On my first playthrough I killed the mages by accident. I gave into Wynne's nagging at first but later picked the line "Rest easy. I'll get rid of these pesky mages" when talking to Cullen which ended in Wynne's and the Circle's demise. It was blind and I had no idea Wynne even had a role outside of that quest.

It's funny. I went into that first playthrough as an evil character but occasionally the real me crept in having me choose good decisions. Ex: executing Avernus, saving the Circle, destroying the Anvil of the Void. And then, Morrigan would step in and criticize and I always found myself wanting to please her. lol  I looked to her on tough decisions; especially when I didn't really understand them. She probably wasn't the best mentor.

"Defile these sacred ashes for someone called Andraste? What do you think, Morrigan?"

For most of that playthrough it was just me, Morrigan, Alistair, and Dog traveling Ferelden. Most of the others ended up dead.

One time Uldred managed to convert Irving when the Litany was on cooldown, and that had the same effect as agreeing to annul the Circle (without having to side with the bucketheads).

If I remember correctly, for the Litany to be on cooldown with one character doesn't preclude another using it.

no practical reason to side with templars. templars use useless at the battle of Denerim. Also you will lose a mage for your party if you need one.

LOL, me plenty heap fool! Never thought of that... :D

Conversely, we were not pleased ™ upon finding that casting Crushing Prison while in Arcane Horror form has the spell on cooldown after shifting back to natural (mage) form...

Seriously? This saves me some reloads. I hate that fight.

"You want us to assist this preachy schoolmistress? To rescue these pathetic excuses for mages?"

"They allow themselves, to be corralled like cattle, mindless. Now their masters have chosen death for them and I say let them have it."

Can't you annul the circle by messing up using the scroll thing which protects the mages from turning to abominations at the battle with uldred?

Simply don't use the litany and let Irving get possessed in the battle. Gregoire outright states that without the First Enchanter, the fate of the Circle is sealed.

You can, yes, but I never did.

The one time I sided with the Templars, it was by having my elven blood mage point out after I'd already won that if even one of the blood mages from the Circle escapes retribution, something horrible could happen later. Irving reluctantly sees the point, and consigns himself to the tender mercies of the Templars. I seem to recall Gregoir reacting as though someone had forced him to kill his puppy.

Just wanted to point out that the existence of The Maker has nothing to do with whether or not the Templars are justified in safeguarding both Mage and non-Mage life, and like it or not the dangers of possession are very real (Yes it's true that non Mages can be possessed as well, but the end result isn't nearly as powerful and we're strongly led to believe that the odds of a Mage being possessed is greater.) just as the danger of a pitchfork wielding mob is.

Also something to consider, the Templars that you actually speak to as a Mage are polite albeit distant ... the complaints that I hear are "I don't like how they are always staring at us." or "I wish I could go outside." not "They torture us for fun." Circle Life may not be rainbows and roses, but it also isn't anywhere near a Concentration Camp.

It is a camp where mages are concentrated, though for better reasons than the German Jews or Japanese Americans were concentrated. It's more accurate to say it's not a Death Camp. (Which Kirkwall comes distressingly close to.)

True, although I do believe that in this case the term Concentration Camp was meant to mean Death Camp, which under Greagoir's rule the Circle isn't. ... Kirkwall is an interesting counterpoint as Mages do seem to be treated worse in that Circle ... which makes an interesting question, is Kirkwall's Circle harsher because Kirkwall is Blood Mage/Demon Central or is Kirkwall Blood Mage/Demon Central because the Templars are harsher then elsewhere?  (Of course, the mystical fallout from whatever the Tevinter Empire did in Kirkwall is probably also a factor, whether that was where they crossed the Veil or something else equally horrible.)
