Racial restrictions, remember?
If he is an LI, I doubt a dwarf will be able to romance him

Well, I know one thing that wouldn't be able to be done in that relationship.

Love knows no boundries, or does it? First I have heard about racial restrictions for romances, I heard about gender restrictions but not race restrictions, will certain races be locked off from certain romance options? How many love interests are there in this game?

Love has some boundaries, it seems. Yes. No idea.
Basically, Gaider confirmed some amount of race restrictions with possibly some LIs, but we don't know how many LIs there are in the game and how many of those will have some amount of racial restrictions. A lot of fans are assuming IB has some based on his 'anyone he won't break' thing maybe restricting elves and dwarves from him (mostly due to animations), but its all just speculation at this point.

We know there are some kind of racial restrictions on some romances - see the Romance thread in the story forum - but we don't know how many romances there are in total, how many are race restricted or what the specifics are. Apparently BioWare have a chart, but they have yet to share it with us.
And if my dwarf Inquisitor cannot have Varric, I am totally aiming to #ridethebull. I will make many sad faces if she is too short for this.

So does this mean I won't be able to crush pelvises as a female Qunari?

I'm really hoping it's possible to romance him as a dwarf. If not I'll have to wait until my elf playthrough to be able to romance him and if that isn't possible... gnah, I just hope it's possible, I'm not planning to play a female Qunari anytime soon and female human is probably my 4th or 5th playthrough....

I hope you can, since that's what I plan to be doing!
As a general rule, I doubt any of the gender-restricted romances will also be race-restricted. From what I can tell, the restrictions are mostly due to number of animations required. A gender-restricted LI already has half the total animations required, so its likely that any race-restrictions would be done on the bisexual romances, in order to cut down the number of animations.

I took that as IB is the male bi sexual LI . * shrugs *

So some of our companions are racists? Hopefully we can quickly give them the boot; I don't want bigots in my Inquisition.

I don't see anything racist in not wanting to do someone who is not the same race as you.

I did too, I'm just reporting what others are thinking. Personally, I was looking forward to romancing him with an elf, who I think are the most likely to be gated out. (People keep saying dwarves due to height, but the restrictions have more to do with the number of animations. They have to animate the races separately so it's not exactly more or else likely that dwarves would be out over, say, elves instead).

from 5 up to 11.
So at least 5 companions have been confirmed love interests and at least 1 has been confirmed to be off limits?
Who are the 5 and who is the 1?

The (two, actually) characters confirmed to not be romances are Cole and Leliana.

5 specific characters have not been confirmed. But it has to be at least 5 for the "more romances than any dragon age game" statement to fit.
The (two, actually) characters confirmed to not be romances are Cole and Leliana.
I had no idea Cole was even confirmed to be a character but from what I had heard (never read the books) I would have thought he would have been a prime candidate for love interest (if he is indeed a companion)? Also has Leliana been confirmed not to be a romance or is this just speculation based on the idea that if she was a romance option in Inquisition it would undermine her love for the Warden?
