If they don't re-add those house-sized monstrous spiders, I'll be fine.

Yeah, phobias aren't rational. I'm sure somewhere, someone is pointing at the screen and screaming "Red Headed Rogues! Red Headed Rogues! They freak me out! Why, Bioware? Why!".I just wish designers knew how f***ing hard it was sometimes. It's not like any other animal has this much attached to it, there's no 'rat phobia' or 'dragon phobia'. They do it [b]JUST to make the game more scary, JUST for effect.

Giant Spiders are very popular in the Fantasy Genre because they actually existed on Earth, around some 300 Million Years ago.
There were no giant spiders back then. At least none that were giant sized...
God help us if spiders suddenly became mammoth sized. We'd become food for them and I'd be off this planet faster than you could say "ndksmjdopdsjopasksdj sa dijskidss djskj!!!" as a result. Can you imagine being wrapped up into a web cocoon and then slowly devoured by a spider's fangs? Gruesome stuff.
But I'm otherwise okay with spiders in the game and I'm okay with them in real life. It's the mammoth sized ones I would hate but thankfully they're hibernating underground and won't be bothering humanity for another few centuries....

I have a phobia of spiders that literally induces shock in me (no exaggeration). Needless to say I've perfected playing video games without looking at the screen during those times. Now I hate to be that person, but it really REALLY makes things hard, when you put in an animal that MOST people are very uncomfortable with, into a god damn video game.
Most games with spiders try really hard to make them 'fantasy' spiders, that either look cuter/ weider or a morphed so they DON'T accurately portray their real life couterparts.
I understand phobias. It took me, afraid of heights, a lot of time to adjust to playing Crackdown because I'd get all woozy jumping buildings so what I am about to say isn't trying to be mean or disparaging.
The way you should try and look at them is they can't be scary because they can't be real. The very precision can help you. That size of an arachnid is quite literally impossible physically. Those types of animcal can't scale up that way - they would suffocate at that size. Their massive size should calm your fears by making face slapping evident they aren't real, and can never be real...plus you get to take out your horrible venegeance on them.

Q: Are there a lot of spiders in Inquisition? I need to know how much I'm going to cry.
David Gaider: Arachnophobes beware. That’s all I can really say—aside from “oh god, I’m so so sorry.”

Spiders will always be a part of RPGs precisely BECAUSE they freak out a number of people.
When a designer needs a creature that exemplifies dark cavernous places... they don't choose a fuzzy bunny.

Bioware does the complete bloody opposite. They make them as realistic as possible, bigger, and put them everywhere. I saw that one in the trailer, and know they have done it again.
I just wish designers knew how f***ing hard it was sometimes. It's not like any other animal has this much attached to it, there's no 'rat phobia' or 'dragon phobia'. They do it JUST to make the game more scary, JUST for effect. I know men aren't affected as much, but why do I know plenty of guys who say stuff like 'ugh I hate the spiders' and 'that's pretty rough' when these scenes come up in other games?
"Im so so sorry" It's not like people see that and go 'haha this is going to be awesome, giant spiders! No other video game does that!'
Why not try to HELP for once by making a mod for it? Or even a toggle option?
Yay my first true whiny BSN rant. I'm growing up.
Yes one does put animals that most people are uncomfortable with in games as monsters. That is because animals nobody is uncomfortable with don't work as monsters. Its a monsters job to make people uncomfortable and scare them.
And I doubt that it is very common for people to be unable to even see a digital spider on their screen without getting a panic attack. Seriously If you can't even look at a fake game-spider on a screen without panicing that is a serious problem. I honestly recommend some sort of therapy and I do not mean that in any insulting way.
Also what are you talking about? I'm sure rat-phonia exists. Musophobia (fear of mice) is very common and rats are basically bigger, dirtier mice so....
Dragon-phobia doesn't exist because dragons don't exist. However herpetophobia (the fear of reptiles) is also very widespread and almost as common as arachnophobia.

I'd rather fist fight a nest of Cazadores, but thank god NV had less roaches than FO3. Effing gross that you can eat them though.

Well it is said that insects are the meat of the future. Hopefully spiders don't declare war on us if we start stealing their food. ![]()

All we have to do is introduce liquor and tobacco to their community and their people are ripe for exploitation.

I have gotten better however...I live in Australia, I used to be unable to deal with all types. Now I can kill small ones.
But of course nobody sees how hard that has been to achieve so they just think I'm insane.

My first Origin was a mage. And I needed a rod to burn things. And Owain said I had to have permission. That grumpy guy with the bad vision said no. That guy talking to Niall wanted me to write a thesis or something. Unless I ratted out Jowan the elf lady was the only choice. So I agreed to do the work for her seeing this as my opportunity to get the rod. And it was night and I have arachnophobia and my headphones were on fairly loud and suddenly there is this horrible thing coming down from the ceiling and I had to pause for about ten minutes to get over it.
That being said I look forward to killing spiders in DA:I. It almost gives me a sense of empowerment since outside of the screen I have to get someone else to do it for me.
Oh, and this is totally relevant...

Very sorry to people afraid or squicked out by spiders though I haven't met anyone suffering from arachnophobia who was freaked out by just the image of spiders but I have no doubt there are some.
As for the spiders in this game I'm really hoping that they don't accidentally make them fracken adorable like the giant spiders in DA2

Ewww... And I actually made this happen in a tabletop RPG once. Gruesome way to find your long lost father.
I got a friend who's got a fobia for spiders. He has to take every game slowly where there is spiders, no matter how cartoony they are. Sadly, as the giant spider has taken it's place in DA-lore, I think they're not just gonna disappear just like that.
