Stop asking to remove spiders already. If we remove every monster that is scary to someone from the game then we'd be fighting giant, fluffy bunnies and colorful Butterflies.

What do we remove next? Dragons because they resemble Lizards and some people are afraid of lizards?

No more Broodmothers because they creep every sane peron out?

Get rid of companions because players with social anxiety migh be intimidated by having to talk to them?

The whole point about giant spiders is that they are supposed to be scary. Most of them look alien and frightening and therefor make good monsters to fight (Except those jumping spiders with the big eyes. They are really kind of cute.). Are they original? Hell no, but by now they are alrady integrated into the lore of DA and it would suck if they suddenly dissapeared without explanation only to please Arachnophobes.

But RPG's can have nice spiders too! Not only enemies.

Also, that cloak was pretty sweet.

DAI shall feature the god of all spiders! A giant spider so large that other slightly less giant spiders crawl over its back and pounce on your party members to vomit other tiny spiders.

Oh my god. I will cry if something like this occurs. I could barely handle the monstrous spiders in DA 2.  :crying:

Spiders are our friends. They keep insect populations down.

That statement I think really depends on where you live, to me completly agree, but I am sure there are places in the world where Spiders are not our friends, and that place we call Australia because seriously, that land is deadly.

Fine, you don't want spiders? How about Wetas, Arachno-Scorpios, and bronto-lobsters?

There's plenty worse things BioWare can replace spiders with.

Ahh the Great Emperor Spiders of the deep roads and the bonepit.

Great times.

My god I'd rather shoot myself than deal with those things, sign me up for giant spiders pls

Ultimately : Giant spiders are alredy established in the lore, so I'm against removing them from the DA games and I'd be against removing Mabari dogs as well just out of principle.

Best of both worlds

Well that really sucks. Why are spiders so important in fantasy games. I'm not scared of them, their movements just make my skin crawl. Also, I would rather have frogs around to keep the insect population down over spiders.

I think the blame lies squarely with Tolkien on this one. Shelob, the spiders in the Hobbit. And since D&D drew heavily on Tolkien for influence, the rest of the fantasy genre kinda followed suit I think.

I couldn't say for sure though, but there's no denying the influence Tolkien and Gygax had on the genre. But most of the blame probably rests with Tolkien haha.

Giant Spiders are very popular in the Fantasy Genre because they actually existed on Earth, around some 300 Million Years ago.

It's just like with the thousands of giant Reptiles - everyone knows Dinosaurs, everyone loves Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs look fantasy-like.

...

Or it's Tolkien, yeah.

Whereas I'd rather deal with any other bug like roaches or scorpions than deal with a spider. I even preferred the children in DA:A.

strangely spiders "small ones" are the only insects i tolerate other than ants. i even once had to let a little spider cross a door threshold first when i almost stepped on it, man i could swear the little guy understood my hand gesture and me saying "emsh yallah" which is "come on, go"

never saw it again, hope no did step on it :(

I don't actually like spiders in real life, but pixelated ones don't bother me that much. Actually my house has a population of recluses in it. We have a sort of detante ... they stay in the basement and keep the cricket population down in the garage, and I leave them alone so long as I don't catch them upstairs where we live. It has worked out pretty well for about 5 years now. Doesn't mean I don't keep a sharp eye out though ...

Other terrifying giant spiders are set to appear in DAI. These include:

Brown Recursive Spiders: A giant spider that, once killed, burst open to reveal a slightly smaller giant spider! Must be killed several times before yielding a small doll junk item as loot.

World Wide Web Spiders: Lures adventurers in wasting vast amounts of time online by posting links to TV Tropes!

One Night Stand Spider: Takes adventurers out to below average restaurants, lays eggs in their skin and refuses to call the next day!

Amazing Spidermen: Terrorizes theatre-goers in Thedas with underperforming, lackluster movie sequels!

Will spiders be a romance option?

Not that I'm into that, of course... it's just...  er, uh, aheh... hold on... um... oops, brownies are burning in the oven, be right back...

