Ok, so, I am getting nervous.

There is only one, just 1, achievement left for me from the 76 available in Dragon Age: Origins. That obviously includes the DC and the Expansion. But just one left!!

Now, I have played through, all the way through, 6 times. I am currently working on a 7th. I started with a Human Male Noble Warrior - two handed sword, did a Dalish Male Rogue - dual swords, then a Male Elven Mage, a Male City Elf Rogue Archer, a Human Female Rogue - dual swords, a Human Female Rogue Archer, and now, again, a Human Male Warrior - two handed sword.

At the end, or somewhere close to that, of the third play through, that was as a Male Elven Mage, the Master Warden achievement (killed 500 darkspawn) popped.

So, can someone, anyone, tell me: WHY HASN'T THE "BLIGHT-QUELLER" POPPED? And, please, don't say, "You haven't killed enough darkspawn."

I am working on a seventh play through and will probably try an eighth, but I am getting nervous.

Is my game bugged? Is that achievement bugged?

Or, will the achievement eventually  - - - pop - - -  all on its own?

It could be bugged, however for that achievement you "the warden" has to kill 1,000 darkspawn,if one of your companions kills a darkspawn it doesn't count towards the 1,000 quota.

On ps3 I used a trick of killing a bunch of darkspawn, loading, killing them again, loading, killing them again etc  (the game seemed to still count the kills even if you reload) only using the warden at all times.Took a while to do , but thats how I did it

Blight queller achievement is known to be bugged. Even worse, this bug was introduced by one of the patches.

One way of knowing for sure would be a quick solo run. That way, all party kills would also be Warden kills, except for those bagged by the B team during the defence of the gates in Denerim. For my mage Fiona, the party statistics showed 1158 darkspawn kills, and the B team had scored 55 (Oghren in the lead with 20). Hence 1103 darkspawn kills must belong to the Warden. Archie's armies can really boost your darkspawn kill count.

With Master Warden arriving at the end of the third campaign it is just barely possible that you are still slightly short of Blight Queller after the sixth.

i don't think i had consider a solo-run, but why not

i'll save and see what happens going through denerim - maybe i am just short

Where's the best place to do this?

EDIT: Would constantly redoing the Deep Roads in Awakening do the job?

The best place is the fight in the Alienage at the end of Origins. Save before the fight, make another save after the fight, reload the first save, save after the fight again on the second save(save over it), and keep doing it until it triggers.

That works for PS3.Not sure if it does for Xbox or PC.

You can see the amount of darkspawn you have killed in heroic accomplishments in the character record screen

You can, but that number represents the amount of darkspawn killed by the Warden and all other party members. Sometimes getting the achievement requires kills by only the Warden.

Actually, on the PC you can look at the kills for each individual party member, as well as the kills for the group as a whole. I used those stats myself when going after Blight-Queller and the "I'm Kind of a Big Deal" achievement. I'm not sure about the PS3 or the Xbox 360 though, as it's been a while since I've played on either.

step 1: set difficulty to nightmare

step 2: pick favorable class

step 3: solo game>get achievement>praise self

Thank you, each of you, for posting.

Here is an update. I have now played, completely played, all the way through to the death of the achdemon and the end of the campaign, 11 times. I still don't have the Blight-Queller [BQ]  Achievement.

BUGGED?!?! I guess.

So, here is my proposed solution. Go to Settings and erase the game. Restart from an older game disc I have. I will not connect to the web or to XBox Live, i.e. be certain that I am disconnected before starting. My hope is that an older version, one without the patch, or any patch for that matter, will then allow me to work toward the Achievement. Maybe, it (BQ) will just 'pop.' I have certainly killed enough dark spawn. I would think by now about 2Ks worth.

Anyway, I will post a result.

Thx

'On Xbox 360, the achievement is granted for killing 1,000 darkspawn with the main character only, and possibly only when you are controlling them. Removing patch 1.04 may solve this problem; the patch can be reinstalled after earning the achievement.'

I don't know how you would remove the patch though, maybe a uninstall?

I saw on the wiki that the blight-queller achievement is bugged, and it doesn't bother me at all because none of my achievements show up properly.  I tore out a dime-sized chunk of hair beating the Varterral on nightmare, picked every pocket in the game (to say nothing of the chests and traps), etc. and so forth and failed to earn a single achievement.  It might be because I'm modded out the wazoo and am a blatant cheat.  It might be because the game is broken.  Either way, I've had to accept that the achievements I've earned have only really mattered because I wanted to achieve them and I know what I did.

P.S.  In defense of my integrity, I figure if Leliana has plot armor to be fantastic, why shouldn't the PC?

Can't say anything about the XBox but on the PC it is sufficient to rename/remove profile.dap from the Settings directory after logging out and closing the game.

You will have a completely clean slate the next time you start the game (unless you forgot to log out). Some achievements re-pop easily (like Side-Tracked) but Blight Queller requires more work as its counter seems to start with 0, not some value pulled from the savegame.

Don't log in again until Blight Queller has popped. The game will remember new achievements across a profile re-download and will add them to the online profile.

If anything, it's probably the "blatant cheating"... I play with hundreds of mods installed, and have never had a problem with getting achievements to properly credit. I don't use any cheats, though (apart from once letting my Amell marry Alistair and be Queen because GDI, she really wanted it and I don't argue with blood mages) and I don't console my way through, around, or past anything. *polishes halo*

@theskymoves - yes, though I didn't define cheating.  I think the problems I encountered with broken achievements were due to getting them while the dev console was enabled.  Battery, I got while I was playing a mage and Alistair was the tank, with the console enabled.  It showed up in game and online.  I'm OK if they don't show up and no one else is going to bother looking anyway, so who cares?  This is supposed to be fun  :)
