I like to keep a diversity and consistency amongst my playthroughs, i played as a human fem mage in da:o and then decided to be the opposite in da:2 (male warrior) I enjoyed this alot because i loved having bethany as a sister and companion and in inquisition I feel compelled to be an elven female mage but i'm hesitant because i don't like having too many mages in my party. BUT MY problem is that i want to be a male because i wanna romance cassandra or vivienne (one of them are bound to be romanceable for the straight male inquisitors) but i also want to be an elf because i feel like being a human in the past two games means i should mix it up.

Help i need suggestions!!!

also what is your inquisitor's gender, class and race and do you have any reasons behind choosing each?

I hear ya. I don't like too much overlap either, but decided to just swap around different types of Wardens. I'm not that attached to them. I'll just make a human male here (in DAI). Then dwarf or elf female warden.

The good thing about the Keep though is we'll just be able to swap things around much more quickly.

yeah very true, I liked my idea of a female human mage romancing alistair but didnt want to choose an elf because I felt it was a bit too cliche considering fiona and maric's relationship and a dwarf romancing a human just seemed to out of place for me so i just can't win really

Ha, I do the opposite. I make race and class themed playthroughs (ex. I have a mage themed playthrough with mage warden and hawke). Obviously I couldn't change the race in DA2, but I kept the same class and will continue with the race I picked in DAO for DAI (for dwarves and elves). So I plan on continuing that style.

I will pick gender once I hear the romances, hahah

I dont get it, so are you saying you plan on choosing a mage in da:i because you chose that in the last two games?

I go the same Route: I have two World States right now, a third One planned. I also avoid playing a human or save it until the last Playtrough. I also shift the Morality of my Characters from "Good Guy", "Conflicted Guy with good Heart" to "bad Guy".

State 1: Warrior World - gave it the theme of "Redemption".

My Warden was a Male Dwarf Noble and a good Person to boot. Hawke was a sarcastic Female and made a Grab for Power.

Inquisitor will be a male Qunari and intends to follow the Qun to the Letter.

State 2: Mage World - gave it the theme of "Pawns and Players".

My Warden was a Female Elf Mage and a Coward with a Heart of Gold. Hawke as an agressive Male and a terrorist out to weaken Kirkwall.

Inquisitor will again probably be a female Elf and try to fix what Hawke destroyed.

State 3 will be the Rogue World. I'm thinking of the Theme of "Conquest".

Warden will probably be a Noble Human Male eyeing the Throne. I plan on Hawke to be female and very kind hearted.

That Inquisitor will then most definitely be a male Dwarf and very much like Varric mostly out for Glory and Profit.

I like the variety in DA:I and I think many who have not done multiple play throughs would find value in doing so this time, so not much concern about what my first PC is. Usually default to a paladin male human warrior (will jump ship if I sniff arcane warrior, too bad ass to ignore). I also want to romance Cass and Viv.

Second play through as a mage would be Qunari female. Loads of things I'd like her to help me understand, also want to romance Sera except if she is race gated.

My Warden was a Female City Elf Rogue, my Hawke was a Female Mage.

I should probably go with Female Qunari Warrior, but I don't like Warriors much.

At present I'm waiting on information about origins for the various races and how that impacts my choice of class.    I'd wanted to be a city elf but that has been ruled out for all classes apparently and we are obliged to play Dalish.    I'm hoping that for human mages we have the option of having either been in the Circle or a long time Apostate, since we were able to experience both types in previous games.     There is a rumour that the human fighter/rogue has the background of mercenary.    The dwarf is from a surface clan so presumably has a mercantile background but could equally be mercenary or have Carta links.   Vashoth is the biggest mystery.   The name indicates a qunari that has never been part of the Qun, so second generation or more Tal-Vashoth.   We've never really been introduced to that idea before, although we did keep encountering qunari mercenaries back in Origins.   As for a Vashoth mage, how on earth to they keep out of the Circle?  Were they accepted by other apostate mages.   Was it like the Dalish, so long as their group kept on the move and didn't cause trouble, the Templars left them alone?    We have certainly never seen any Vashoth mages before; all previousl qunari mages have been collared members of the Qun.    This is why it is hard to settle on anything definite, since the information about their origins may require the need to alter the type of person I had in mind.