XD . To be fair the spiders are the only enemy to make me jump in DA only because they make that loud "HISSSSSSSSSSSSS" when they come down. Blergh.

Hate spiders generally but in the last few months I've found myself becoming tolerant of them as the game draws closer, giving them a free pass whereas I'd previously have squashed them with extreme prejudice.

As I set one out the back door the other day (with a piece of paper to transport it on of course) I believe we shared a moment; me saving his life in exchange for the agreement that there'll be none of his arachnid brethren dropping in on me with that damn "HISS!" as I try to explore the latest cavern.

Pish! There are like 2 nasty spiders in Oz. Redbacks, just watch where you put your hands. Funnelwebs, just don't live in Sydney (which is good advice anyway :P ). At least our scorpions aren't deadly, we don't have any flies that like to lay eggs in your body, we don't have any assassin bugs that carry deadly diseases, most of our mosquitoes are disease free. The bug population in Oz is pretty friendly, scary looking but friendly. Now the snakes are kinda nasty.

It wasn't the spiders themselves, just that overwhelm ability of theirs and their unerring ability to go right for my mage.

Actually funnelwebs can be found in other coastal and inland towns in NSW, my dad was bitten between the toes by one but it didn't actually get him properly and he went straight to hospital (probably the only time he ever has after any kind of injury ever) and survived fortunately. As for mozzies, I'm overly sensitive but I went through four years of Ross River Fever Hell after being bitten by one so I wouldn't call them friendly, and I know others who suffered from that too. :(  Also termites, fireants, bullants... we do have some nasty insects (admittedly termites are more deadly to houses but it still hurts the wallet and the house dealing with them). The snakes I agree are really nasty though. (And agree on the advice for Sydney too.  :P)

In RL as long as spiders stay outside (and aren't funnelwebs) I let them be but if they come inside they get up to half a can of insect spray and the heaviest object or shoe I can find if I can't get someone else to kill them for me in the first place. :D For games I usually like to just mod spiders out. I play games as a distraction and to get away from whatever I'm dealing with in RL so I can handle the fantastic monsters it's the ones that are like my biggest hate in RL I have trouble with which is why I get mods so I hope someone manages to mod them out in the future and in the meantime I think I'll play all caves in tactical view and send whichever companion I like least on ahead to reveal the spiders for me. I think it's having them suddenly drop down on the party that's the biggest problem for me, I don't mind killing them after that especially with fire but that initial surprise attack they launch even though I've seen the webs and know they're coming up somewhere they still surprise me.

Q: Are there a lot of spiders in Inquisition? I need to know how much I'm going to cry.

David Gaider: Arachnophobes beware. That’s all I can really say—aside from “oh god, I’m so so sorry.”

I have a phobia of spiders that literally induces shock in me (no exaggeration). Needless to say I've perfected playing video games without looking at the screen during those times. Now I hate to be that person, but it really REALLY makes things hard, when you put in an animal that MOST people are very uncomfortable with, into a god damn video game.

Most games with spiders try really hard to make them 'fantasy' spiders, that either look cuter/ weider or a morphed so they DON'T accurately portray their real life couterparts.

Bioware does the complete bloody opposite. They make them as realistic as possible, bigger, and put them everywhere. I saw that one in the trailer, and know they have done it again.

I just wish designers knew how f***ing hard it was sometimes. It's not like any other animal has this much attached to it, there's no 'rat phobia' or 'dragon phobia'. They do it JUST to make the game more scary, JUST for effect. I know men aren't affected as much, but why do I know plenty of guys who say stuff like 'ugh I hate the spiders' and 'that's pretty rough' when these scenes come up in other games?

"Im so so sorry"  It's not like people see that and go 'haha this is going to be awesome, giant spiders! No other video game does that!'
Why not try to HELP for once by making a mod for it? Or even a toggle option?

Yay my first true whiny BSN rant. I'm growing up.
