ugh I really don't want to have to read shite like the ODST novel to get the gist of things

That's what wiki summaries are for.

So am I.  I'm glad they're paying attention to the lore, or I'd worry they'd run roughshod over it.

no danger in running roughshod over the lore when they can throw out the crap that is the Forerunner back story, ancient human empires, and whatnot

Apparently they were highly surprised by the overall negative response to her character.

Oh yes, which is why we've seen a rather large drop off of her appearances and prominence, as well as a couple issues in the comics where she is brutally brought down to size.

343 more or less admitted that they were surprised at her reception, and, despite a lot of the vitriol, stated that they were willing to acknowledge many points against her character.

That's probably some of the best writing to come out of them. Most fans absolutely loved the Forerunner story.

The problems these days are the Travissty trilogy (aka, forget everything about the universe to constantly bash Halsey for being the most despicable being in history, worse than even the Flood which I **** you not is outright stated by one of the characters), and the general decline in objective quality of the writing of the novels. They're just badly written, flat, with horrible dialogue, poor spacing, and read more like a middle-schooler wrote them. 'Saint's Testimony' was a relative refreshment, simply because Frankie wrote it.

I can't wait for Last Light, since it's written by Troy Denning.

Did you actually read it?

It's not a bad story overall, it's just badly written. Like, the physical writing itself is atrocious. There were some parts that I found to be rather idiotic, but no moments were deal breakers, even if they completely took Rookie out like a chump.

Yet Palmer doesn't develop as a character or face any consequences for her actions.

I got as far as the second book in Traviss' trilogy.  I can't believe she's been able to make a living as a professional author.  I didn't think her Star Wars work was as bad as some people did (Except for her Mandalorian obsession and weird ideas about the Jedi), but really: lore inconsistencies, character bashing... it read like bad fanfiction.

Yeah, I've only read a summary, but it was the way the Rookie died (And Mickey's character assassination) that put me off reading the book.

there hasn't been a Halo book I liked since Ghosts of Onyx

ok that's not entirely accurate, there's been a few I enjoyed, but none that I've thought "that was a great addition to the Halo universe)

So apparently Halo 5 is rated "T" for Teen.

And apparently, it's not due to the content in the game so much as it is changing standards of the industry.

Granted, I think Halo needs to step up on the gore and graphics department.

In all honesty, Halo games never really felt like they deserved an M rating, they were pretty tame.

I disagree, especially with the original trilogy.

However, I think this is more about standards being 'laxed' in the ESRB end than on the Microsoft end. You basically have to have tremendously gratuitous language, explicit adult scenes, dark tone or adult themes, or extreme gore and violence to get an 'M' rating these days, Halo only really ever having had the last two.

And Halo has never gotten particularly 'more' violent as the series has gone on. H4 wasn't, but that was more about technical limitations. It's something I've noticed about Halo's aesthetic since 343 took over: it's not as... gritty or subdued, the visual style of the game. It's a bit more comic-book-y as well in many ways. Granted, I think it wouldn't hurt to up the level of violence and gore in the games.

Been kinda indifferent to the game itself, won't be able to play it anyway, but goddamn am I glad to hear the old Gregorian chant. Still miss Marty but it's good to hear the soundtrack going back to its roots because it's always been the strongest part of these games.

Meh. As long as it's fun I don't mind. Better not end up like Destiny though. Why I still play that godforsaken mess is beyond me.

But it would be awesome if we got an effect like on Star Wars Republic Commando where if you meleed an enemy with the knife you got blood all over your visor.

I'd love that. Or close range kills with certain weapons.

Destiny has very great gunplay, a very good feel and a few other things and has kept me hooked. However, there is plenty of bad things about Destiny as well. Yes, I'm a proud Destiny fan. But I'm not blind either and TTK will either make or break the game for me.

Regardless, there's Halo 5. I won't be playing much Destiny then.

I haven't touched the game all month so far. Except to buy SUROS.

Progress?

It's also odd when Ghorn is trending in facebook because Xur is selling it.

Everyone is either creaming themselves or complaining. Me? It's going to get nerfed so I could care less.

I'd rather use a different exotic to be honest.

Halo 5 however... awaits!
