The E3 level looked straight out of CoD with everything blowing up and super linear gameplay. Halo 4 was filled to the brim with those linear corridor levels too. That's not Halo; 343i should be aiming for Halo 3, because that game had real scale and a real dynamic sandbox.

Theyve already stated that missions are going to have multiple flanking routes, larger environments than previous halo campaigns, etc. Go read the gameinformer article.

With that being said, the demo was pretty linear for the most part, however I think it was done for the demo. The halo 4 E3 demo was a bit different from the final version too.

Game Informer is owned by GameStop, they'll say anything to sell more games. Besides, why should I believe them when they said the same thing about Halo 4? All I have to go on really is the footage they've shown. So far, I'm unimpressed with 343's performance with the Halo brand. It's a shame Bungie wasn't able to take that IP with them when they left Microsoft. At least they knew how to make a proper Halo game and didn't have to be reminded over and over again by the fans.

Ah yes, Bungie is really just great now! Destiny was amazing!!!!

Yeah, no. They were already driving Halo into the ground when they released Reach. They would've driven it even further given how Destiny turned out. All the good people at Bungie are gone.

Reach was imo one of the better Halo's, compared to Halo 2 and ODST. I still have 0 regrets from going over to PS4 and Halo Guardians doesn't seem to change that.

Reach was different but it didn't become CoD or something else, it remained a Halo game through and through. Neither the scale nor dynamics of the sandbox were lost. Can you say the same for 343's efforts? No, you can't, because both of those things were lost with Halo 4 and we still have no evidence of those two elements making a return in Halo 5 outside of what the developer says in a GI magazine.

Did you play the beta, or even bother to search up details on it?

No loadouts, no armour abilities. Weapons spawn on the map. It plays like Halo 3 MP. Weapons, vehicles and power ups on the map (warzone is separate from normal 16 player MP). There are added abilities, but everyone spawns with them. Again, more like Halo than both Reach and 4.

Campaign wise, we'll have to see.

I'm talking about the campaign since that was the show piece at E3.

Well claiming a game plays like COD and is nothing like Halo when the multiplayer is delibrately backtracking on the crap that went on in the last two games so that they could return to the classic style of the first 3 games is kind of dumb, dont you think?

And Halo 4's campaign is no where near as bad as you make it look either. I understand story complaints, but the mission design in halo 4 was just like Halo as well. Maybe not quite as open as 3, but neither was 2 (it is often said that 2 and 4 have the most linear campaigns). There were definitely sandbox moments in the game, and MUCH MORE large scale battles than present in Reach (which is funny considering the fall of Reach was one of the biggest, if not THE biggest battles in Halo lore, yet you never even got to partake in the large scale battle. The largest battle in the game is limited to a cutscene and background while you get to ****ing blow up AA guns. Not to mention only a single segment with the Scorpion tank, and it feels less exciting than both moments with the Scorpion in Halo 4,).

And you know what the funny thing is? I dont even really like Halo 4 that much. But it angers me when people try to make Reach out as if it was something good when it was just as bad as 4, if not worse (in terms of campaign).

Yes to the first, though it was a misunderstanding. I was never talking about the multiplayer.

Okay, well, since most of that is opinion, I'm not going to bother with a lot of it. The first level in Halo Reach was larger than any ground level in Halo 4. There are even larger levels later in the game. Again, point me to something in Halo 5 that shows that kind of scale, more importantly, show me evidence of the return of the sandbox outside of what was said in some magazine. E3 was the perfect opportunity to put those concerns to rest and all we got was linear CoD copy cat garbage.

Reach being the largest battle is not opinion. Reach's battles being smaller than 4's is not opinion. If Halo 4's E3 demo was what the entire game was, then why were there massive sections in Halo 4 where you were thrown into a sandbox (2nd mission, 3rd mission, sections of the 4th mission, 5th mission, 6th mission, 8th mission)? Oh, right.

Just because Reach's missions were larger in some cases doesnt mean that 4 had no sandbox moments. Does that mean Halo CE-3 were not sand box shooters either? Because their missions werent as large? Reach must not be a sandbox shooter either considering ODST had bigger maps. Your argument is flawed.

Point is, just because the E3 demo didnt showcase sandbox gameplay, doesnt mean there is no sandbox gameplay.

You know what? Im going to prove you even more wrong. Based on Reach's E3 demo, the game shouldve have been a linear shooter just like Halo 5 is going to be. Here you are:

The demo you show is obviously a large scale battle taking place in the sandbox. At no point are there QTE's or the game taking control away from you in an attempt to convey more cinematic flare, CoD-style. Compare it to the Halo 5 clip from E3 and you will see something quite different and if you still don't understand where I'm coming from on this after that, then I suggest we agree to disagree.

A moment in the game where control is taken away from you. Much like in the Halo 4 E3 demo. You can literally count the number of times that type of thing happened in Halo 4, so was that moment in the demo accurate to the final game? Not at all.

Aside from the final battle with the Didact, they had no harm. 3/5 of them were in the opening 3 mins, basically acting as a tutorial. The only other one was when you were introduced to the Knights.

If it doesn't hinder your enjoyment of the game, well then fine. But that kind of crap does not belong in a Halo game, IMO.

I agree as well, but saying that it negatively impacted the game is an exaggeration, because it was in less than 1% of it.

That being said, the "boss fight" was pure garbage. QTE's in that manner better not return.

But they did negatively impact the game for the parts they were in. Of course when you look at the game as a whole it seems small, but that would be like saying that Mass Effect 3's ending was only 1% of the game. While that may be technically true, it still had an impact for that moment and was remembered after the fact as well.

Mass Effect 3 Ending is an ending. A couple QTE's didnt really ****** me off because they were all in the start and werent in the game after that. Maybe they made you angry and pissed you off, but they werent used to a degree that made me mad (had they had them in all missions is something else). Except that final fight. That is a different story.

To be honest I find Reach's campaign and multiplayer more enjoyable that 4's. It had more variety and scale.

I liked 4's more, but thats not saying much, because it comes right after it on my list.

1. Halo 2

2. Halo 3: ODST

3. Halo 3

4. Halo CE

5. Halo 4

6. Halo Reach

Sliding, clambering, thrusterpacks and ADS does not make a game CoD. People need to STFU and realize that. Actually, I've been waiting for a Halo game that had that stuff since I've held the belief that Spartans should have those abilities.

How about a rebreather so Spartans don't *expletive* drown in two inches of water.
