Just spotted an interesting quirk that's got me wondering. 

So my PC has been playing fast and loose with Al and Zev but it had reached the point where she was about to be forced to choose between them. 
Zev was at 70 Care so one more point and she's in trouble.  To help
remedy this I decided to take an easy disapproval hit with Zev by
kissing Al in front of him (I knew this would give me a -3 from Zev
from my previous game).

What I hadn't spotted before is that this public display of affection for Al can change Zev from caring for her to
adoring her, i.e. Zev is now at 67 Adore.  Has Zev just experienced a touch of jealousy that's made him realise he has deeper feelings than even he knew ? 

Either this some beautifully crafted romance/character development or I'm reading way too much into it and it's just a programming bug.   Very impressed Bioware, if it's the former

Zevran's approval is a bit weird -- you can sometimes get it to go one above where it's supposed to be (in a few play throughs I had it reading "love" before his personal quest). I'm not sure if it's deliberate, but I agree, it would be nice if it were. Sten you also get to "friendly" before doing his personal quest. It really doesn't make a difference, though; all interactions are the same. But it is fun.

Edit: If you try to raise the approval number by going to the tent, it will drop back to where it should be (care or adore).  The only way to avoid that is to raise his approval to 100 with gifts and conversation, but that probably only matters if you have it reading "love" early.

My guess is it's a bug. Never happened to me before. But the romances to tend to get strange and buggy.

Even if it is a bug, I think its a great one. Isn't all love a little strange and buggy at times?

Just because I have a lot of save games, I was able to try this (had Zevran at 69 care, Alistair never romanced). I turned on the Alistair romance, went through all the annoying things (getting his rose, etc etc), then kissed him in front of Zevran. The approval stayed at "care". My guess is . . . bug! But a very fun one!

Oh well, the dev team still did a great job on the romances.  There are definitely times when I want a dungeon crawl to end so I can get back to camp to see the next installment
