explain?

The Kokari Wilds are on the same latitude as the Western Approach. The Kokari Wilds aren't even on mountains, they are low lands.

My first guess would be a difference in altitude.

The Blight is why it's a desert.  I don't know why it's a hot desert, though.

The planets rotation around the sun keeps one side towards the sun more than the other.

Lattitude isn't the only factor for weather.

Also, it's a video game. FYI.

Unless something is at the north or south pole, just guessing the weather of a location based on its latitude gives you basically no help as to its actual climate. Proximity to the ocean, mountains, elevation, all have great effect on the climate. An example would be here in my home state Washington. Everyone is familiar with the perpetually-cloudy west side that has Seattle, but go 200 miles east and you will find yourself in desert that gets maybe 20% of the precipitation the western half of the state gets.

No expert, but folks die from cold exposure at night in the deserts, too. And it can be difficult to equate a known eco-system with one based in fantasy, magics, Veil tears, etc.

For a real-life example, compare locations with similar latitude to Death Valley I suppose.

The average highs there are only under 90f for like three or four months a year.

The blight devestated the landscape so nothing grows (or hardly anything). Also magic.

I was going to use a similar example between Vancouver and Calgary. Vancouver has the same climate as Seattle, but go east past the Rockies during the winter, and you're seeing one of the most frigid-30C hells that Earth offers.

Just be thankful it's not as bad as the geography in Dark souls 2, seriously after defeating the Earthen peak boss you go up an elevator in a windmill that from the outside clearly has nothing but sky above it, and all of a sudden you're in the Iron Keep..... A castle so heavy it has began to sink into the fiery earth below.

Was going to use that as an example, but as the State covers such a wide range of latitude, wasn't certain if it was valid for this discussion. Thanks for posting!

Western Approach is on the same latitude as Denerim not the Kokari Wilds. It's also in the middle of the continent, nowhere near the coast. The Gobi desert is on the same latitude as the Mediterranean, and the Australian Great Sandy Desert is on the same latitude as the 'tropical' Great Barrier Reef. See also Atacama desert and Namib desert. Climate is more than just latitude.
