Generally I don't like to be shield boosted cause it can lock me up thus causing death. What I prefer and suggest is that you, cloak, fire proxy mine at the enemies feet and re-cloak. Save shield boost for near death.

Or escort missions across areas with no cover, shield boost is a life saver at those times.

Devices also, let someone else start the device and help them out.

Spamming shield boost is a way of trolling, because you inevitably will trigger the glitch. I know I keep my distance from Volus that do it.

I played a lot with volus and never had this glitch... till yesterday with my first Tsol raider run. It s quite annoying but not that much.

I got locked 8 times in match the other day as my Asari Justicar on Giant/Reaper/Platinum. I knew it happened when my Acolyte fired without my consent.

That doesn't seem entirely fair. The glitch doesn't seem to happen often enough to justify actually avoiding being near a volus (especially if you know that a HM will get you out of it), and as other posters have mentioned, getting a shield boost at the right moment can be a life saver especially in one of those brutal center hacks or escorts straight through the middle of a map.

I'm talking about spamming, not about deliberate use (where it still happens). Yes the HM gets rid of it, but if you're just engaging the enemy odds are good you'll be down before you can get rid of it. It's even worse when you move to engage and just realize in front of the enemy that you have been locked out. I tend to rely on my powers (and guns).

Wow, 8 times...you are really unlucky. :D

I am unlucky if I get locked twice in match.

It´s indeed unfortunate and it can be messy when you try to break off and find safe moment to heavy melee. It´s not game breaking gitch, but it´s good to be aware of it if you are going to play volus. Also I am afraid that vast majority of players don´t know about the HM trick. They probably don´t even know it´s shield boost that is doing it.

I would use the shield boost if:

a, allies have DoT effect (atlas missile, banshee warp)

b, allies under fire from long range arty (ravagers, scions, prime SP, nemesis)

c, prime pet attaks (drone, turret)

d, clear indication of lost shields (shields down, my soup, etc)

e, after revive.

Otherwise it is more of a hinderance than a help, especially for good players.

I've heard taking hard cover, then rolling to an adjacent hard cover, will sort it out, but I haven't tested that.

That rings a bell. I was sure I had seen a fix somewhere but then I couldn't find it again.

Wait, if this person is on X-Box, feel free to add me (same name), as I play with just starting Gold players all the time (heck, even just started playing ME3... heck, even just started playing videogames in general, maybe?). So yeah, I'll help you out and can even match you manifest if you want. Since not extracting is never as important as having fun to me. But if it is to you, I can always bring grenade capacity for emergency use, if you want?

I also don't need to chat either. Just gaming without a word being exchanged works for me best.

If on PS3... er, sure. I'll grab that blocky things called a gamepad just for you. ;)

I usually HM anytime I get shield boosted anyways, just to make sure I'm not locked out. But honestly, I could probably count on one hand the number of times I've had this glitch in 1000 hours of playing.

Back to the topic, IMO the most important skill in gold is staying alive. If OP has all or most gels left when extracting silver most of the time, go to gold. If you die a lot, stay in silver until you can stay alive.

Yesterday I was rocking a claymore and proceeded to get shield-locked six times in one game.

I don't doubt that it can happen, but that's definitely a rather extreme exception rather than the rule.

Nonetheless, when I have a volus just running around behind me and hitting me with shield boost constantly it irritates me considerably. Even moreso because it seems like they can't do it properly; If you're going to be playing as medic, at least keep your cloak running most of the time so I don't have to revive you constantly.  And then, when I take a few more risks because you're boosting me, you disappear, leading me to actually die more often.

When you get to the end of the match and they have 20000 points and I have 15 revives, you know something is wrong. And that happens irritatingly often.

When I play my Jugg with Jugg Sheild III, I don't really get why Volus players are following and randomly shield boosting me (and I don't think they are trying cause a lock since he was by far the most team oriented player in the game) when other players need it more. Not that the support isn't appreciated, mind you.

That's very true. Good players always play as aggressively as they can while managing their shield gates. Shield Boosting can allow you to be more aggressive, but the problem is that it's not something you can ever depend on.

This pretty much...i've gotten locked up a couple of times, but when i did i quickly HM to get out it, and it even tho i did get locked, the shield boost was more of a benefit than a hinderance. As stated above, it comes in handy when your teammates are laying into a boss that unloads hard-hitting weapons on you...pulse cannons from Primes, Scions, and Atlas's can put you in the red quick, so that shield boost, even with the locking glitch overall is beneficial.
