And the Asari are special where they can do no wrong

Completely true.

They don't show up to the summit. Don't worry, they're special. That's ok

No it's not ok and Shepard says so.

They withhold information about a beacon on their planet. Don't worry, they're special. That's ok

No it's not ok and Shepard says so.

I can yell at Joker for making a joke, but I can't yell at Liara for yelling at Javik for no reason. Don't worry, she's part of the special. That's ok

Yeah, that stuff is completely on the same level. (insert massive sarcarm banner)

I have to say sorry to the Councilor. Don't worry, she's part of the special. That's ok

You don't have to, she doesn't ask for it. That you do it is nothing more than courteous.

The problem here is Liara, obviously. And the horrible things she says on Thessia. The fact that Shepard just goes around the galaxy saying stuff like:

"Hello. Your world is burning. Give me your fleet and your troops to save my world, stop trying to save your own".

That is totally ok.

There's nothing courteous about saying sorry to the councilor when it should be her saying sorry. But again they're special

Its ok for the Asari to withhold information about the beacon

If you really hate the Asari so much, you can scold them for it when they tell you about the Beacon. You're acting like you can't, at all.

Saying sorry to the councilor is not courteous. Asari High Command screwed the galaxy by not sharing that "racial secret" and, well, the only justification is, well "all races have secrets." You can only scold Tevos/Irissa, and then have to mope about how horrible it is that Thessia is gone, and how it's all Shepard's fault. It's not. Not even close.

I wanted to chew out Tevos. I wanted to tell Liara to suck it up (we can sort of do this in the shuttle on the way down). For the record, I'm not a fan of Shepard's autodialogue terracentrism, either, in any form. If anything, (s)he should have been rallying support directly for the Crucible project. Earth will simply have to hold out on its own.

But I don't. How did you even come to this conclusion?

I merely mentioned this because you guys can't stop whining about Liara, the things she says about Thessia and saying the Alliance should've helped out, while in the mean time Shepard asks the entire galaxy to leave their homeworlds behind and help Earth.

Hypocrisy at it's finest.

But please, go on, amuse me some more.

You could start by not putting words in my mouth. We never said the Alliance 'should' help Thessia, we complained that Liara's making tasteless and immature statements, and that Shepard is "supposed" to be all horribly sad and apologetic, blaming him/herself after Thessia.

it fits with the whole "Asari are special and amazing" vibe the game tried to shovel down our throat. I'd say they do the same thing with the krogan, too.

You could start by reading properly before saying I put words in your mouth.

And there's lots of special species in the galaxy, aren't there? Humans are special, the Asari and now the Krogan too. Oh my god.

I have read properly. You're just spinning stories out of half-truths.

There's no point to the second part of your comment. Someone else claimed Humanity was Superior. I only said the asari and krogan were shoveled onto us as "special", that what happens to them is worse somehow than what happens to everyone else.

The only race that's "special" in the ME universe is humanity. A whole race of Mary Sues, happens sometimes inevitably in Sci-fi and fantasy when humans write it, and it's a very old and cliched plot device. The asari, the krogan, the turians, the salarians and all other races have their niches and they fill them well. But they also have their bad sides and weaknesses.

And a renegade interrupt where Shepard chastises Liara for "crying" about Thessia would be stupid. Not unless the response was to have Liara then point out what a giant hypocrite Shepard is.

I suppose it's worth noting that Liara laments the loss of each world as the game progresses, and after expressing her sympathies to Shepard in the beginning, tries to do the same for Garrus. Of course, she mostly distressed about Thessia, but I don't think it's terribly unrealistic that she would be.

Guess it does make sense when you put it like this. Still pretty damn annoying when you think about it.

But yeah, Mary Sue is actually a pretty damn good way to describe humanity in ME.

Something people are very keen on forgetting.

I liked Liara.  Until she became diet Shadow Broker.  Contrived and it didn't work for me.

Exact opposite for me. I wasn't a big fan of Liara in Mass Effect 1 and only romanced her because Kaiden's personality was not very interesting. But she became my favorite character in LotSb and Mass Effect 3 :)

That's only half of it. Who says Shepard has to be a hypocrite? I'd have liked the option for Shepard to not be particularly fixated on Earth - let's face it; Spacer and Colonist Shep have no basis for attachment and Earthborn Shep signed up specifically to get out of there. I don't like that terracentric "abandon your burning homeworld to save mine!" autodialogue any more than you do. I'd rather he exhort them to throw in on the Crucible project (since that's the only card we're given to play).

A.) We relate to humans in fantasy for a very obvious reason: We are humans

B.) No, they're not. Shepard seems Mary Sue by virtue of being the player character, but the rest of humanity is massively flawed.

C.) How is criticizing Liara hypocritical of Shepard?

I dislike both the constant talk about retaking Earth and Shepard's apology to the Asari councilor. Can I get a hug?

Imported one of my saves where i had romanced miranda, never noticed before liara saying after horizon "hows miranda" then " thats good, you 2 will make a great couple"

She actually got somein nice to say no matter who you romance tbh, weird i always took her to be a good friend if no romanced, someone who be a bit socially awkward but puts a great amount of feels into her friendships.

You cannae blame a character for dialogue tbh, that goes to the devs/writers an there sure be alot of cringe worthy material in me3 tbh an no just involving her, worst one for me be on thessia an my shepards running around shouting "we get this damn artefact an we end this war" an im like ohhh ok so when in hell did we actually find out what this thing was.

Meh i start picking holes in this game i never stop an end up hating it, as it stands i can jump in an enjoy it, but there a hell lot bigger problems in it than any one character thats for sure, an no i dont mean the ending

Honestly, I've always had little care for the Asari. They're a 1 dimensional race introduced only for sexuality. Oooh! Space lezzies! Meh...

Doesn't mean I hate all of them. Liara in ME up until talking about the Broker in ME2, Capt. Enyala, Morrinth, Shiala, and Nassana were interesting characters. Samara loses points for the stupid open chest armor.

Really? She actually says something like that? Never romanced anybdy other than her, so I have yet to see that.

But it's a nice touch :)

Anybody who fails to see more than a race of space stripper bimbos in asari is either blind or willfully igorant.