At present I want to play an apostate male human mage from a noble background as my first Inquisitor but I wait to see if this fits with what we're given.    If not, then I'll probably opt for female Dalish mage and go from there.

I usually keep my protagonists all male or all female though LI's may be varied.

Two of my fav playthroughs include:

1. Female Dalish rogue who romances Alistair who becomes king (I thought this would be great as she initially thinks humans are jerks but then falls in love with one (ironically) who has to break up with her later due to greater causes leaving her with nothing (no clan, no boyfriend, only duty). Then I play a female mage Hawke with a Fenris romance (irony again, mage hater falling in love with a mage who kind of fixes him). I am hoping Varric is romanceable by non dwarves cause I wanna play a female qunari warrior in the next installment.

2. Classic canon of mine: Male human noble with Morrigan romance and a warriormale Hawke with Isabela romance and accordingly a Cassandra romance with a Dalish elf mage (male)

I really would like to play as an elf or a dwarf this time around, but I am having a hard time rationalzing why a member of either of those races would be in attendance at the peace talks.

At the end of DA:O, as a result of the decisions that I had made throughout the course of the game, I was told that the dwarves of Orzammar had essentially severed all ties with the surface dwellers. Not that they were very social to begin with.

Similarly, the elves are treated with such disdain by the rest of Thedas that I can't really picture anyone taking them seriously as an Inquisitor. I suppose that does present interesting opportunites for role playing, though.

I guess I'm just kind of boring  I always end up playing a male human on the first play through, and then if I'm feeling adventurous, a human female hehe.

Edit: I liked the way, if you played a human mage in DA:O, it turns out that you are related to Hawke (cousins). It provides a sense of continuity  throughout the two games that you just don't get with the other race/class combinations.

I'm going with a human character, and since my canon for DA:O was a male human noble, it will be the third human character in a row for me.

I don't really see that as an issue however, because humans do make up the majority of the population of Thedas. Also within the lore of the game universe there also heroes from the other races, even if you don't play as them. Garahel, for example...

Mine is probably CE warden - Mage Hawke - Qunari Inquisitor. So that won't be bad at all. XD

I have over a dozen plays of DA:O and DA2 each so I try to play the same thing in both so I can keep them straight in my head. hehehe

The first time I played DA:O I played a Male Rogue Cousland so I think I would consider Male Rogue Hawke and a Male Rogue Human Inquisitor to be my 'canon" game. However, as I already stated I have many many plays of both games using different classes, different sexes and different races (in DA:O) and will most likely continue this trend in DA:I.

I think the Dwarf is a surface Dwarf because they are Cadash

For the human Inquisitor...

Since DA:O went the noble route and DA2 the commoner, why not aim for somewhere between those two in DA:I? Have the Trevellyans be minor knights in service to the nobility. They'd be more well off and respected than the peasants tilling the fields, but without title or a fiefdom of their own.

Like Ser Jory or Ser Cauthrien, basically..

Well, technically, Hawke was always a noble by blood.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if they go the Noble route again. In that way one can role-play that they knew politics - which is probably something that's gonna be useful.

Easy enough, if you play a mage, just don't choose too many mage companions.  Cass is a warrior and probably very likely to be available to romance for a male. For more of a mix, maybe an elf rogue?

I tend to play mages maybe 90% of my play throughs so I end up with a mage for both dao and 2, (mage works for me in 2 as I like Carver far more than Bethany) though I may change up their attitudes.

They could be a knight of noble birth who's family knows politics ;) :P

well the beautiful thing about the keep is if you are one of those people that always wanted to play as a different class/race/gender/ nut never could actually do it because of how accustomed you became to your usual protagonist, you could essentially make you warden or hawke different without actually playing the game again
