Bioware shouldn't need to hold your hand in guiding you how you must perceive these races and showing you that those kind of stereotypes are ultimately unfair/bigoted/short-sighted. You should really be able to just look at the big picture for yourself.
I can. And a lot of it is through characters in the game. With the Quarians for example, Tali is the best advocate their race could ever have. The work on the character is worth a million words in a text talking about the race. So even if I look to their decisions in ME2 and ME3 and believe they were wrong and every turn, I can look to Tali and know they are better than that because she is very connected to the Quarians. She is part of their world.
With the Asari I don't have that. All I see is what Javik sees, a failure of a race.

Javik sees what his race used to consider primitives. How are the Asari a failure? Where in the game is it suggested that they failed to contribute anything to the galactic community's prosperity and survival, and offer nothing as a cultured civilization, in any way less than the other Council Races?
If they are such a failure, how did they produce the "one or two Asari that are worth anything" to you, the way the quarians produced their one single savior, Tali?
Interesting you would refer to a Prothean's opinion of asari. I would be quicker to see the Protheans as more of a failure than the Asari, because it is their totalitarian culture that lead to their cycle's swift downfall (their ruthless empire homogenized every life form, thereby giving them zero ways to outmaneuver the Reapers' countermeasures to Prothean defenses).
The drell are also a better example of a failure. They couldn't even sustain life on their own planet, and would be extinct if it weren't for the hanar. They needed glowing jellyfish to uplift them.
If I had to pick one of the Council races to have the most cultural similarities with humanity, it'd be the Asari. Their culture is as diverse and 3-dimensional as ours. While the turians are mostly about their military and civic duty, the salarians mostly about science/technology, the krogan about brutality/bloodshed, the quarians about salvaging/engineering, the hanar about religion and poetry lol, the Asari are the one Council race that I can easily imagine having many brilliant scientists, commandos, politicians, while having just as many artists, entrepreneurs, social workers, etc, the way humanity does. Because of that diversity, I find both humans and asari dynamic, accomplished, and resourceful. I personally don't see the word "failure" anywhere.

lol potential to what, beat the reapers like the protheans did? oh wait, they didn't... ![]()

The Protheans were sabotaged from within. Had that not happened, its possible the Crucible may of been used.

Why did they not take the necessary measures to fully prevent sabotage/indoctrination within their population? If an arrogant survivor from the previous cycle saw that happen to the Protheans, they'd probably roll their eyes too and call the Protheans incompetent and a disappointment, as well.
Regardless of what happened to the Protheans, I'm not admonishing them, I don't actually consider Protheans or drell failures, that's a crappy thing to say about civilizations.
Me calling the Protheans a failure is a straw argument. People are people, sh*t happens. While the Asari made the awful mistake of keeping the Prothy tech to themselves, what matters is that they did ultimately do something about it, and that lead to Shepard storming Cerberus, and the rest is history, the Reapers were beat. Aside from common sense, it's because of that victory that I don't think it's fair to call any of the races who participated in the war as failures.

Had that beacon been revealed earlier a lot of lives may of been saved.

Of course, there is no denying that. Is there an argument you're trying to make out of this?
Interesting the other guy considers Asari utter failures, when we can just look at humanity, and ask, "Really, why did it take so long to notice the Crucible project?" It took a young asari Prothean expert to find it for us. As ridiculous as that is, that doesn't qualify us as "failures". We got sh*t done. the galaxy won the war.

It just shows the Asari didn't care about the other species at all

How many humans understood the Prothean language? And why didn't Liara forward the plans to Hackett when she found them?
Is butthurt your usual reaction to hearing things you don't like? Because it certainly seems like it.

This post, yes.

If the Asari are as selfish as you claim them to be, I don't see why they bother to serve as mediators of the Council, or stopped the turians from obliterating humanity.
Just because one country guards their most valuable technological secrets from other countries, that doesn't make them isolationist and apathetic towards others.
Well darn the humans, of course they don't understand Prothean, They're so incompetent they only discovered spaceflight a few decades ago, anyway. But Shepard is human so I guess we shouldn't make fun of humans that much.
Hackett ordered Shepard to investigate because Mars archive was no responding. Cerberus was kind of taking over. Unless you think she should've been transferring data to the Alliance while Cerberus troops are shooting at her head.

Oh gee I dunno, I guess that loophole was Bioware's plan to suggest that all Asari, especially Liara, are the most dumb and selfish bimbos.
edit: where in the game does it suggest that Liara found the plans prior to the Cerberus attack? Hackett ordered Liara to Mars, are you now suggesting she was totally gonna keep it to herself and defy his orders? You're trying too hard with this.
In all seriousness, how do you expect me to answer that? I made my point about the Asari not being "failures". I'm not hot about entertaining your passionate Liara hate.

So why would you say Cerberus was kinda of taking over when they weren't? And even if they were, she still would've been able to send the plans to Hackett. Why would she leave the archives and end up where we first meet her? We see the Alliance fighting Cerberus on the Tram, which means Cerberus was not inside the archives at that point. She would've had plenty of time to send the information to Hackett before they gained access to the archives

Words cannot express how much I don't care, but to answer your first question, I said Cerberus was taking over because Hackett could not get into contact with Mars (therefore Liara). Bioware clearly wanted you to be there when Liara proposes the Crucible to the Council, instead of leaving that to Hackett.

Beating the dead asari still?

If Hackett wasn't able to get into contact with T'soni, how was he able to tell us she may of found a way to stop the reapers?
She forward the plans already to Hackett when talking with him after Mars. And obviously had a copy on her omni-tool to show the council. So, why didn't she forward them to Hackett when she first found them and keep a copy on her omni-tool?

Uh I dunno.
maybe you should just play the game again.
"Hackett, I may have found something that could give us an edge over the Reapers, but I want to examine it further before sending it over."

The bolded part
When Hackett tells us that T'soni may of found a way to stop the reapers. That's when. And if Cerberus was attacking at that time, why wouldn't she tell him that Cerberus was attacking or why wouldn't Hackett of mentioned it before going to Mars?
I didn't know Hackett ordered T'soni to Mars. I was under the impression she found something that led her to Mars and he gave her access to the archives.

when you launch an attack, dont you think one of the first things you do is disrupt comms? even the reapers know that.
my wording was wrong, hackett asked liara to do what she can, hence mars/access to archives.
so basically you're asking why liara couldn't get the project to hackett, or inform him of a cerberus attack.
logical deduction tells me that she was unable to do so. why? considering shepard found liara in the middle of a fight with cerberus troops, logic tells me quite possibly the process was interrupted by the attack. what's the big deal..?
Putting aside the fact that Liara is not under any obligation to assist Hackett anyway...
Cerberus had plenty of opportunity to attack the Martian archives even before Luna base went dark. The Alliance was already battling the reapers in the Arcturus Stream, since that station was under attack well before Sol was invaded. If Mars fell out of contact even before Shepard went before the Defense Council, there's not much that could be done about it, because attention was squarely on the massive invasion force surging through the relays.

So your saying T'soni found the plans right at the very moment when Cerberus attacked? I doubt that.
I would say she never actually found the plans to the Crucible till we got in the archives. She just found clues leading to the archives where the plans could be found.
