"Here lies the Inquisitor who died because a demon grabbed their long, luxurious cape"
Love that gif but capes played an essential role in old school RPG

Capes, I miss them.
If I could like this topic more than once I would. I miss capes too. Please Bioware, put some in the game. They'd go great with 'dat hat'.

I assume the reason we haven't seen capes is the same as to why long flowing hair is rare. It would probably be a nightmare to animate properly and have not cause problems in cut scenes while having very little value for actual game play. I might be wrong, don't get me wrong, but I think even in NWN it took a long time for them to get capes in and they still looked really weird.

But they'd be lynched for making an ADnD game w/o capes.

We may have hope

With the new Customization system im sure capes had to be on their mind, hopefully with interchangeable symbols that can be placed on them

Destiny will be your huckleberry I reckon. Capes, Hip sash and Duster coats for the Hunter, Titan and Warlock respectively.

Yeah, I love capes. Love them. Particularly for... Well, every class. Don't care if the enemy can grab them and fling you around (Zod tried with Superman in Man of Steel, and we know how that worked out). Don't care if the enemy tries to choke you with it (attempted a few times in the old Batman: TAS, and we know how all of those situations worked out). They look cool and they're an extra option for nifty abilities, bonuses, and resistances.

Based on what is required for the environments, I could support seeing cloaks and capes if designed properly, but not if they create more trouble than they are worth.
They will likely create more problems than they are worth, namely clipping of weapons through the cloaks/capes when they are "sheathed" on the back.

Would be a good way to show off cloth physics, assuming they are present now. If not, then it would just be a waste of time. Remember those "magnetic" trenchcoats and dusters from Fallout: New Vegas?

Heh, in Diablo 3, the Demon Hunter's quiver goes right through her cloak.

That's more an argument against detailed 3D animation than it is an argument against capes, I think. They will likely create more problems than they are worth, namely clipping of weapons through the cloaks/capes when they are "sheathed" on the back.

Capes, I miss them.
would be nice (looks fancy, is appropriate for the time period) but:
produces clipping issues, like long hair, long beards etc. ![]()
greetings LAX
ps: Still would love to have them...would like one like that nightelf warden from warcraft (with small blades attache)
...well, one can only dream I guess ![]()

Anyone know what is the purpose of capes ? I mean, it literally has nothing practical in its design, nor is good looking or manly.

Protects from rain and sand, keeps you warm in cold climates, etc.

A lot of things you will see in the game will have no practical use. All the effects, the lighting etc. The argument that "they have no reason to be in the game because they are useless" is very silly. Also, I am for capes, capes are awesome.
P.S. Go back into your hole Edna, I will not hear it.
