Played DAO 4 times going on my 5th run today. May do a couple more depending on how many achievements I got left. Anyway I feel like I missed some important or interesting side stories in each arc (mage tower, forest, orzammar, redcliffe, haven, etc.). For example, that old guy in the forest, what was his deal anyway and what's his story? If you know any cool or interesting things or stories that could of been easily overlooked or missed share them. Also, I haven't read any of the books so please no spoilers from outside DAO game.

I think the mad hermit was a crazy mage hiding from the circle. :)

There's a power struggle inside the Blackstone Irregulars, father versus son.  Do all their side quests and you can pick sides.

The two Denerim rogues D and K are in competition, and if you do all the Favors for Interested Parties quests for one or the other, you can help them take out their rival.  K's final quest leaves me convinced that Gorim, Sister Theohild, and the Tranquil Proprietor are all in a lyrium smuggling ring.

Do all the Mage's Collective quests, making sure you check the boards in all three places (Redcliffe, Lake Calenhad Docks, Denerim) and pay attention to the ones from Jubasto.  They form an interesting pattern, and point to a problem with the Collective's operations.

The Topsider quest in the Deep Roads tells a touching story via the codex entries you pick up.

The rogue R also has a quest, Correspondus Interruptus, available at the Gnawed Noble, that results in you picking up a lot of humorous codex entries.  Not really a story arc but it's fun.

Just generally read all the codex entries.  There are a ton of little stories tucked into them.

Find Godwin hiding in the cupboard in Broken Circle.  If your Warden is up for drug-running, do the lyrium smuggling quest you can get in Dustown and you'll see him again later.

When you first go to the Denerim Market, talk to Master Ignacio.  After he bids you good day, click on him again and ask how he knew you were a Warden.  Also, read the clickable posters in the market, go to the Pearl, and fight Padraig and Shaevra.  Then, accept Ignacio's job offer, and when he gives you the first hit (on Padraig and Shaevra), tell him they're already dead.  His reaction in both cases is pretty funny.  For bonus dialogue, have Zevran with you when you're talking to him - he's got some choice words for the ex-Crow.

If you've never helped out Sgt. Kylon in the Denerim market, do that. Kylon is awesome.
