I'm really interested in Locke. I'm getting a "legacy" vibe from him. (Learning about Master Chief's history, Nightfall, him sharing the cover with the Chief, etc.)
Hm... how would you guys kill off an icon like Master Chief?
I always thought a last stand would fit well, but that kind of death has already happened. Not saying it can't happen again, but I don't think they should.

They're not killing off the Chief. Locke is looking over The Master Chief's legacy because The Arbiter told Locke to find him and apparently it helps.

 

I am absolutely positive that the intro and outro added to the Halo 2 section of The MCC is gonna be based on Locke looking over Chief's history.

I'm still not knocking out the possibility that the Chief could die. Do I think it will happen in Halo 5? Absolutely not. He is the Reclaimer after all. The sixth title on the other hand...

That's just like saying Mass Effect dies with Shepard or The Walking Dead dies with Lee. Halo won't die if the Chief dies, it certainly didn't die when we didn't see him for three titles straight. I love the Master Chief but I'm always open to the idea of killing him off and paving the way for a new protagonist. 343 could totally go this route, especially considering what happened in the fourth game.

Mass Effect did die with Shepard in my case, and Telltale's TWD is not comparable to Halo at all given Halo's been around for more than a decade.

Nah. By my logic it's like trying to continue the Batman comic book after you've killed off Bruce Wayne. They tried that a few years ago when Dick Grayson took up the mantle of Batman for a while when Bruce was presumed to be dead but that was always supposed to be a short term thing. I like Dick Grayson but he is no Bruce Wayne, Dick could not carry that comic book for a permanent basis. Bruce's origin story, his background, his personality is so fundamental to who the Batman is, in short Bruce Wayne is irreplaceable, you can put someone else in the Batsuit but their is only one Batman.

Nah. By my logic it's like trying to continue the Batman comic book after you've killed off Bruce Wayne. They tried that a few years ago when Tim Drake took up the mantle of Batman for a while when Bruce was presumed to be dead but that was always supposed to be a short term thing. As I've only started reading Batman comics with the start of the New 52, I never really experienced his being replaced throughout time and time again. Yet I know the Knightfall story arc is regarded quite highly amongst fans. The concept of killing off famous super heroes and replacing them always interested me. I know it worked well with the death of Peter Parker in the Ultimate line of Marvel comics, his successor has turned out just as amazing a Spider-Man as Peter was.

And if the comics and novels are anything to go by, then we already have a rough idea of what the Chief should look like underneath the helmet.

September's Games with Gold for Xbox Live have been announced, and it appears that from September 16th to the end of the month on the Xbox 360 you'll be able to download Halo:Reach for free.

 

Given I have never played Reach, this is an opportunity I will not miss. I might even save it and wait to play it right before the Halo MCC comes out since the events of Reach take place before Halo:Combat Evolved. Or I'll just replay it then.

Not like I'll have paid for it, hahaha. A four year wait gets me the game for free so I'll likely not be too hard on it if it doesn't make me happy in the face. I've already watched the narrative on Youtube ages ago, more than once. *salute*

halo reach was awesome

Good thing about this is it'll become my first Halo experience since 2010, prefacing my time with the MCC. It'll hopefully get me back in the groove a little early.

 

And if I think about it, I'll be playing FIVE Halo games for the price of $60 and a free download across two platforms.

Halo Reach Okay single player (with some epic parts), great multiplayer (balance issues though.)
