I am so not into this new character. At this point, I hope he dies early in the game.

I didn't mind Locke in Nightfall. I think it's weird how Locke is being set up more as a rival and adversary to Chief. I'd figure he'd be out more for answers rather than trying to hunt (and possibly kill) MC.

Does that mean I made the right choice not to read the comics?

What do you mean?

How good/bad are they?

PS: It's kind of funny when I get the notification saying, "God has quoted a post you made." :D

Alt trailer!

Is this some sort of indication of different storylines or something?

Eh, I've never been happy with comic book adaptations of stories. Especially since too many big events are happening in them.

They're alright, when they don't focus on their pet character Sarah Palmer. The issue with Halo is that it's losing a lot of its 'military' feel.

It's not the hard military sci-fi that was best exemplified in Reach anymore. It's still a great story, but it's getting more and more... Mass Effect-y in feel. Which would be fine, if not for the fact that Halo has its own identity.

I think the new trailer is misleading, especially since 343 have basically already said they aren't going to drop the Chief. That'd be akin to suicide for the series.

Palmer is annoying..... So yeah.... Anyway this trailer has sparked my interest, though I knew that Master Chief would do something to betray the UNSC.

Looks like HALO is going the way of Mass Effect with player agency and choices dictating narrative outcomes. And probably will have multiple endings and stuff.

I mean, we all know the vast majority of players will choose the Chief path versus the Locke path. So...... While it's pretty cool for HALO to really branch out this way, I think it's kina a waste. But an exciting and interesting waste.

I am officially on the hype train for halo 5.  The mp was great based on the beta, and the story is looking very promising. So...

ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN

I can't say that - Reach aside - Halo could ever be called hard military. But at the very least it always felt grounded.

I agree with you that the series might as well be Mass Effect nowadays though, which is a shame as the series used to be above feeling like generic pulp.

Also, obviously Chief would never become a full-on antagonist. And seeing how Locke inhabits the role originally intended for Palmer, and how he's been depicted so far, the other version is clearly false as well. My guess is that they'll predictably end up teaming up.

Question is, did he really betray the UNSC? Or is he doing something else?

The Master Chief has commitment to one thing: Protecting humanity. With or without the help of the UNSC as the last game showed.

I think this is the game where ONI will become an issue from now on. A real issue. As well, the trailers all hint at another alien threat, something external.

Is Halo hard or soft Sci-fi. It's been all over the place with the books, comics, games and TV show.

I felt that Chief would've gone rogue to protect humanity, the loss of Cortana will most likely play a factor. I really want ONI as an enemy next game. I want some human antagonists and judging from Halo 4, they seem to be leaning towards that fact.

Read the books, especially the one's under Nylund. They're very, very technical and detail oriented in as close to a real world analogue as possible.

I'm also wondering about the rest of Blue Team. Knowing 343, they'll probably all be killed off.

It'd probably be a rogue faction within the UNSC/ONI but not the UNSC as a whole. As for the new alien threat I'd expect it have something to do with the flood/precursors and will catch the galaxy by surprise.

On the forums there is alot of debate about there actually being an MC clone present in the timeline, who is causing all the destruction, and ONI is pinning it on the real MC since they want him out of the picture.

If anyone has been following the Hunt the Truth campaign through the audio files, there are apparently many hints (one talks about John when he was in 6th grade, yet he was kidnapped at the AGE of 6... ????)

Is Halo hard or soft Sci-fi. It's been all over the place with the books, comics, games and TV show.

It's gradual and work dependent.

Under Bungie, it was on the harder side, especially in the novels.

343 has been a lot more ambiguous. Some works were very hard: Greg Bear's Forerunner trilogy (it's Greg Bear after all), and, I regret to say it, Karen Traviss (who when she isn't shitting on universes does produce work more on the harder side of fiction).

Then the comics have been very loose with their depiction, though I think it's artistic licensing more than anything.

As far as hardness/realism goes in the games my opinion is (from harder to softer): Halo Reach, Halo Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 4, Halo Wars.

I was talking about the games (under Bungie), but you're certainly right on that count.

And yeah, 343i really been trying to kill off every last main or side character no matter where they come from. Wonder if that's why Halsey was given plot armor in the form of the eulogy she's supposed deliver decades later...

Clone Chief eh????? I have no doubt that those evil cvnts at ONI would do something like that.

Much like Cerberus did with Shepard......

It looks to me that they're trying to make ONI out to be like Cerberus in Mass Effect, which I think is kind of stupid.

The UNSC is what the alliance should be, and ONI is what Cerberus ought to be within the alliance IMO.

If we're going to have human enemies, I want to fight Innies. They're the ones I don't like. ONI's actions aren't very surprising. They're just covering their asses now that the war's over.

Based on the novel First Blood, there has been speculation (very fair and reasonable speculation) that Buck and Romeo are two of the spartans with Agent Locke in the halo 5 teaser featured in the MCC. The third is obviously Macer

I always felt that over all ONI had a far better depiction of being a morally ambiguous organization than Cerberus as the later was often depreciated (in all three games) as mad scientist while the former got stuff done. If we were to fight ONI I'd guess it'd be a rogue faction since it'd be against the UNSC's and even ONI's interest to label MC a traitor.
