Slightly related: What if she didn't have to picked three times during the game. It would certainly go down, but by how much?
Didn't help Jacob in ME2, along with his constant presence in the comm room following missions.

Honestly, class is irrelevant in ME3. Anything can combo with anyone.
Well, the only power that Liara has that can combo with anyone is Warp, due to it's direct damaging dealing properties, but I usually find it faster to detonate combos on my own, due to the squadmates unnecessarily long cooldowns. Since I usually just play Soldier now, I just abuse Vega's, Ashley's and my own grenades, alongside Ashley and I's Concussive Shots, to get continuous Fire/Tech/Cryo Explosions.
It's quite funny how a Soldier in ME3 has pretty much become an Engineer-lite due to the combo system.
How popular of a LI would she be is she was only available to femshep?
How popular of a squadmate would she be in ME3 if she was only available for the second half of the game like Ashley/Kaidan and Tali?

She would still be pretty popular? http://social.biowar...362/polls/3023/
What does this have to do with anything. Liara's romance is locked mid-game, just like the other romances in ME3. And Ashley/Kaidan had more content than Liara in ME1. Didn't help them either (at least Kaidan).

Can't Liara's Singularity/Stasis do combos too? With squadmates as well?
Speaking of recharge times, I know one of the reasons Liara is one of my most used squadmates in ME3 is how fast her Warp recharges. I rarely find myself waiting for her to recharge a power. Using her with my vanguard = total carnage

Finally, a poll that acknowledges player gender. I find it bothersome when people say Liara or whoever is straight up the most popular LI, without taking into account that it's actually different between the sexes.
Funny to see that both genders can agree on Jacob's romance royally sucking ![]()
Again, how popular would she of been if only available for only one gender? And how popular would she of been if only available for half the game as a squadmate?
As Livi said, the poll shows she'd still be pretty popular. But really, there is no data anywhere that can sufficiently supply the calculations needed to legitimately answer your question. While this poll certainly doesn't have the ideal sample size, given its under 2500, still, I admit it's quite impressive that there were more female poll takers who preferred Liara over Kaidan, and everyone else who isn't Garrus. And of course, alot of male players are quite taken with her alone.

She still has an advantage over the others by being available to both genders.
That poll doesn't include Ashley, Miranda, Tali and Jack.
I don't hate her. I just find her voice and vocal inflection annoying sometimes.

The point I believe Livi was trying to make with that poll is Liara's relative popularity with Femshep, and/or female players because Liara's general popularity with MaleShep (mostly played by male players) is already indisputable.

The poll is crap. If you're going to have a poll like that include all love interests in that poll, not just a selected few. Of course ME3 LI's wouldn't be included since that poll was made before ME3 was released.

The poll creator wanted to find out the most popular LI's for FemShep.
Since Samantha is a side character romance like Kelly, I doubt her presence would've dramatically shifted these proportions.
You are very passionate about this topic and are extremely unsatisfied with all of the surveys that have been presented in this thread, so you might want to consider running your own research to answer your own hypothetical questions.

Why mention Samantha? The poll was made before the character was ever known. I don't consider her a side character romance like Kelly's. Have you romanced her?

If she was heterosexual only? Pretty popular.
But such a question doesn't really make sense, as all asari are bisexual. If she was hetero she wouldn't be an asari, no? So we're delving too deep into '' what if ''.

Yes these are "what ifs", but still gives her the adavantage of being available for both genders.

I mentioned Samantha because you seemed angry that the poll didn't include ME3 romances.

That's an assumption on your part. I made a point that no ME3 romances were mentioned since the poll was done long before ME3 released. That hardly qualifies me to be angry.

Then why is the poll crap. If Sam isn't of concern, then the poll did its job with the available sample group. It tested FemShep's LI's, hence no Ash/Miri/Jack.
If Liara was only available to MaleShep, it's not like she would not be popular. I believe it's safe to assume that most Liaramancers are straight males who have played MaleShep who romanced Liara, atleast once.
If Liara was only available to FemShep, the survey Livi posted suggests she would still do fairly well. The only thing in Liara's way of being a more popular FemShep LI is Garrus.

Give me a poll with a million people voting and I might be convinced. And since that poll was taken over 4 years ago, some folks may of changed their mind.
It isn't unfair simply because you don't like Kaidan. He is a companion, a LI and is a part of the ME universe. It is an equal representation.
I never said i dont like Kaidan, i was saying his personality is extremely reserved, so obviously hes not going to be very dramatic in dialogue. That should be expected after talking to him a few times. People are awfully quick to assume everybody has to hate someone in Mass Effect.
Had to edit that.
Not really. Liara is great squad member for pretty much any Shepard. To soldiers and infiltrators, she provides CC, as well as can detonate infiltrator's Incinerate. Vanguards appreciate her CC(well, pretty much any class appreciates that) and can also detonate her Singularity and Warp. Engineers and sentinels, CC again and some nice combos.
If anything, I'd say adepts need her the least, since they are themselves superb controllers, but of course, they still profit from comboing with her.
She also combines great with pretty much any squadmate you take, since Warp detonates just about anything. She really is one of the most all around useful squadmates.

Actually, I'd say asari are pansexual.
Just a minor pet peeve, nothing more.

I just want the record to show that I think she's the best character of the trilogy, no matter what and that I'll always think that and I'll always grab any chance to point at polls who show she's one of the most popular characters, no matter what
I'll just have to respectively agree to disagree with you on that accord. When I asked my friend today if content was the only reason she liked Liara more, she replied "Kinda, and because she is the only lesbian romance option." She doesn't consider Kelly or Sam as a relationship option. When I asked her if she felt that the game implied Liara was suppose to be with Shep by default, her answer was "most certainly". Now, of course my friend's thoughts aren't the thoughts of everyone by any means. It is just her opinion. However, it does make me think polls are not to be used as an indication of anything. There are too many variables and unless the poll can explain why they chose her, some points of the opposition can remain. You like her and that is all that matters. Some dislike her, and that's okay too.
I've seen that article, it honestly doesn't say anything that hasn't been mentioned before. I'd say one of the big cases comes in the massive Genesis comic shilling.
Oh god, I forgot about the Genesis comic. Man, that was bad. It was heavily implied that she was a favored LI in that. Paraphrased of course, but Kaidan and Ashley were "hell of a soldier" or something along those lines, while Liara was talented as she was beautiful! , or something. lol Too funny.

If you didn't want people to make assumptions about your feelings, perhaps you should have used the terminology you used in your reply. I never used the word "hate", but it is easily to presume you dislike him when comparing him to a NPC door guard and a Vulcan.
Personally, I found it odd that most of the romantic dialog shared with Kaidan was him discussing a woman he used to love. I would guess that'd be more off-putting than anything. It certainly made me roll my eyes on more than one occasion.
Yes these are "what ifs", but still gives her the adavantage of being available for both genders.
So is Samara.
I am fairly sure there are more Tali romances out there.
