Why do people hate Liara?

Singling out Liara is simply hypocritical.

Yeah, I noticed that too. If I'm serious about RP I either don't inspect the dossiers or limit it to the ones that particular Shepard would be less likely to trust (ex: fanatically anti-Cerberus FemShep looks up Miranda and Jacob). To be fair all the character dossiers and surveillance camera vids in the DLC were inherited from Liara's predecessor. Shepard is browsing through stuff the Yahg left behind, rather than information gathered or stolen by Liara.
Allowing Shepard to snoop on the private details of his companions is unethical though. That being said, unless Shepard refused to take a look he or she is just as guilty.
Does the dialogue with Aethyta about having seen the footage of the picture frame only come up if you actually look at that footage, or does it gauge solely from having completed the DLC?

The dossiers which can be accessed aboard the SB ship were collected by the yagh, but that has nothing to do with Shepards love interest. All characters know whether or not Shepard is faithful. If you go in the shower with Traynor, Garrus knows immediately. If you romanced Miranda in ME2, Ashley knows....Singling out Liara is simply hypocritical.
In all fairness, she's more likely than the rest to be seen as spying on others when she's the fuggin' shadow broker and she goes around telling people like Jack things that they don't even know about themselves just to throw them off-balance and get the upper hand in an argument. Never mind that Shepard can call her out for doing it as far back as ME1 (which is also the last time you can, and IMO unreasonable of Shepard in that particular instance given that the personal history she digs up is public record).

When and if I do the broker dlc, I don't invite T'soni up to the ship and I ignore the dossiers.

I'm shocked. I'd think you would want more time with Liara.

I invited her once. I regretted doing that. Of course I had no idea I would be getting the lame story about my dogtags, the "I've got/have you" dialogue and another what-the-crap hug. And since my femshep is a ruthless b*t*h, she wanted to throw T'soni out the airlock. So I just don't invite her up anymore

Dunno...I simply loved Liara. Guess the fact that she was Mac Walters favorite pet kind of helped....lucky me I like her.
To be fair though I would be pretty annoyed if I liked a companion from ME2....thanks God I disliked them all (except Garrus and Tali of course)
Mac Walters only written her in the comics not the games, ME1 she was written by Drew Karpyshyn in ME2/LOTSB she was written by Patrick Weeks and ME3 she was written by Sylva.

Yes...Liara was clearly able to place surveillance devices on the Normandy without EDI's or Cerberus' knowledge, and without even setting a foot on the Normandy SR2 to spy on Shepard. But the fact that everyone else also knows immediately when you cheat (for example if you romance Traynor in ME3)...no problem at all. I believe the term is "double standards".
She knows it before she becomes the Shadow Broker. She had to get it somehow. As was mentioned, she does know it on Illium.
Face it, she's super-stalking him, probably has video of him in the shower and everywhere else. Just accept it, and move on.

Ashley has six months after knowing Shepard is alive to look into him before she confronts him about it. Garrus and Traynor are on the same ship serving with the same crew. People talk, and, if all else fails, EDI knows and sees everything that happens, and would tell the other.
Liara knows this somehow without Shepard even dropping by (because you can go on the Shadow Broker mission when you meet her), and without any prior knowledge of Shepard being awake.
Stal-ker.

Threads like this always make me like Liara even more ![]()
To answer the original question, as it was shown only a few people hate Liara. She's actually a very popular character and in my opinion one of the best LI's BW ever did. But I can understand that some fans are disappointed because their favorites didn't get the screen time they deserved.

Why is that always the go-to crazy argument for Liaramancers? There's a real topic of discussion. Why it is always "Their LI of choice didn't get the screen time"
It can't just be that Liara is a crappily-written character?

Beats me. Garrus arguably got more lines than Liara and was available as a squadmate early in all 3 games. Garrus is my LI of choice, I couldn't be more pleased with his romance, and yet Liara remains my most hated fictional character of all time in any medium, bar none (like I'd take this dude over Liara).

Isn't it endearing when a "friend" pries into the expenditures for a classified military project and your personal medical records in one go?
Yeah and it doesn't matter wether or not Liara had Tali's private information from the previous broker, it's just nasty of her throw into the room when their mutual love interest is there. Liara can be a real *****.

I'm amused by that DW guy. It's not like a lot of people complain that their chosen LI didn't get a lot of time when compared to Liara.
It's not like a lot of people who like Liara(myself included) admit they would be very much happy for the fans of other LIs if they(the LIs, not the fans) received as much attention as Liara.
But yeah, it's totally not that. Honestly, some people are trying their damn best to look stupid.

It's not my problem that you can't accept the fact that most fans like Liara and only a minority hates her. Some people admitted that they begun to resent Liara a bit because she got more screen time than their favorite love interest and I can somewhat understand the frustration. I felt the same way in ME2 when my favorite two squadmates were sidelined and my least favorite character (Tali) returned as a permanent squadmate. But the same few haters who are just sprewing hypocritical hyperboles, lies and half-truths about the character and are repeating themselves like a broken record regardless of the facts? Let's just say I'm not surprised BW didn't listen to them.

You seem new around here. You'll get used to it eventually.

Indeed.

Misread. My apologies.
Lets just say I've given up on changing the mind of, well... pretty much anybody. So, I just settle for trolling people like Mike, DW and Neria and take perverse pleasure when I imagine them in my mind eye how they froth at the mouth when they see pictures you quote.
I'm vaguely sorry to do the same to you, since you seem halfway decent, but there you go. I never claimed the same of myself ![]()

I don't complain my LI doesn't get a lot of screen time as others. I like for her to, but I don't worry about it.

Oh, I'm not offended, I just didn't really see the point, as it just fuels animosity towards her character :/

Eh, scrolling past them is easy enough. I do laugh at the people who get their rocks off on those kinds of pictures, though.
Know what I do find fascinating? I recall in some other recent Liara thread that you stated you remembered me as one of the more vocal Liara haters. While I am flattered I have made such an impression, I honestly have no memory of you from the two previous incarnations of the BSN forums. Try harder

Yeah, like that could be done. With people around here, vocally proclaiming their undying hate for Liara...
Were there some neutrals in here, I might have felt bad. As it is, everybody made their choice, one way or another. I don't feel bad in the slightest.

It seems to be so. After all, it's not like you completely misread everything that was said. Do yourself a favor and do that. You might find out that the argument was not "There are no people that dislike Liara because they wanted their own LI to get more screen time" but "Liaramancers seems to think that's the only reason to hate Liara is that other LIs didn't get screentime."
I don't expect much, but I thought I'd be polite.
Feel free to imagine whatever you wish. This is an internet board, much can be done from the safety behind a computer screen.
