I've read somewhere that for now on ALL future Halo games are coming out with a beta since MCC's launch was a pure disaster. That's good news, in my opinion anyway. Also, they added skill rankings to several playlists in the MCC as well and 343 is working on fixing the Halo CE bug.

I hope they continue to support MCC even after Guardians. The game needs to be worked on some more, but it's getting there. Fasten the matchmaking times and hopefully add separate playlists, both ranked and social, somewhat like what Halo 3 has. They also need to add a freaking action sack playlist.

Also, can you hold 16 man customs in MCC without it failing? I wonder...

They will. They've already stated that the MCC is a big project for them, since it's an encompassing encyclopedia made to bridge the games together better, and that they aren't just doing it to port the series through to the Xbone. From what I've heard, they even intend to use the MCC as a platform for the series (Halo 3 anniversary for example is speculated to be released as an addition to the MCC, accessible to it, and meant as the platform for which even Halo 5 might be released.

MCC is apparently more of a 'Halo app' rather than a game, a platform for which one can access the games. It's actually a rather intriguing idea. Of course, a lot of that is unofficial and speculative, based on comments made during the production, so take it with a grain of salt.

I played the first Halo when I was 7-8. Through out the Halo games, I always thought Chief was this greatest badass. Loved it.

But after Halo 4, the ending made me really sad. All the Chief has known is violence and war. If I remember correctly, each game in his story has him wake up, go to war, sleep again, wake up and go to war once more.

His clone died and we all know what it must feel to know when your parents are worried something has happened to you. Not a nice feeling.

He does not have proper friendships outside his Spartan group, like real Human friends and not soldiers, he probably has never had a romantic life or experienced a kiss etc.

He us well aware of other Spartans that will replace him, his entire existence will be replaced, everything he has fought for and he will be replaced with a newer generation of the super soldier, like an iPhone. He isn't seen as a Human by many, just a war machine.

And finally, he fights for Humanity, which he himself does not have a place in. He will never fit in, there simply is no position for him in society, no matter how lowly it is.

I feel the Human side of Halo 4 just made him a complete tragic character and I feel awful about it. The dude is no doubt severely depressed about his own existence, I wouldn't be surprised if he offed himself.

Has anyone here felt depressed after Halo 4?

No.

I think that stuff is sappy and detracts from the Chief. He's the consummate professional. He doesn't need any of that humanity crap. At least, not the way you describe it.

Ummm, I think you are reading too much into Halo 4.

I never felt any of that, and I still dont after reading that. The only reason I felt bad for the chief is how at that point, aside from Blue team, he has lost nearly everyone he did care about (Cortana, Johnson, Miranda). Halsey turning on the UNSC is going to make anything simpler.

Also, two things I disliked in Halo 4 were:

  • Chief deciding to talk way too much, and saying things that are completely unnecessary. It was more unique when he barely said anything. I understand he needs to talk a bit more to work in the games story, but alot of his dialogue was not needed.
  • Cortana and Chief loving each other. Like seriously, who the hell thought this was a good idea? In the original games, I never once thought the two loved each other, nor was there ever really a vibe that this was the case. I always saw Cortana more as a guardian angel to the chief than his love interest. It really bothered me in 4.

Halo thread. This is halo related, so I suppose.

There's a fanfic I'm writing and I need some feedback, the link is in my sig. It's a cross over between Mass effect, Halo and other universes and as for Halo, I'd like to hear some suggestions. Please comment in the thread if you would take the time to do so please.

Moving on,

No.

I think that stuff is sappy and detracts from the Chief. He's the consummate professional. He doesn't need any of that humanity crap. At least, not the way you describe it.

The Chief was trained to be a soldier, not Human. I think personally, he was... somewhat out of character in Halo 4 in my opinion. Yes he'd make an occasional dry remark and such, but Halo 4 kinda took it to far and they brought the "You may be the leader but you're a dick cliche and I'm a soldier and will disobey," which was somewhat understandable considering the Didact but really? Did they really need to add that? And the Didact, who had sooooo much potential was cut off in a pathetic manner. I was expecting a boss fight.

I also learned why I don't want to play Halo 4 on Adrift ever again.

Teabaggers with boltshots. I was like, "Get off of my body you filthy trash" thankfully right before the game ending screen cut off a teammate killed him. I want to get better at Halo because and increase my skill level so I don't play with undesirables often.

There's a difference between getting bagged because the other guy pulled off a clutch and wiped out your entire team with melee and getting bagged for being killed by noob guns.

And I hope they keep hornets in Halo 5, perhaps add some more Human and Covie vehicles.

Here's a good quote IMO in regards to Master Chief's character or lack there of:

“...so quiet and so invisible, literally, that the player gets to pretend they’re the chief. The player gets to inhabit those shoes – men and women can apply their own personality. In a way, that makes it very easy for the writer; they don’t have to define the Chief’s personality.”

Chief is the blank slate.

Personally, I liked Thel 'Vadam way more.

The Arbiter in Halo 2 alone had more character development and personality than most characters in the entire game franchise

If you read First Strike and Reach you know Chief has a lot of character development and those novels are canon and in my opinion must reads for any legit HALO fan.

Indeed.

It's a shame he wasn't as well received when Halo 2 came out and a bigger shame he was reduced to a coop partner in Halo 3.

Cool. Me too. I was fairly surprised by how well written and paced they were. Very good quick read page turners. Lots of action and decent characters.

Yes but I was talking games, not EU.

WITH THAT BEING SAID: I frigging love those two books. Great novels. Had them since I was in grade 5

I'm curious. In my story, does my Spartan fit the bill of being a Spartan IV? Thoughts? Anything I should work on?

One of my biggest issues in Halo 3 was what they did to the Arbiter. The ruined him. The co-op partner idea could have worked well if they had given him proper dialogue during the missions, and had him do something in the cutscenes. Like there is only one cutscene in the entire game where we get to see classic Arby and thats when he kills Truth.

Not only that, but all the hype for Elites fighting alongside humans, and then we only get a small segment of one mission having them and marines fight alongside each other against covies.

Halo 3 may have had excellent gameplay, but it still had a crap story that was dumbed down. Halo 2 is the superior game hands down

I think Halo 2 is the best out of the series.

Best MP. Best Campaign. Favourite art style and character design (the remastered version honours the classic look very well too, unlike CEA)

EDIT: Gonna stop posting for a while, my post count looks beautiful :P

I got a lore question: Have any SPARTANs defected to the Insurrectionist side? I know it's a weird question considering the original intent of the program but I am quite curious.

In Halo 4 I never got the impression that MC and Cortana were lovers, if they did love each other it was defiantly platonic rather than romantic.

Cortana is really the only person, maybe other spartan II's, that understand and can empathized with Chief and she was always the consistent force in his career with her. I felt that Cortana liked chief and maybe thought he was attractive but I didn't get the "I wanna bang vibe" I just think she loved Chief. As you would maybe a really, really close friend. But not really because Chief and Cortana's relationship is very unique and odd. But I never thought it was creepy.

I think ONI is creepy as fvck tho.
