I am toying with the idea of playing DA:O again for the 40th time, I have played most of the DLCs but not Darkpawn chronicles or the Golems one. Any feedback on these two DLCs? Interesting? Boring? Fun? Hard?

Thanks

On Chronicles-how bad do you want the Blightblood sword? It's a good sword, but it's really the only redeeming quality about Chronicles.

I like the Golem DLC. Shale is a lot of fun, and it's a decent adventure.

Chronicles offers some interesting side notes on characters and events, plus a chance to play as a monster. It took me a bit, but it got better once I adapted to a fresh pair of eyes. Not much loot, but worth playing at least once (or more).

Golems was great fun until the final battle; that was a raging bore. Still, a lot of fun until then, and offers a wonderful item for all other characters, esp those having economic woes.

Don't think I even bothered with either of them.

Golems of Amgarrak does not have Shale.

I didnt think the Golems of Amgarrak had Shale - that was the Stone Prisioner. The dlcs are cheap  - $5.00 so I guess I will try. There doesnt seem much to play until Inquisition comes out.

You may as well get all the DLCs

Golem's has one of the toughest bosses in the game and a weapon reward that sells for 334g in the main game.

Chronicles let's you play as darkspawn in an alternate last battle.  Pretend your warden didn't survive his/her joining.

Meant the stone prisoner DLC-sorry for the misunderstanding.

Darkspawn chronicles is a great dlc for those who got dumped by Alistair. I played it right after the main game and I was like " mwahahaha!!"

Its a great dlc for anyone who hated any of the companions really. Cuz other than that and the reward, it was really quite boring for me.

Although I played golem dlc 3x, ive never done the reward quest. How the place looks gives me headache. But now I know it sells for THAT much, I will try harder.

Didn't like either of them an only played them for achievements. I wouldn't recommend them. Blight sword is amazing if your a warrior or rogue but mages cant use it so I never use it. Both dlcs aren't worth it. Keep your money and save it for a puppy.

The Chronicles can offer a nice challenge because the means at your disposal - abilities, equipment - are severely limited. I really liked that, just like getting to appreciate the finer points of the various types of darkspawn as fighters (especially the shrieks, awesome). But the Chronicles also gave me such a fill of dark side points that it'll last for a couple of years and I'll probably never do the Sith campaign through DA:O that I had originally planned.

Golems of Amgarrak is a must for everyone who is looking for a nice challenge, nice loot, or both. The overall difficulty level is non-trivial but fair, except for the final fight which can be very tough indeed on Hard or Nightmare. Like reload and lots of cussing tough. For a first playthrough I'd recommend lowering the difficulty to Normal or Easy for the finale.

The Amgarrak loot is awesome for a mage, especially if combined with the Vestments of the Seer that you get for playing Witch Hunt. I made a whole new mage only for taking these items on a fun run through Origins.

@DarthGizka oh so that's where those mage items comes from lol. Disregard my previous post OP if you consider playing a mage.

Didn't get Darkspawn Chronicles.  I felt it wasn't even worth 5 bucks.  Got the Golems of Amgarrak, played it on my Cousland Queen only.  Not a ton of replayability there, but it was a notch above Darkspawn Chronicles which doesn't have your Warden who dies in the Joining, and is basically just a mindless kill-fest with no connection at all to your warden's story.

Of course, if you like games like that, go for it.

DC is just fighting with a tiny bit of lore thrown in via codex entries, most of which you can ignore in the canon setting anyway. It's a combat-based alternate universe.

Golems is far more interesting, both in terms of challenge and lore, though the final cutscene is a bit face-palmy.

I've played Darkspawn Chronicles twice (once on the PS3 and once on the PC). It's not the best DLC, but I did enjoy it. It was a nice break from the main campaign, and it was kind of fun being a killing machine who didn't have to worry about what everyone thought. Of course, I still had to watch the approval of my "companions," but the more I killed, the more fearful of me they were, which is a good thing in DC. Plus, reading the alternate codexes of the DAO companions was interesting. It's definitely not a DLC to play over and over, but it can be fun, and Blightblood is quite a nice weapon.

I've only played Golems once (PS3, but I will play it soon on the PC). It was okay and definitely a challenge. The end boss was a royal pain, but the DLC items you get from it are very, very nice.

I liked the idea of Darkspawn Chronicles but playing it wasn't fun. If I remember right there isn't any discussions with anybody. I liked the Golems of Amgarrack and everything went very well until the final battle which was very hard. I tried to play it on hard difficulty setting many times until I got frustrated and changed the difficulty setting to most easiest available :D

I just finished the darkspawn chronicles on nightmare. A few times it was game over (all of them died). I liked the enthrall option, I wanted to have Ogre, Shriek and Hurlock emissary in the group, but could not keep them all alive. I did not like that if I equipped a party member in the group and he died, the sword or staff was gone and you could not get it back. It was fun looking at the game from the other side, but I probably won't play again any time soon.

And yes the Shrieks are really bad-ass fighters :D

It was fun as a one-time thing.  I enjoyed it.  But it's like Golem of Amgarrak - it's a DLC I only played the one time.  Except for those two, I've played and enjoyed the rest many times over.

I enjoyed discovering more of the characters seen in DAO, esp Wade and Herron. It may not be considered canon, but for me it is.
