It renewed my passion for playing games and made me a lot more discerning of what I buy.

I've learned that you have to take just about anything negative said on this forum, especially the hyperbolic comments, with a HEAVY grain of salt.

It introduced me to the field of character focused roleplaying games, entertained me well, and introduced me to the concept of an expansive, world building lore I could understand and appreciate.

Mass Effect 1 is the best game I've played. So good, that I was in such shock (wow) I couldn't believe a game like this could exist.

Mass Effect 2 improved on the NPC's and the combat, but the writing and the story took a big hit, I lost hope for Mass effect 3.

Mass Effect 3 surprised me though, the writing was satisfying and so was the story. The ending was meh though.

Overall, mass effect has ruined 95% of the entertainment content, as few things hold up.

It taught me to ALWAYS get full spoilers before purchasing a game I might have emotional investment in.

Completely shattered my confidence in Bioware as a developer to deliver an epic ending to an unforgettable series. I'm giving them one last chance in Dragon Age. I won't be buying ME4.

I grew up on fantasy genre computer games. ME has brought me out of my gaming comfort zone.

I always assumed I'd just suck at shooters, and for some reason I was always under the impression sci fi shooters would not be as story-driven as my favorite fantasy games, and were just focused on mindlessly blasting things into gory bits. ME showed me I don't suck at shooters, and how my prejudice kept me from trying out alot of other big titles.

ME is still very unique for its genre (which is why I'm psyched about ME4) but it has made me more open-minded and more confident about gaming.

This is pretty much what I think about ME personally. And the music quote above this one.

I had only played the DA series, then picked up Mass Effect and ME2 prior to 3 being released, didn't give myself much hopes for it since I'm more of a *stabbity stab* type than a *shooter* type (using a sniper rifle in ME ....so fun! "*headshot* Take THAT Boss-man!").

But I was also under the impression that the sci-fi games would be more action *shoot shoot kill kill* and less story and more "Captain Kirk power fantasy" (which to me the Liara romance teeters on the edge of) and less personal story. I was very happy with the story, the characters, the world design, the lore building.....there is stuff I miss in the ME games compared to the DA games (like party banter, although the companions moving around the ship in ME3 was a step in the right direction). So ME made me rethink my 'game sterotypes'.

Of course, after DA and ME1 and 2, I had to go back and get all the other Bioware titles I hadn't played before.

Mass Effect 2 actually made me enjoy games, films and tv series in a very different way, a more enlightened way. For example, I never cared for soundtrack, yet after all the utterly brilliant tracks of ME2's OST I start doing that for everything.

So Mass Effect 2 was a big deal to me, and in consequence the whole trilogy.

All of this. I never really paid much mind to the writing and world-building in most media until ME. The whole debacle with ME3 is really what inspired me to write and be creative.

So, in a way, thanks for being awful, ME3's endings.

It was the first gaming franchise to really open my eyes to my love for RPGs.

It got me into reading novels (I never read previously, no patience for it), as I had to know all the lore, all the stories.

It is the only group of games I would play over 20 times, so many great Shepards (10 ME1, 12 ME2 , 5 ME3 playthroughs).

It is the only game, after playing it that many times, and owning it on 2 different platforms already, I would buy again on PS4 if they were to remaster it.....at full price....on day 1.

It was the first game (series) that in the end punished me for getting emotionally involved with its main character. Thus made me more cynical and cautious about what purchases I make.

This trilogy set the bar for all sci-fi games and universes to come and spoiled me in ways I'm still discovering.

No game has been the same after Mass Effect, all of them are more boring than they should because there are no Mordins, Garrus, Edis or Liaras in them.

The Mass Effect trilogy immersed me into its universe like no sci-fi before it, and like very few games of any genre previous to it, even though I've been gaming regularly since the days of the Commodore 64.

It is the best sci-fi genre IP I've ever had the privelage to play, which is saying something.

For some reason, it reminded me of Star Wars (the classic trilogy, not the prequel [new] one), which happens to be my favorite sci-fi movies of all time, which is again, saying something, since sci-fi is my favorite genre of any type of media, by far.  So it's definitely a good thing.

Back in 2007, when I picked up the then newly released Mass Effect 1 for Xbox 360, even though I never heard of it, I knew that it was going to be a very memorable experience.  How did I know?  Well because I saw Bioware's logo at the bottom of course.

Plus, I fondly recall my treasured experience with Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic - what a game that was!  That ending - even after over a decade - still leaves me with goosebumps whenever I think about it.  It was so unexpected!

From the main menu of ME1 to the ending of part 3, I find the music of Mass Effect to be absolutely incredible, and worthy of some prestigeous awards, as it evokes a lot of emotion, and not just from seasoned players, but also from people who have never heard of the game, as I've observed recently.

There were a lot of moments in the trilogy which really made me laugh, which was really unexpected for a sci-fi series.  Mordin Solus' singing certainly comes to mind, as does Wrex.

There were a lot of epic moments in all three games, which really made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

The trilogy managed to really make me care about my squad in all 3 parts - with the exception of Ashley.

I found that I couldn't stand the voice work done by Mark Meer (?) for the male Commander Shepard.  It sounded (and continues to sound) far too monotone.

This is why I was very happy to find that I could choose to be femShep.  Jennifer Hale (?) on the other hand, did an absolutely superb job with her character.  10/10 for sure!  To this day, approximately 7 years after playing ME1, I still can't stand 'manShep' and continue to play with femShep.

Most importantly - and as cheesy as this may sound - the trilogy made me shed quite a bit of tears for my squad, and for other NPCs in the game who didn't quite make it to the end.  And there are extremely few games which I can honestly say the same for.  The only other ip I can think of which made me choke up was Metal Gear Solid (especially part 4).

I'm sure there's more, but that's about all that comes to mind right now.

All in all, I think the trilogy is a landmark achievement in cinematic sci-fi storytelling in video games.  A title it continues to hold to this day.  This is why I wish Bioware would remake it into an epic-looking memory hog for PC (and the PS4/XB1 while they're at it).

Cheers!
