Hi all,
I have looked for a solution to this issue on this forum but have not been able to find anything. Possibly because it tis still quite young. My problem is as follows. On starting up Mass Effect I go through the usual Bioware logo stuff and come to a short movie of an Earth like planet. At this point everything slows to a crawl. The menu once it comes up is glacial in loading and almost unresponsive.
The problem is that I have previously played through Mass Effect on this exact PC with this exact setup.
The only thing that has changed since i played is that I have update drivers and only have 30GB free on my install drive. Otherwise everything is the same.
I updated my drivers just in case but this did not help.
Other games like Fallout 3 and Dragon Age Origins work find.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
S.

download a free utility called "ccleaner" and run the disk cleanup and registry cleaner. Then defrag your hard drive.

Sounds like a driver issue with your sound chip...you may want to check and see what sound processor you are running with (looks like "Realtek AC97 Audio") and get the latest driver for it...

Have tried cleaning out the registry and updating my sound drivers but that didn't seem to work either. I ran a benchmark type thing which said my CPU was too slow. Why I could play it before and not now doesn't make much sense but I will try a slight overclock to see if that makes any difference.
Thanks for all the help. Unfortunately it didn't solve the current problem

Just in case anyone else has the same problem as me I have found a solution. Disabling all background processes to do with media players. Once these were shutdown ME started working as intended.
