I think as long as the next game in the series is a continuation of Mass Effect 3, then there definitely should be a way of importing our choices, especially the final decision. I personally want know what the outcome of my Control ending has on the future of Mass Effect, and i'm sure some here feel the same way as well.

That sort of thing absolutely impossible. Control means Reapers everywhere along with huge differences in how the various societies evolve.
It can't be done.
At best, with nominal resources they could do a half-assed job.
You don't want that.

I think it could be done as long as there was a good reason for the Reapers to leave the Milky Way galaxy. By doing this, BioWare could move forward without having to stick to the original trilogy so much.

If you get rid of the Reapers running the galaxy in Control, yet made it a "continuation" you have just trivialized that choice

Just because they run the galaxy immediately following the events of ME3 doesn't mean they always will. Maybe the galaxy reaches a point where the civilizations don't need them anymore, so off they go into dark space, setting the stage for a new game without the Reapers. I mean who knows what the scenario could be.

Well then you don't get what you want anyway.
If they move the timeline forward so far that all the various consequences of the various ending scenarios converge, then that is essentially the same as ignoring them entirely.
It just isn't feasible.
If it were up to me, I'd do either a time-travel story or an isolation story or a prequel, in that order of preference.

Time travel could be interesting.....if done right that is.

It could be glorious, you'd basically get both a prequel and sequel at once.
And everybody's happy.

Like it or not, it was immortalized in Mass Effect lore the day it was released.
Then it should be immortalized as a cautionary tale.

Bioware took those 100's of hours and wasted them, why should you continue to give a crap after the way everything turned out.
Because I don't have your hate fueled opinion.

I hope not.
I really don't want ME3 immortalized in Mass Effect lore...
What, you want to just ignore it?
I would prefer a glazed over retconned canon ending (either that or IT, but that's just wishful thinking).
If it's far enough ahead in time, maybe they don't really know what happened... but that N7 armor doesn't look that much more futuristic, eh.

Hey, I'd love a glazed over Destroy which didn't lead to a synthetic holocaust and torso-Shepard.
But I'm realist enough to know that will never happen.
Plus, unlike Bioware, I'm not going to say that just because I would like that ME3 outcome, it's therefore perfect for everyone and try to force it on all.
So yeah, I'm in favor of ignoring it. Go into MENext with a tabula rasa. Keep the trilogy as its own thing. No outcome is canon going forward..

BioWare didn't "waste" my hours of enjoyment in ME3, nor have they wasted the hours of enjoyment I've gotten out of replaying the entire trilogy a few times since the game's release. The series was never about every single decision stacking into a power-fantasy curb-stomping at the end.

But what would we "Keep"? Considering that the last trilogy will only recieve "nods", how much information from the trilogy will be relevant?
#42
Posté 30 juin 2014 - 07:53
That's the point. You/ I /The Devs/ whoeverElse don't know what nods might be thought out one day, but a complete save-carry over would allow all of them!
A solution without import would only allow stuff like: "There was this dude once" and small cameos or references to known characters or places.

Potentially, much more than they need, but as the next game moves further in space and time from the trilogy the little things will become increasingly irrelevant (Save perhaps the obvious big choices) and they don't need very much. I'd like nods, but not the nigh nonstop parade of throwbacks we got in ME3.

the thing is there is no way anything form ME1-3 should get ported into ME4, ME4 should take place a long time away from of ME1-3 effects in a post destroy timeline because using one of the other two endings or all three would require selling 2 or 3 completely different games

It doesn't have to take place in a post-destroy galaxy. They could just as easily make it in a post-control or post-synthesis galaxy.
Preferably they won't canonize anything, and just let the Shepard/Reaper saga stand on it's own as the high level narrative of the MEU.

Yeah, that ain't gonna fly.

Basically, to win the game. The series was never about winning the game.
Apparently.

Would they use a default ME3 playthrough as canon or a ME3 playthrough with import from ME2 and ME1 as canon?

I think that they would probably just take the most important choices that were made from all three games and put that in an add-on for the game.
