I mean, I know she kinda got spoonfed to us ( ME1 she helps Shepard decode the Prothean thing. ME3 she pops up A LOT )

but that doesn't make her a bad character.

I found her to be interesting- especially her evolution from a scared scientist to a strong, resourceful individual.

I don't, but she comes across as a Dorothy from Kansas type of character; not exactly my top choice for a Companion.

Still, that's no reason to hate the character, but rather the writers.

And the Capsule scene was one of the most beautiful in the series.

And her farewell.

:(

What? there are people who hate Liara? Well, I´m not one of them. :D

She´s almost always the LI for my Shep and I like her for the reason you mentioned above. I think she has a very interesting personality.

It's only a vocal minority who hates her. Liara is actually the most popular squad member, very closely followed by Garrus.

I'd say she's overrated but I still like her character development and find her interesting and fun.

I grew to love/hate her because she never seemed consistent. Her character completely changes with each game, she even seemed to change a bit between ME2's main story and the Shadow Broker DLC. I liked all the Liara's, as their own characters... But I missed the first one and it was irritating having to meet strangers with her name, voice, and face.

One thing that I personally dislike is how unfitting her charater development across the first two games are. I mean, if you pick the other squadmates they are all reasonable. Garrus becoming a vigilante? Why of course, he talked about making the law by his own hands everytime. Tali going back to the migrant fleet, obviously. Wrex trying to restore the Krogan? Again something he talked about and his reaction when you do his quest is telling.

And then there is Liara, a naive archeologist that suddenly becomes a top tier information broker and soon after the most important one in the whole galaxy. It makes no sense, I'll won't say Liara is just a plot device because I do believe she has her moments but she does exist in fuction of what the writers need.

Basically this. There's a very vocal minority that is, well... very vocal about their feelings about Liara. In general, she is liked as a character and a LI, so I wouldn't fret too much about the naysayers.

Doesn't she become a Broker just to save Feron and give the Shadow Broker payback?

One of the best displays of her development was the way she was introduced in each game.

ME1: Completely helpless and needs shepard to save her.

ME2: Threatens to flay someone alive with her mind.

ME3: Ejects two trained soldiers's brains out of the back of their heads.

Funny, I thought she was at her best in the third game. A perfect balance of ruthless and caring.

Different strokes and all that, I guess.

The Liara in ME1 could not remain the same.

The Galaxy was going to burst, there was no time for shy Asari.

Look at Tali. She freaking stabs Legion.

Some people cant stand it when a character they dont like happens to be a main character in the story. Which makes me wonder why they like the story..
Anyway i find it interesting that, using the logic on here, when someone is a main character or has a important role in a story, its not really a main character. Its apparently writers showing favoritism...to their own creations....
If you dont like Liara okay i get it, but she was written as a main character from the beginning, i wouldnt call that favoritism, i call that simply what it is... a main character in a story..

While I was never a fan of her completely out-of-character turn in ME2, she's actually one of the most used squadmates. She's definitely the most romanced love interest. Like many things on the BSN, people are very vocal about their feelings of dislike for her. However it doesn't necessarily represent the community as a whole.

Female love interests were always more polarizing...but as others here have already mentioned, the loudest group is not always the largest ;)
She's actually a very popular character, just look at the various polls or Bioware's infographic.

I didn't hate Liara at all.  Whether or not she was romanced.  In ME1 she was fine, but didn't buy the Shadow Broker business though.  It didn't gel for me.  I know it was explained in-game, but it still didn't click.

Pretty much this. Some players freak out when they think the writers favor a particular character.

At least there was Javik, who humiliate her and the Asary at every turn.

How can anyone hate Liara when Ashley and Miranda are readily available to absolutely loathe?

Liara is okay. She's a bit whiny and I hate the way she keeps mothering the crap out of my character, but she's alright. I think she's #12 on the list of my top ME-ME3 characters.

How popular of a LI would she be is she was only available to femshep?

How popular of a squadmate would she be in ME3 if she was only available for the second half of the game like Ashley/Kaidan and Tali?

In ME1 she's just dull and feels out of place.

In ME2 and ME3 her characterization is all over the place and she is forced on Shepard more than once (Garrus is also guilty of this, to be honest).

She's also the only squadmate from the first two games who can't die until the very end of ME3.

Ultimately, is all about different strokes for different people. I don't hate her, but I don't particularly like her either.
