  • Alistair: All right. I've come up with one, a question that you can't answer.
  • Morrigan: Are you talking to me?
  • Alistair: That's right. You think you're so smart? I've got an academic question that I bet you won't be able to answer.
  • Morrigan: Oh, I doubt that.
  • Alistair: So tell me, then: what was the name of Andraste's husband?
  • Morrigan: This is a religious question, not an academic one.
  • Alistair: You're joking, right? A five year-old could answer that question. Do you not know more than a child?
  • Morrigan: I care nothing for your religion. And this game of yours is over.
  • Alistair: Oh, how the mighty have crumbled.

Given the conversation above, Morrigan doesn't seem to know even the most basic things about Andraste and appears to be ignorant. Or maybe she did know the answer, but decided to ignore Alistair because she takes him for a fool.

*shrugs*

The fact that she refuses to answer Alistair doesn't confirm that she is ignorant of the religion.

I get the impression that she is familiar with its tenets on at least a basic level. She may not understand all of its nuances, e.g. what caused the schism between the Imperial Chantry and its Orlesian counterpart, etc., but she knows that it's a monotheistic religion which preaches redemption through a personal savoir.

There are several occasions when she references Andrastianism:

statue of Andraste) "Fools. Praying for help from a prophet they burned and a god who has turned His back on them not once but twice."

(near the Chanter's Board) "Ah, the Chantry board. Yes, let us run errands for the betterment of mankind as well as a few coppers."

Leliana: What do you believe happens to you after you die then? Nothing?

Morrigan: I do not go sit by the Maker's side, if that's what you mean.

Leliana: Let me ask you this, then, Morrigan. What if there really was a Maker?

Morrigan: Then I would wonder why He has abandoned His creation. It seems terribly irresponsible of Him.

Morrigan: It simply suits my view of the Chantry that one of their devoted sisters should turn out to be so full of hypocrisy.

So I stole the idea for this question from Jewlie Ghoulie, but she gave me permission to use it for the Morrigan thread :)

For all of you Morrigan fans out there, what was the moment that made you really fancy her character?

I can't restrict it to one thing, so I will throw out a few:

  • Huge Claudia Black fan, so I was already won over just by the choice of voice actress.
  • The banter between Morrigan, Sten, Leliana, Alistair, and yes, even dog was priceless.
  • She's actually not as cold as some people make out. When I first heard the story about Morrigan's broken mirror, it made me realize that she is actually rather vulnerable.
  • Not a huge fan of the Chantry, and she is perhaps the only character in the DA universe who is an outspoken critic of Andrastianism. She calls it like she sees it.
  • The fact that we know next to nothing about her agenda is also extremely provocative.

honestly as soon i as i saw she was voiced by claudia black, i was in love.

then as the character develop, i just became fascinated by her and her motivations.  it took a second play through before I realized how manipulative she was (i was love blind)...now i have to see where this/her story is going to go

Completely off topic, but I am posting Scribbles' pic on the Morrigan thread because she has caught my fancy. I now dub her an official member of the Morrigan squad. Gonna be a little awkward, though, since she is friends with Leliana :P

Did Morrigan ever get an interview? If not she deserves one.

Nope. There is a short character blurb on the DA website which I am sure that you have seen.

The closest thing to an interview is the Game Informer article "Morrigan: Past and Future" from about a year ago: http://www.gameinfor...nd-present.aspx

I have a feeling that Bioware is being tight lipped about her because they don't want to spoil Morrigan's story. They've even been pretty sparing with the screen shots - only two to three posted so far.

Honestly, I'm kind of happy about that. I'd prefer to retain an element of surprise as far as her character is concerned.

I made one of these for all the companions and advisers. Morrigan may not be part of the main group, but she still counts.

From the dragon age confessions tumblr;

tumblr_moxmxaKvAW1r1hjuro1_500.jpg

This x100000 times

Had an Aeducan romance her.  He didn't slay Flemeth or do the ritual.  When he accused her of betraying him and she said, "I fought with you, and then the final battle came too soon and I did not want you to die.  So do not speak to me of betrayal!"

She said it with so much venom I hung my head, slunk down in my seat, and went, "Yes, ma'am."

Obviously, he didn't go through the mirror.

I'm glad only a male romance could go with her. It adds more to her character I think. Even if she considers you a true friend she still decides against it. But a romance is a whole different feel. And if you have a child with her, I think it brings out even more in her. I think it feels more real this way. Am I the only one?

Do you guys think she'll have much to do with the Inquisition?

Judging from her Appereances in the Marketing, yeah, she'll probably show up quite a lot. I'm not sure if she will behave friendly or antagonistic. Note, before anyone gets mean, antagonistic does not necessarily mean evil.

I agree with what you're saying. I think Morrigan is largely looking out for her own self-interests. She has an agenda which we are not yet privy to, and she'll do whatever it takes to see that through to its proper conclusion. If her interests mesh with the Inquisitor, she's a potential ally, if not, I could easily see her in the role of an antagonist.

Eurogamer collated all of the info. from the other day into a nice little summary (link below). In it, they quote Cameron Lee as saying "You'll see a lot of Morrigan in Inquisition," so here's hopin.

I was sold on this game once it was announce. I will buy anything bioware because I am a tool (I say it often and am not ashamed. I haven't been disappointed by any game of theirs I played--including DA2 ) for Bioware.

BUT, I've got to say...

"Seeing a lot of Morrigan!?" That's enough of a buy for me right there.

but I stand by that she and my Inqusitor can only mutually respect each other and perhaps have a slight friendship. I want her bond and sissterhood to remain only with my wardens cause I'm selfish!

Question for the day:

If Dragon Age were being made into a feature film, whom would you cast as Morrigan?

This sort of question has been asked before, but I'm curious to hear your responsees. Also, I'm a stubborn bastard and refuse to see the Morrigan thread buried :P

Claudia Black is my first impulse.  Unfortunately, everyone ages, but maybe it could be CGI and we just call in the whole original cast.  If it must be live action?  Mama Tarr from Defiance might work.

How is she manipulative? The thing at the end came as a surprise to her as well and (if you romanced her) she was completely honest with you about it.

Morrigan is the best man, I hope my warden shows up as her boyfriend in the new game. Or something, ****, that guy was totally love-struck.

Kate Beckinsale.  If she is considered too old then i would cast Keira Knightley with black hair.

I am not trolling. She is a traitor, remember that time she will abandon you right before you go to fight the Blight if you don't do her ritual? Don't get me wrong I found her friendship story really well done... too bad no matter how much she says she cares about your character if you don't go along with her scheme she'll abandon you to die out of spite.

That to me is unforgivable and she'll betray the Inquisitor again if he or she doesn't go along with whatever he new master plan is.

Fair enough. I take back what I said :P

Morrigan's agenda usually meshes with mine (I generally play pro-Tevinter, pro-mage, anti-Chantry magic users), so the Dark Ritual didn't really present a dilemma of any sort.

I will concede that at the end of the day, she is looking out for herself and her own agenda. Then again, aren't most of the npcs? If you cross the Chantry, Leliana will turn on you in the blink of an eye. Bioware has said that almost all of the companions in Inquisition can be alienated and desert you, so that's not something unique to Morrigan.

Oh, yeah definitely Keira Knightley. Just have her dye her hair black and voila! Morrigan!
