to keep trying with female leads. The games sell decently.

What they shouldn't do, however, is try to force a game to have something when they know that they can do better trying something else.

There's a lot of people with vision out there. We shouldn't force people to change. Change will happen naturally.

Word... I just want to get the point across that there are many, many compelling female roles, lead or not, but in terms of recent "lead roles" and relation to sales, they haven't blown away, which sucks - but hey, it happens.  And I agree on the keep trying aspect, it will never hurt the gaming industry, nor should gamers not take a chance on diving into titles with this in mind.

While I hate the social justice police telling creators what to do with their content, I don't mind seeing Ubisoft raked over the coals for this. They provided the single most pig-headed excuse I've ever heard - they're too much work.

I'm a young, athletic, straight, white guy, but I absolutely can't stand most bulky white guy or stereotypical soldier protagonists. It's because the vast majority of them are boring, predictable, clichéd and more or less use the same template. These characters are also visually extremely bland and obviously unappealing. Sadly the majority of video games love these kind of protagonists, wether it's Duke, Jason Brody or every FPS game protagonist ever. The only example where they managed to create interesting characters from that base imo is the MGS franchise.

A female or at least unique or colored male protagonist makes the game more interesting. That's something even non character creator games(mostly JRPGs) do right. If they can do it, why can't mainstream western companies do it?

It's might be stereotypical, but I don't know many experienced foot soldier that look like Bill Gate. What make no sense are the hero of korean and japanese rpg.

ugh

Using a game that was exclusive to the Vita and only came out after the new installments to main consoles came out is a terrible, terrible point.

It would be cool to have a nerd win the war with tactics and cunning. Make that nerd a girl, and you'll totally throw everyone off.

But come on, why would a video game nerd buy a game like that?

I've heard great things about that game.

It's very rare for No Punctuation to actually like something.
